Something glam yet warm and with sleeves?

Poppity · 11/12/2009 13:20

We are going to my sisters for a posh Christmas do, and her house is freezing.

I don't want to spend the whole time in my cardi, so have been searching for a warm dress which is still glam/funky. I don't mind it being short, but I would like at least 3/4 sleeves.

I can't wear wool unless it's merino/cashmere (and even then it's a bit dodge).

I need to be able to eat lots in it too!

I'm asking too much......

shiny

Poppity · 11/12/2009 18:56

I love this

AND, she has armwarmers, could I pull that off? Not sure, they'll probably just be v annoying

Besides, Toast is too expensive, need to wait for the sale!

That Calvin Klein one looks snug doesn't it? Bit plain though maybe.

The shirt one I like, and the purple one that's on the same page, nice neck.

Still haven't seen anything that shouts at me though, well not that I can afford anyway!

Edgar, what's squirpy?

Poppity - I linked to something similar to the toast one (but long sleeved) on another thread I think. Will have to search later, but think it was the thread about an elegant warm top...

Is probably not as nice as toast though, sure it was much cheaper as budget on that thread £50

Horton · 11/12/2009 20:10

Heat Tech Uniqlo stuff is miraculous and cheap and wonderful colours. Am constantly cold and it seems to really do the trick without looking like old lady thermals. Sorry no advice about dresses but will be watching with interest.

Horton · 11/12/2009 20:11

Oh, that Toast dress is HEAVEN. I covet Toast constantly and have never yet purchased anything. How do the sizes come up? Small or large?

Poppity · 11/12/2009 21:11

Toast sizes are generally large with the odd exception.

I had been resisting looking as I always ove their stuff, but only ever buy in the sale- they usually have quite good sales.

Really looking forward to my Uniqlo stuff arriving now, I ordered a plain and a stripe polo, and a pair of leggings. I would have liked a scoop neck, but they were only 3/4 sleeve, which I find a bit annoying.

Norks, I think I found that thread, I loved the Fenn Wright Manson dress, but they only have it in a 16.

The M&S one is nice too, I don't know if it's posh enough though? It could be with heels etc, I really like it, might get it anyway actually as it's just the kind of thing I live in with leggings at the moment.

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 21:33

Oh Poppity, I could have told you that the scoop neck sleeves are more like full length on me (though maybe I have freakishly short arms, I don't know, how does one check for this kind of thing?)

Yes, it was the M&S one I was thinking of but it's not very dressy or glam really is it? Sorry, it was a bit more Toast-y in my memory than it is in reality

Shame about the FWM one, hadn't noticed the sizes. It's available in your size in cerise or coral from here but it's £85.

NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 21:37

Also available in black

Poppity · 11/12/2009 21:53

The FWM one looks even nicer on, I really like that. Am going to search for it in brown- full on coral or cerise with my hair is a bit scary!

I like the Vila one in black, this one too, I think they would both look good over purple

There is loads of Odd Molly on that site, I love their stuff, why does it have to be so expensive?

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 22:04

I know, I was drooling through the Odd Molly stuff but none of it was in your budget.

Yes, I almost linked to that second Vila dress too - the Vila stuff is the closest to the All Saints dresses you liked that I have found in budget. Would definitely look good over purple.

Poppity · 11/12/2009 22:09

I just googled Vila and came up with the Republic site. I found this love it or hate it? Would it be too much over a polo neck?

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 22:12

Argh, I've been racking (sp?) my brains to think of what shop would have the right kind of dress and it was Republic I was trying to think of!!

Yes, I think that's nice and would go over a polo neck. Well in my not-so-expert opinion anyway.

Poppity · 11/12/2009 22:37

Yes, there's loads of nice stuff on there, I have ben in the shop the odd time, but it never seemed to be very pram-friendly and I didn't think to look online.

I found this in the sale I'm going to get one of those two I think, although now need a black polo neck......

Thanks for all the help, nice shopping with you!

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 22:40

Excellent

I had enormous fun - it was like shopping for myself but more fun (you're more adventurous than I am!) and it cost me nothing

ChrisMissWooWoo · 12/12/2009 00:09

lovely choice Poppity

would add that scoop neck heat tech's are 3/4 sleeve on me and I'm 5 ft 7 ... but maybe I have freakishly long arms

second the lots of fun and not a penny spent here

Poppity · 12/12/2009 11:56

Yes I am aware of my freakishly long arms, I like to buy my tops from Long Tall Sally for that reason alone!

I going to look and see if I can help someone else spend their money now, I have a cold and need entertaining

squirpy... erm, swirly & quirky. like a lava lamp, or paisley.

mrsruffallo · 12/12/2009 12:11

I like this comfy and stylish?

Poppity · 12/12/2009 13:31

Edgar I like.
