I've found it - the school run dress for autumn winter 09

the holy grail. Perfect for school run then on to lunch with friend?

I've just ordered mine and I intend to wear it over jeans and converse sometimes or with black Hobbs boots with coloured opaque tights.

I suspect it will look okay over turtle neck thin jewel coloured top as well?

Please don't let it be crap as I love everything about it, especially the price.

I do draw the line at safari animal print clothing. I feel I should save some fun for the coming decades.

Am I a little underdressed for the school run then?

Tulpe - That's lovely that people ask you where you are off to at the end of your working day. How nice to always look chic.

Sequins are quite in this year aren't they? I bought a lovely little gold sequin bolero thing from M & Co and wore it out to a lunch with friends (at Prezzo so was probably overdressed) on Sunday over a purpple long sleeve top, jeans and Converse. NO less than 3 people (only one in my party) asked me where it was from.

wont you be cold?
where some woolies

Swedes2Turnips0 · 03/11/2009 22:43

the gold sequin shrug/cardi thingy it's amazingly lovely, really

Oh and I forgot. As well as purple top, gold shrug, jeans and converse, I was also wearing a deep red loop-knitted long scarf. Oh God, they were probably being ironic.

Trouble is, Swedes, some women don't ask nicely. There is a distinctly snidey tone to their voice. I don't rise to it though and always have a smile on my face when I answer. IMO, they have a distinct chip on their shoulder and clearly they have some ishoos of their own to address.

The thing is, I would never make anyone feel crap about themselves (as you can see from the nature of my work I am all about the good in oneself). Am not one to strut in to school, all peacock-like, "look at me". But I do like lovely things.

Anyway, massive rant and digression over.

Sequins are beautiful and I have the Primarni sequin bag raved about earlier on another thread. I would say a key way to work sequins is to do the "matt" version (seems to be a fair amount of this around) or sequins and jersey for daytime. I love the description of your outfit with sequins and jeans. Definitely the way to go.

tulpe · 03/11/2009 22:47

Loving that cardi. How have I never heard of M & Co before??

Swedes2Turnips0 · 03/11/2009 22:48

Perhaps my current fascination with sequins and sparkle is age related; a sort of peri-menopausal yelp. I am 45 so allowed to be tacky.

Swedes2Turnips0 · 03/11/2009 22:54

Tulpe - I'd have liked one of those Primarni bags. Are they still in store? We don't have a Primark nearby sadly.

I would love to dress in a more glitsy fashion but my 2 yr old has habit of smearing me with all manner of breakfast choices. You should go for it. Life's too blumming short to worry about what others think, dress for yourself. If you like it, wear it with pride.

noddyholder · 03/11/2009 23:22

That is very evening for morning!www.jigsaw-online.com/fashion/1000730/J10027/womens/dresses/alpaca-merino-lantern-sle eve-dress this is very easy to wear and timeless]]

noddyholder · 03/11/2009 23:24

sorry

tulpe · 03/11/2009 23:29

But it isn't......special is it, Noddy? Looks vastly overpriced for a basic jumper dress, imo.

Agree looks easy to wear but just rather dull.

Knotty - I have spent many years being smothered in breakfast, lunch and dinner choices by DCs . As soon as youngest DC went to school, I seized my opportunity and went shopping .

Swedes - bags are allegedly in store according to other thread from today. Mine was a present from a very dear and sweet friend back in June. You can also get them on ebay. They are gorgeous

noddyholder · 03/11/2009 23:31

Oh no looks elegant and stylish without being daft for am!Contradting coloured tights and lovely boots am
nf scarf and v stylish. The other one would look like a hooker in december!

BEAUTlFUL · 03/11/2009 23:32

That Jigsaw dress is hideous!

BEAUTlFUL · 03/11/2009 23:38

The Peacocks dress looks like it'd be an incredibly flattering shape! I love the cut, except for the ruffles on the sleeves and the spangy bit.

noddyholder · 03/11/2009 23:39

That is your opinion

BEAUTlFUL · 03/11/2009 23:39

spangy bit?? Spangly bit, even.

noddyholder · 03/11/2009 23:40

The peacocks one IS hideous cheap as chips and Liz MacDonaldish

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 03/11/2009 23:44

No, this * is Liz MacDonaldish

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 03/11/2009 23:45

Argh! BigTech has ruined bold as well.

cherryblossoms · 04/11/2009 01:15

OMG! I am so late!

I didn't even know Pearl Lowe was doing clothes for Peacocks. how did I miss this??? Has everyone else known about this for ages?

Swedes2Turnips0 · 04/11/2009 08:22

Noddy - That Jigsaw dress makes me feel lacklustre and lardy just looking at it. Even the model doesn't look that good in it and she's from the would look good in a bin liner camp. The Pearl Lowe for Peacocks dress isn't Liz MacDonaldish. I think it's really lovely. I can cope with it being cheap as chips so long as it doesn't look it. I won't be keeping it if it doesn't fulfill its promise.

I wish it was navy though.
