Tattoos - Yes or No?

Earlybird · 04/06/2005 22:23

Time to confess - who's got tattoos? What are they, and where are they? Do you love them, loathe them, wish you'd never got them, hope to get rid of them, or plan to get more?

Always wondered if they seemed like a good idea at the time, and then later become something you'd rather not have the rest of your life...

Hardly think tattoos are a form of rebellion nowadays - a sign of the conformist I would think.

juicychops · 05/06/2005 16:24

i think you have to wait a year or something after having a tattoo before giving blood

I agree with Ambrosia - how do you know it says your name/mother earth/father time/old slag in Chinese? How do you know the tattooist doesn't write in beeeeyooootiful script "silly fat tart with no taste" or "I'll suck your cock"?

lilsmum · 05/06/2005 20:51

i have 3,i have a red rose on my shoulder which i had done when i was 16, a black chinese symbol on my arm (cant remember what it meant just liked the shape of it lol) i had this sone when i was 18, and a blue flower design on my lower back(above my bum iykwim!) which i had done when i was 21!! i still like them, dont regret them...and would like another, i want a lily (after dd) prob on my hip.

lilsmum · 05/06/2005 20:52

i LOVE tattoo's on men, tried to get dp to have one, he wont...i think he is scared lol

dizzymama · 05/06/2005 22:02

Have one myself but it's on my back (hipster height),IMO it's very pretty (but then I wouldn't have got it if I didn't think that!)I had it there so I could show it off if I wanted to and hide it if I needed to!! DH also has a huge tattoo from shoulder to elbow on one arm, very tasteful one and I think it makes him even more drop dead gorgeous

I'm interested to see how many men have that "barbed wire" tattoo around their biceps.

An acquaintance (a serious tattoo afficionado) told me that "true" tattoo lovers were into serious body art and would always have the design done all the way around the arm - even though it was more expensive and much more painful to have it done on the underside of the arm. He could always spot the trendies looking to be fashionable because their design only went part way around the arm. According to him there's even a hierarchy of tattoos! Also told me that true tattoo lovers would avoid getting a suntan, as their "body art" shows up much better on pale skin....so there's today's trivia..

I hate tattoos on men, weird because I have two. But mine are nice and you just can't trust men to have good taste.

Mum2girls · 07/06/2005 13:01

Don't like them.

LottieG · 07/06/2005 13:21

I love my tattoo and I love my dh's tattoo...

triceratops · 07/06/2005 17:50

I have a friend who has a lot of tattoos and for a bit of a laugh he has the mandarin for peking duck in amongst some artwork on his forearm. He claims that this is so he can order his takeaway even when he is too drunk to speak.

He is taking the mick a bit for all those people who just choose a character from a book when they walk in to the studio and want "a tattoo". Peking duck is quite an elegant looking bit of script if any of you are considering it.

fluffybunnyfeet · 07/06/2005 18:33

Hi I have a tattoo on the top of my left arm. It is actually to cover up another tattoo of my ex-husbands name (I was very young and stupid). I totally love the one I have now. I designed it myself (my Art & Design course has come into use! ) My dh has one on his right arm of my name in Hindu. It is really cool and different. It is really a personal choice and if they are done well then you could look on them as a piece of art. Not that I would have any more the last one was sooooo painful. Now I'm older i think my pain threshhold has fallen.

vickiyumyum · 08/06/2005 10:33

Earlybird- LOL at what you said about not getting a tan. thats my DH's reason for not going abroad on holiday this year as doesn't want his tattoos to fade!
sod him though i'll just take the kids on hol whiles hes at work!

Smurfgirl · 08/06/2005 18:35

I like mine, its stars on my hip bone. You can't see it unless I show you so its personal and private.

Dislike most tatoos though. I am sure I will hate mine in a few years too, but heh.

shalaa · 11/06/2005 21:55

Have 2 tattoos, a celtic thingy on my right shoulder and a chinese dragon on my right. Didn't hurt that much, then again after giving birth nothing will ever hurt that much.

Want another one that symbolises ds in someway.

shalaa · 11/06/2005 21:55

oops dragon is on left shoulder

jambo1707 · 15/06/2005 08:29

I have a wee devil lady with "too hot too handle" underneath her.

Obviously in my younger days i was tatooed( well 8 years ago), Its just above my right boob but now gravity has taken over as the boobies are now going south

No regrets really about having it done.

I am looking to have another with my 3 boys names on but not sure what too have any ideas please???

Not wanting anything big and manly, just "womanly" if there is such a tattoo

lilaclotus · 15/06/2005 08:35

i haven't got any. mostly because of what my mum said years ago. "imagine a tattoo on a 70 year old woman, because it'll be there until you're that old."
