Tattoos - Yes or No?

Time to confess - who's got tattoos? What are they, and where are they? Do you love them, loathe them, wish you'd never got them, hope to get rid of them, or plan to get more?

Always wondered if they seemed like a good idea at the time, and then later become something you'd rather not have the rest of your life...

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

joash · 05/06/2005 11:59

but only cause I'm a coward

Anyway, if I'd had a tatoo done when I was thin ... wouldn't it have grown as I did ... it'd be bloody enormous by now

moondog · 05/06/2005 12:02

Sorry to hijack-joash,did you see the supplement in last week's Observer about g'parents who look after the children/

StMichaeltheArcAngel · 05/06/2005 12:07

those without will burn in a hell consisting of mirrored drawers and tables and blue and white patterned curtains.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/06/2005 12:24

I have two tattos on my back. The first I had done I wouldnt be without and the second i had, i live with and it looks ok for now but to be honest i am self concious as it is larger than i expected.

To be honest i find it annoying when people say tattoos say negative things about the person who has them. It is, I guess to do with social acceptability and that it is assumed if you have tattoos you are rebelious, less intelligent, cheap (if female) or a thug (generally if male).

How long ago was it that people judged people if they were open about their sexuality (actually people still do), or for the colour of their skin?

At the end of the day I guess it is a case by case basis, i mean if someone had a swaztiki tattoed on their arm that would be offensive, however if someone wants to tattoo their kids name or a rose or whatever, if it is not bigotry, racist etc where is the harm?

Also i dont know if i agree that it is abou the pain for all tbh as i nearly gave up on second tattoo half way through as it hurt too much.. that was 3 years ago and i wont be getting another because it hurt so much.

Cod, I choose to have japanese art on my walls (my favorite artist is Kywanabe Kyosai), japanese flower prints on my duvet cover and japanese art on my dinner service. I like the aesthetic, why would I have a british bulldog on my bum?

joash · 05/06/2005 12:41

Moondog - thanks for the message. I did see the article some other MNer directed me to it. Thanks anyway.

they used to say women shouldnt wear trousers as they would be 'common' as well.

Thants me buggerd then.. must be a right common person.. wearing jeans, 2 tattoos, belly button pierced, (used to have tongue and nose peirced too), white flacid skin.. sheesh.. i better sell my reasonabley nice car, qut university, throw my qualifications in the bin and go on the social with my ds.. ohh and i better start smoking again (nothing like a fag hanging outta yer mouth) and swearing like a trooper too!! There you go.. thats what tattoos have dont for me.. actually i will get a W on each bum cheek then i can get it out, bend right over and spell wOw..
