Can you wash ugg boots?

In the washing machine, that is. Mine are manky beyond belief, but still in good order otherwise. Have never come across a suede cleaner that works well enough and to be quite frank they are a bit stinky too. Anybody ever done this, does it work?

I have just washed mine & put them outside to dry & they are perfect.

Look like new again,i washed them on a 30 & 1/4 scoop of non bio persil.

I have just placed them on the back door step, dont peg them as you will get paeg marks on them then.

PM73 · 22/08/2009 13:43

Peg marks even.

Katiekitty · 22/08/2009 15:14

What if one uses the Lakeland 'no mark' pegs? Have we stumbled on ugg gold here?

Katiekitty · 22/08/2009 15:22

Also - just curious, do your uggs lean to a particular direction? Or do you just let them go wherever they will? It could be portenteous (sp?) And, what would you do if a dog ran off with them? They're just stood on your step like that! (no worry intended) would you fight that dog to reclaim those uggs?

Clure · 22/08/2009 17:19

I washed DD's pink ones in the washing machine on a low temp wash. They came out a murky grey colour!

Katiekitty · 22/08/2009 18:38

Murky grey? that's no good. Will DS wear them again?

Come on, i'm poised by the washer here,do I bung them in or not?

Oh the temptation!

Katiekitty · 22/08/2009 18:39

DD oops!

JRocks · 22/08/2009 18:55

go on do it!

PM73 · 22/08/2009 20:34

I stood them up & they were fine, then to dry the inside i placed them at an angle with a small pot under each one.

They have dried perfectly & look fab.

I just buffed them a bit with a suede brush.

Oh & i would wrestle a dog for my uggs back

Katiekitty · 22/08/2009 22:27

Oh, I need details here! a small pot? what?

Am still poised by the washer, what are you talkin about? a small pot underneath what?

Also, you buffed? with what? please, details...

Clure · 23/08/2009 11:03

Katiekitty, DD did wear them again but they didn't look very nice (she still loved them) What colour are yours?

Clure · 23/08/2009 11:03

Have to add that DD's were cheap ones from sainsbury's!

PM73 · 23/08/2009 11:43

To dry them inside i placed them on their sides & put a small plastic pot(the type you use for weaning) under the leg part of the boot so that the sun could dry them inside.

Then when they were dry i got my suede brush & brushed them gently.

Katiekitty · 23/08/2009 14:31

PM73- It sounds like it can't go wrong! Great system you've got going there.

Clure - mine are a pale blue colour - or they were once - now they're grey with caked on filth and grime. The fluffy bit at the top that's folded over, reveals the colour they were underneath!

It's wash day here today - once I've finished the load that's on the go, I think I'm going to go for it and show those uggs who's the boss!

They're going in the machine!

tiredoftherain · 23/08/2009 15:47

Go for it katiekitty!!

I've just taken mine out, they're looking a bit bedraggled but still in one piece, and oh so lovely and clean!! Am going to stick them in the airing cupboard as it's drizzling here. They're still standing up on their own so I'm going to reshape them and hope for the best.

And if it doesn't work, I have a lovely pair of new Bailey Button ones to wear which arrived last week. It's a win win!

Katiekitty · 23/08/2009 15:52

They're awaiting their wash!

Do I use fabric softner? I've run out!

Katiekitty · 23/08/2009 15:57

Sorry, I've got another question!

Do you mean the 30 minute hand wash cycle? Or the 'delicates' at 30 degree wash that takes longer than 30 minutes?

I'm determined to get this one right!

tiredoftherain · 23/08/2009 16:13

I didn't use fabric softener, and I used the 30 delicates cycle. Go on go on go on..

Katiekitty · 23/08/2009 16:54

They're in the machine! (nervous emoticon and excitement emoticon)...

cocolepew · 23/08/2009 16:59

I have River Island sheepskin boots that have stretched I was wondering if I put them in the machine if they would shrink a bit. Going to give it a go now.

Clure · 23/08/2009 18:23

katiekitty - do tell, whats happened to your uggs?!

PM73 · 23/08/2009 18:48

KatieKitty - how have they turned out?

Katiekitty · 23/08/2009 18:56

Oh my giddy aunt! They've emerged looking just fine! Much of the filth seems to have been washed away, I can still very faintly make out the line where I had the fluffy top turned over, but frankly, I am very impressed. (katiekitty doffs cap to MN wisdom)

Made a fine clunking sound in the machine!

They're drying out in the kitchen as it looks like rain outside. When they're nice and dry, I'll conduct a thorough check on any shrinkage by shoving my feet back in em.

How exciting!

Clure · 23/08/2009 19:29

excellent....

tiredoftherain · 23/08/2009 19:50

What a revelation. I wonder if Ugg sales will plummet now we have all discovered this.. Now to do my other pairs!
