Can you wash ugg boots?

In the washing machine, that is. Mine are manky beyond belief, but still in good order otherwise. Have never come across a suede cleaner that works well enough and to be quite frank they are a bit stinky too. Anybody ever done this, does it work?

he he plummeting sales! If anything, they'll go up as now they're washable!

Just having a close inspection of mine - I can't keep away from them - the filth must have been quite bad as I think they could go another wash sooner or later. Beacause they look much cleaner now, it's showing up the ingrained grot more!

They smell all gorgeous and fresh!

Ah Framey - sounds like you gave them a good send off though.

Right, have just confidently put mine in thanks to this thread.

Would it be madness to tumble dry them?

Report
Katiekitty · 04/09/2009 18:38

Septimus - yes. Maybe. Wash first, see what you think, then go crazy and report back!

Mine took a good two-three days to be thoroughly dry, but I tell you, they are scrubbing up a treat! Slightly paler that before, some bad marks (filthy stuff) still remaining, bu on the whole, they have done me proud.

Not sure I'd tumble dry due to shrinkage ears, possibly because the lining would shrink at a different rate from the outer, but also, the heat may make part of the sole perish too!

What's your evaluation on the washing of 'em?

'Shrinkage ears'?? I wish. Shrinkage fears rather...

Hope you don't mind me dragging up this old thread but I didn't want to start a new one. I'm just about to put my uggs in the washing machine when they come out I'm hoping that they wont -ahem-smell as much. Is there anything else I could do to help? Did I read that you can shake some bicarb of soda in them to help eliminate smells?

What about the knitted uggs?
Wonder if they'll survive a quick wash in the machine?

Anyone tumble-dried their uggs?

Report
bishboschone · 07/11/2012 10:11

No don't tumble them . Stuff them with newspaper and put them near ( not on ) a radiator or in the airing cupboard . They don't take long to dry .

I wash mine all the time. I had a pair that stank and had spent weeks shoved out on the patio. Got covered in cobwebs, rained on, they were smelly - rank.

Shoved em on a wool cycle with some Woolite. Like new.

Word of warning on those cheap sites....I found a pair of Dr Marten boots for £30, on a cheap shoe site thought fab, ordered via paypal and then googled....loads of people saying dodgy. Stories of the website sending a biro from Hong Kong with a tracking number so the buyers could not claim via payal. I cancelled the order (which you can only do within a limited time after ordering I think?)

Not saying that the sites linked are like that but beware, if something is too good to be true it probably isn't (true that is).

Decided to register on this great site so that I could give some Ugg boot washing input! Read all the helpful input on this thread first, then decided to just go for it! Uggs are genuine, around 5 yrs old, light grey ankle. Were VERY cruddy!! Put them in machine with equally cruddy dog towels on QUICK was at 40C, with a colour liquid tab thrown in, NO fabric conditioner! They went through normal cycle with a couple or more normal SPINS. They came out looking fabulous. Didn't shrink!! Stuffed them with old socks right down to the toes and up the legs whilst drying, they took around 2 days to dry naturally and thoroughly. Should get another 5 years out of them lol!! Hope that helps anyone who's feeling cautious!

Don't waste your money on ugh boot products, view the leather as you would your own skin. I hand washed mine with a baby soap bar in a bucket of Luke warm water with a small amount of hair conditioning in it. I squeezed dry as much water as possible then used a towel to soak up any extra moisture. I rubbed sobalene cream into the outside suede and threw them into my dryer on low heat. It will take several cycles to get them dry. My uggs are baby pink so no hope for hiding visible damage, they came out soft, and clean and ready for another winter thrashing :)
