Can I get away wearing this to dh's work summer party?

this top with skinny smark black trousers, silver heels and lots of silver jewellery?

The party is usually quite formal, most of the men are in suits as they come straight from work, and most of the women are 20 something Essex girls and so they love to dress up, and will probably be wearing prom dresses and the like.

Bearing in mind I'm about 15 years older than most of the women there and 5 months pg is this outfit smart enough?

notamumyetbutoneday · 22/07/2009 14:40

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 14:44

I think its lovely, and is smart enough. Not that summery though.

VinegarTits · 22/07/2009 14:49

Its nice, lovely colour too

notamumyetbutoneday · 22/07/2009 15:23

Top is lovely. Very elegant

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/07/2009 15:37

Do you have white trousers instead? It is a beautiful colour but I think it would look more summery with white skinny trousers

Silver jewellery and silver heels sounds gorgeous with the top

MaryHuff · 22/07/2009 15:38

agree would look better with white. don't think it would go well with black.

janeite · 22/07/2009 15:40

It's deffo smart enough and I like the silver idea but black and blue together can look a bit bruise-like and it won't look summery. I live in black though - so know nothing!

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 15:41

I do have some white trousers but they're wide legged linen ones... do you think that's too much volume? I thought a top like that needs skinny trousers on the bottom. I can't seem to find any white skinny mat trousers, they all seem to be wide legged.

hmm......yes, I think skinny needs to be the way forward. Will do quick search for you. Back in a mo.....

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/07/2009 16:10

Seraphine white jeans

slight bootleg but still quite fitted

very nice

all this maternity wear searching is making me broody....but only because I can't believe how great maternity wear is now....and my youngest DS is only 5 so not eons ago that I last bought any......

and finally Top Shop

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:13

I do have a rather, ahem large arse, so I'm not sure skinny white trousers would be very nice on me... they might make me look hoooooge.

For those struggling with the whole petrol blue/black thing, does it help that I'm quite dark skinned with dark blonde hair? I was thinking the black trousers would make it look a bit more dramatic/disco diva

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/07/2009 16:15

But the dress is long at the back, non? So arse will be covered

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 16:15

i thinkt its fine
tis only a works do fgs

Jaquelinehyde · 22/07/2009 16:16

I think the balck and blue combination with loads of silver will look really nice.

Go for it

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:16

The party has a no jeans rule, I'm not sure I can get away with skinny white jeans.

The black trousers I have are quite smart, almost like tuxedo trousers (would link to them but I bought them last time I was pg)

Jaquelinehyde · 22/07/2009 16:17

Silver shoes and white trousers are a no imo anyway.

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:18

That's right MrsJS, but I could never really get away with wearing them again as I wouldn't look that great in them in anything that wasn't at least as long. I could I suppose get some more long tunic type tops to wear with them... another excuse to shop!

I think black would look good, I often wear blue with black, even thoughg it is meant to be a no-no it can look really classy as long as you have the right kind of blue. Given that the top looks slightly purpley to me I think it would go. I also think black is better for an evening look, and you will be lightening it with the silver so I say go for it!

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:19

Yeah I know setsquare, but it's a City law firm so it's quite smart. Heck if it was my work I'd turn up in my bog standard old jeans and be done, but they're all lawyers earning gazillions or girlie secretaries with no children who spend their entire monthly income on clothes and makeup. I always feel like the frumpy old matron when I go to their company dos!

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:20

chunkamatic, the blue is more like petrol blue. Not too purple-y.

I wouldn't feel comfortable at the sort of event you are describing in the outfit you are describing - I would want to wear something a bit more chic, especially if I were pregnant, which tends to not be one's chicest moment.

Can you buy a dress that you can then wear through to the end of your pregnancy?
