Can I get away wearing this to dh's work summer party?

this top with skinny smark black trousers, silver heels and lots of silver jewellery?

The party is usually quite formal, most of the men are in suits as they come straight from work, and most of the women are 20 something Essex girls and so they love to dress up, and will probably be wearing prom dresses and the like.

Bearing in mind I'm about 15 years older than most of the women there and 5 months pg is this outfit smart enough?

BA, I've looked and there are so few nice dresses out there. Maternity clothing is in a woeful state here at the moment. As the sales are on all the mat stuff has been moved off to make way for sales stuff, and what mat clothes there are left is all flipping yoga pants and silly tee shirts. I can't really justify spending £200 on something lovely from Isabella Oliver or somewhere like that for what will essentially be 3 hours on HMS Belfast. If I could find something for about £40-£50 I would do it, but there's nothing....

Actually the one time I think you can get away with being a bit underdressed is when you are pg. I don't think anyone really notices what you are wearing, I went to some very glitzy showbiz parties in similair outfits. You could have a quick look at Topshop though, they do sometimes have cheap and glam maternity dresses.

BonsoirAnna · 22/07/2009 16:39

How about this with your silver shoes and accessories, with some kind of shawl?

tattycoram · 22/07/2009 16:40

That's lovely Anna

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:41

Tatty, I've had a look on topshop's site.. they do have a dress that's very similar to the one I've got, but my concern is it's too short.. I've got so many thread veins it looks like someone's been at my legs with a biro. I really don't want to be wearing tights all evening... that's why I thought the dress over skinny trousers might help. If they had some nice maxi dresses it wouldn't be so bad....

I'm not sure about the sizing, but I'm a size 16 UK and I don't think they have it. Plus pregnancy has taken my boobs to an F cup so they will look massive in that sort of shape dress. I need something with a deep v. Looks great on the model though, I like the edgyness of it.

Honestly I think what you're planning to wear is lovely. Do you look well when you're pregnant, or are you feeling a bit knackered?

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 16:49

like the knot dress and the concert one

MmeLindt · 22/07/2009 16:50

This one can be worn with trousers

Maxidress but in US. They have a store in London though, they might have the dress there.

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 16:51

am slighly concerned abotu the swishy skirt pose!!!

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 16:51

adn the red one

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:52

Those are lovely setsquare, but out of my budget really. If I was going to a nice wedding I'd splash out, but it's only for a few hours in the evening.

Tatty, I do look ok, but I really pile on the weight when I'm pg (lots of water retention - after ds I lost 2 stone in 10 days ) but other than that I do get nice skin and hair so I'm hoping that and my heaving cleavage will distract from my hefty frame!

here oyu are offer her £25 BIN and job done

SetSquare · 22/07/2009 16:56

next?

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:56

The red one is very nice setsquare, but they don't say anything about their sizing.. S M or L, but no idea what each refers to in UK sizing.

more sodding black

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:57

Less keen on black SS, too Greek widow for me...

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/07/2009 16:57

How about this maxi with your silver accessories?

or, if you feel you could manage knee length try this instead

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:58

LOL you read my mind about the black... it's really hard to get away from the boring old black isn't it?

OP posts:
tattycoram · 22/07/2009 16:59

You'll get away with anything if you've got glowing skin and big boobs

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 16:59

MrsJS.. I saw that top shop one... I do worry that it's too short, and satin with large chest = even larger chest in my book!

OP posts:
SetSquare · 22/07/2009 17:00

ues yoi might have to bung loads of silver on

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 17:00

tatty... that's what I was hoping! As I said before I'm quite tanned too from spending most of the summer so far outside, so I'm a good colour.

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 17:01

SS - I'm not picturing Mr T like piling on of the silver jewellery to avoid comparison with Greek widow!

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 17:01

dur, I meant now picturing....!
