Are Converse boots/ shoes acceptable for the over 30s?

I want some. I have some money for them. But will I be mocked on my return to the UK? They are quite acceptable here but then so are fanny packs and white socks.

Do I get shoes or boots?

Black or more interesting?

I have 2 pairs - black and navy blue, which I think are suitably understated colours for people my age. People have been known to express their shock and horror, which I have taken to mean I am never normally quite so fashionable. Either that or I'm turning into my children.

I've got one pair of shoes and one of boots and personally find the shoes more comfortable - plus they're a bit more summery. It's quite warm at the moment though and I'm mostly wearing these

I can only get shoes so just need to decide black or grey or navy laceless ones (think I might be a little too old for those)

Fitflops look comfy but ever so slightly croclike

I'm going to show dh this when he gets up. I want some colourful boots like I used to have in my twenties but he says I'm being ridiculous. I reckon if they're just poking out under jeans they'll be great.

I love my raspberry pink converse (which IMO are the ONLY trainers that are ok with jeans - see 'Mumsy' thread LOL). I also wear them with a wee denim skirt and with baggy knee length shorts.

There is a serious point in this, and in the mumsy thread though - why are we so judgey (and discriminatory) towards older women?

As a nearly-50, it's a bit of a sore point with me.

Why is age seen as such a negative thing?

I got my first pair of Converse when I was 12 and have been wearing them ever since (not the actual same pair!). You are nver too old or young!

I am 38 and have red Converse shoes, white converse shoes and brown leather PF Flyers. Also a pair of similar sneakery shoes from Fat Face. When I was heavily pg last summer, the Converse were the only shoes that fit and gave me support.

All mine are shoes, I think the boots are a bit teenage. Maybe that is because I wore the boots as a teenager.

The 'mumsy' thread mutated from a tongue in cheek bit of banter about carrying tissues and wearing cagoules into a touchy and sensitive thread about being comfortable in your own skin. I think you should wear what you like. I do and as I live in a rural village where everyone is constantly wearing cagoules and rucksacks i am a bit of an oddity with my kneehigh boots and skinny jeans. But who cares? I have my own standards about what I wear and about 'letting myself go' compared to the way I was pre- kids but I wouldn't seriously impose those standards on anyone else.

Wear your converse with pride no matter what age you are

Riven - I'm afraid they're pretty rubbish at supporting the feet, and the sole doesn't have a lot of 'give' in it either.

Though they are comfortable, for my freakishly wide feet...

Shoes. I have some v old green ones and I have just ordered some silver patent leather Converse. I'm 45.

Riven - PF Flyers are more supportive I think (PF stands for Posture Foundation) - they have a thickish shaped sole unlike Converses.

TK Maxx sometimes have a discounted selection. I think full price is around £40-£50, but I bought all mine for £15 a pair.

Oh and to answer the OP - I hope so, I'm mid-40s!

Sadly Converses are too narrow for me or I'd buy them, I've got 3 pairs of PF Flyers in a similar style though.
