for which I am very grateful btw - the Monsoon ones were out of stock mostly and the Reiss ones too officey and too Aintree ladies day I am now looking at this...what do you think?

More expensive than the other options but for a registry office with 2 witnesses and then onto Venice? Am not sure if I am too intimidated to actually go and try it on as well - does anyone know the main VW shop on Conduit St?

I like the shape of that yellow one norks...I am beginning to wonder when my taste in dresses went so austere...

I think if you look and feel great in structured shapes you should go for it. It's just the fabric and the colour of the Reiss one seems a bit dull, but the same sort of style in a more satin-y fabric or lighter/ brighter colour (eg. the yellow FWM one).

OK, not much actual help but just clarifying!

Penthesileia · 25/05/2009 21:07

OK, I know you said lighter colours, but this Notte by Marchesa dress is really lovely.

This Rachel Roy dress is beautiful, and rather wedding-y.

Bustier style from Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti.

Love the colour of this Nina Ricci bustier dress.

Not sure about lurex, but hubba hubba!

Hot pink from Burberry.

Ok going of the beaten track here but:teatro

not what you asked for but stunning

size not in stock but surely trackdownable

MerryMarigold · 25/05/2009 21:14

[http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/46129 too sexy for the office] - you could walk down the street in this, but I think it's sexy enough with some nice jewellery to be weddingy

MerryMarigold · 25/05/2009 21:15

oops too sexy for the office, but it is grey!

GossipMonger · 25/05/2009 21:22

this is lovely in RL

MerryMarigold · 25/05/2009 21:39

Could you wear something like this with the Reiss dress and hold some flowers? More I think about it, more I think you should go with what you like and just prettify it a bit.

giantkatestacks · 25/05/2009 22:50

Yes thats exactly what I was thinking MM - a pencil skirted grey dress with some big shoes, a few white tulips and some pearls.

The wedding is small and am not bothered about that at all but I really love clothes [shallow emoticon] and so want to get it right. Equally I want my dp to think I look great.

Heated I like that Amanda Wakely one...

I can sense another mammoth trying on trip coming up...I should take you all with me...

OP I think your choices sound very elegant and unique. Very femme fatale in a Bette Davis/Katherine Hepburn/insert screen legend of choice way.

Go for it!

Good luck with your search... I just thought of another dress I looked at which was pretty femme fatale and elegant..
Coast Dress

another coast dress! There was a very similar one to this in Monsoon, but in a sort of dusky bronze/musk colour...sounds dodgy but looked really nice!

The VW dress you liked also comes in black and in white with a funky grape vine print on it. You can also get it as seperates so have that fa neckline with a different skirt. (I spent a lot of time drooling in the VW department)

I was going to go with the white parachute dress from All Saints...but got too scared about not be able to wear a bra whilst still breast feeding! In the end I found a fab 1950's dress in the vintage department at liberty...It was about three times by budget, but was definitely the one for me so had to have it!
Selfridges was a good place to start though as they had all the designer stuff in one place and the ground floor has Oasis, All Saints, Warehouse, Top Shop etc. There is a large french Connection next door which also had some good dresses, and if you can face it, the basement of Top Shop had some gorgeous dresses in thier designer posh range.

giantkatestacks · 26/05/2009 13:25

Thanks all - those Coast ones are good and will try them on as well when I brave the trip up to town...will keep Top Shop as my reward at the end of the day when I have actually bought something...

I have got bf issues as well but am just going to ignore them for one day - after all dd will have to get used to me being away for 2 days while I am on honeymoon (she is 15 months though)...

Am going to go into Coast and try on the VW one - and possibly the parachute one as well...do you know if the VW prices in Selfridges were roughly the same as online?

hongkongzoe · 26/05/2009 14:23

I can't remember as I didn't look online. I guess if they were cheaper you could try it on then order it online! Good luck, I hope you find something! Report back with pictures
