LOL @ school uniform!

But what I need to know is, is there a better bag out there? Have any of you seen one?

franca - how sensible you are! I will go and mooch over it in John Lewis. Do you think they will allow me to fill it full of crap and walk around the shop to test run it?

francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2009 20:47

LOL! Do it!
I recently went to an outlet where there's a prada shop, and there I saw the most beautiful bag, dark grey and big... it was reduced to 400 euros and I really gave it serious thought, but it was bloody heavy and I could feel a back ache coming on.... so me and sil started an exhausting psycho drama and talked ourselves out of it.

We need an enabler.

Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 20:50

@ psychodrama. I have long conversations with myself in stores, trying to persuade myself not to buy things...!

blondissimo · 13/05/2009 20:54

LTEC - You won't be surprised to hear that I am blonde with pale skin (occasionally bronzed by a bit of tan in a can). I am a make-up artist so don't really want to spend my points on make-up as have stacks and also bit of a busmans holiday for me. So am thinking body/skincare? Have got pretty normal skin. Sorry we are all taking over the post!

francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2009 20:55

Talking myself out of buying things is my fav sport. I think it is actually a neurosis.

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 20:59

But Mulberry is so fantastic - timeless!! I have a Bayswater which I use even with nappies etc in it.
Are you in London? can you go to Liberty rather than JL for your test run? Nicer experience...

have you seen Ignes bags? might be worth a look. Anya Hindmarch? Or Meli Melo??

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 13/05/2009 21:08

LOL @ neurosis. I totally agree. It's when you find yourself talking out loud that you know you're in trouble. I pretend I'm talking to DD: "oooooh. Look at the nice dress/shoes/moisturiser/bag... Should/shouldn't mummy buy it?"

Not in London, sadly, so JL the nearest stockist, I think. But I'm probably going to London at the end of the month, so could pop to Liberty then...

Thanks for those ideas - will check them out.

I've been tempted by the Bayswater for ages... But I feel, to justify the expense , I want a more work type bag, which the Roxanne A4 looks like...

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 21:08

Blondissimo: LOL I thought you might be but didn't want to assume.

Okay, skip the makeup - how fab that you are a makeup artist by the way, what kind of work do you do?
And forget thread hijacking, the original point of the thread is all sorted now - we are no just in a frenzy of consumerism!!
Um, body and skincare... I dunno, I just use BioOil and some Burt's Bees stuff... but Boots have tons of stuff, you can go wild. Oh I know!! Exfoliating gloves!!! and Hair Food.

Franca - I don't know if you;d be able to get the dress in Milan now that it's 'last season' but you could always return it if no good? Their returns process is really good.

Let them eat cake - my memory has been jogged as well looking at your profile. I was in the wedding business from 2003-2006 and I am sure I have seen your wedding photo too!

Was it in the Wedding Directory?

I can't see the scratch so I would say the £90 refund is a good deal.

Am loving the Primark shoes - you wear them well because you are tanned.

I am also a lover of the Miss Sporty range in s/drug. Fab mascara! Although I have to point out that I am neither a "Miss" or "Sporty"!

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 22:51

oh my god!!

How odd. No, it was in Wedding Ideas magazine.
What did you do in the wedding business?

The Primark shoes are great aren't they!!! £8!!! EIGHT, I tell you!!

OP posts:
lambanana · 13/05/2009 22:59

I worked as a wedding planner but for an organisation not my own business. I left to have babies and haven't gone back so I am a full time SAHM.

I was just trying to think back to the magazines we subscribed to and the wedding directory came to mind but we used to get copies of others when they were putting the feelers out for marketing opportunities so that's how I must have clocked you!

God it's a small world really isn't it?

By the way those Primark bargains really are a joy to behold.

My new look ones are strappy silver, with a T bar of fat jewels. Haven't had them on my feet yet because it's been feckin freezin!

Am liking the bag talk. I have a fair few but it's shoes that I love!

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 23:14

that wedding dress has been one strange coincidence after another, since the day I first laid eyes on it. Such an odd tale. But it is a memorable dress, I guess the painted flowers are what does it. I'd remember it if I'd seen it in a magazine

And there was another MNer who saw my profile and said that she'd had a pic of that dress in her wedding scrapbook .. can't remember whether she'd tried it on though

Oh you;re making me want to get it out of storage and look at it!!!

OP posts:
lambanana · 13/05/2009 23:18

I think as well that it is a memorable photo. You are both so happy, the sum is shining and yep that dress.

Get it out of the loft and have a twirl in it - spoil yourself and throw your new Jimmy's on while you are about it!

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 23:32

but I am 21 weeks preg!! no chance!!

Hi LTEC Did you see Hello magazine today? Saw Cheryl Cole in your Marc Jacobs tulip dress. (ps don't normally read hello, it was in the BA lounge!!)

Also just received a letter from bank saying that Mortgage has been reduced by £400 per month - can I press checkout on the new Choos do you think?

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 23:43

okay Choogirl, I need to know what your job is!! you are always travelling! how old are your kids?

YES!!!! press checkout!! we can be shoe twins (although I suspect that your feet are substantially more petite than mine...)

haven't seen Hello, will check it out .. damn that Cole woman.

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 23:44

OP posts:
CHOOGIRL · 13/05/2009 23:55

Can't give too much away without outing myself iykwim!! I work in Communications/PR. DD is 3 - but has a Lelli Kelly shoe habit already! DP is SAHD which enables me to travel for work.

marymungoandmidge · 14/05/2009 00:00

Get the Mulberry bag...they are classic and timeless...I would suggest an Hermes Birkin as an alternative...but frigging major layout! Not in these recessionary times (although it is an investment!?) I am a real bag lady IYSWIM!

blondissimo · 14/05/2009 15:30

Went off to watch The Apprentice last night and forgot all about this thread!
Cake - I am a SAHM now actually although MUA by trade. I am starting to think about going back to work once I can sort out childcare for little one. I've done fashion shows, a short film, some free photos for portfolio, corporate work and a bit of bridal make up. I was really just getting started when I accidentally fell pregnant. So going back will be like starting from scratch!
Penthesileia - I think you should get the bag - if you do see a better one afterwards then you can save up for that too!
You can never have too many bags!
