frigging awesome!

I used a method from this thread and then something similar to trim the back.
I did have same length below shoulder hair and now it is all layered and light and pretty.
And it took 10 minutes in the kitchen with a brush, hairband and some scissors!

Well yours looks lovely and mine looks rubbish, that's the main difference really The cut is all wrong, I just don't think I'm very good at doing this. Maybe it is because I am blonde...

Not trying to make you feel guilty by the way, I am just envious of your fabulous free haircut.

Pippinella · 22/04/2009 14:35

Wow - just rushed upstairs and got snipping - I am so impressed! It looks fab - try it!

It cut all the dead wood out and loads of weight!

toolly · 22/04/2009 14:36

Forgot to thank JB. Thanks JB! I was [hmmm] now

toolly · 22/04/2009 14:36

Forgot to thank JB. Thanks JB! I was now

milkysallgone · 22/04/2009 14:39

Cheers Jack; will have another go later.

JackBauer · 22/04/2009 14:42

mammya, wasn't having a blonde dig there, jut that it willlook different as I am brunette .....um....

My after pics were soooo styled with much tweaking of strands as well Is it too short? too long? not layery enough and too 'steppy? let me (the person who knows fuck all about haircuts, or style) help

OP posts:
JackBauer · 22/04/2009 14:46

You;re welcome toolly! and pippinella!

OP posts:
mammya · 22/04/2009 15:03

Yes it's too 'steppy' and not layered enough. And the layers are all the wrong lengths. WAIL!

I didn't think you were having a blonde dig, or only in an ironic fashion I love blonde jokes anyway!

MerlinsBeard · 22/04/2009 16:54

JB - don't you copy and paste the list each time??

JeanPoole · 22/04/2009 19:42

mammapiggy, step this way to see the meringe swans.

over here

JackBauer · 22/04/2009 20:05

Mom, Oh yes, but then I have to go through posts to make sure I don;t miss anyone, and add them on, and scroll up and down as my memory is rubbish

If it's too steppy then I think you haven't feathered it enough, it needs more snipping.
If you only do a few snips there will only be a few lengths, but the more you do while moving the scissors around (I took them out of the pony each time) the more different lengths so the more layers.
does that makes sense? and are you brave enough to cut more

OP posts:
girlandboy · 22/04/2009 20:24

Still tempted, but I forgot to buy some nice snippy scissors today.

I don't suppose the kitchen scissors will do at all.

JackBauer · 22/04/2009 20:26

I used the kitchen scissors. I wasn't going to get hair on my nice expensive sewing scissors

OP posts:
girlandboy · 22/04/2009 20:29

Don't think my kitchen scissors are quite sharp enough.

The only other option is either nail scissors or pinking shears.

SlightlyMadStirrup · 22/04/2009 20:47

I have also been doing a bit of self ananlysis of my layers whilst I was on my lonesome in my hotel room last night.... I think my ponytail was on top of my head (but right at the front) - the geometry of which means that you will get 2 batches of layers the same length - creating a step rather than a graduation. Not explaining myself very well so you will have to trust me.

I think that yoiu need to make sure that the ponytail is in front of your hairline and "floppy" like in the video.

If you want a fringe cut quite close to teh ponytail elastic (like they did in the original video on youtube). If you want no fringe cut further away - like the position of JackBaurs hand in her photo where she is holding her ponytail up in the air. Remember you can alsways trim more off to make it shorter it is difficult (though not impossible with extensions) to make it longer!

Happy cutting everyone...I really love mine now!

I done my dds (10) hair this morning. It was half way down her back and all one length before. Now its shoulder length with a fringe. Im impressed. My own hair is quite a similar style already and not long enough to try cutting this way yet.

JackBauer · 22/04/2009 22:50

I love the way the DD's are letting you all cut their hair based ona thread on MN

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 22/04/2009 22:56

DH still not noticed and I cut another couple of inches off today. Now a) even shorter and b) much choppier/messier due to layers. Looks good.

Emily3030 · 22/04/2009 23:13

I have done mine too and love it. Thanks all!

lotsofteddies · 22/04/2009 23:14

I have done mine too and love it. Thanks all!

EyeballsintheSky · 22/04/2009 23:15

I've had 5 more attempts just now and now got it the way I want it. I didn't seem to be making the back any shorter although it was getting steadily shorter round the sides. So I took all my courage in my hands, thought feck it, and put the ponytail high up in what I thought was the middle top of my head and chopped away. Now it looks more layered round the back and I'm really loving it. The only problem is stopping myself hacking more and more off it!

lotsofteddies · 22/04/2009 23:16

ah. oops. Guess there's no way of deleting a post huh? lol.

JackBauer · 22/04/2009 23:20

Excellent

(will ignore that lotsofteddies)

Eyeballs, that's what I did, have cut back twice now. It shouldn't work like that but it does!

OP posts:
lotsofteddies · 22/04/2009 23:28

I should've known I wouldn't even be able to name change properly! Only did it as was going to post a pic, but wont now as I know lots of mums up the school use MN and I don't want them reading my history!

Sorry, am rambling. Absolutely love the cut though, looks great.
