here

I LOVE the print and shape... but I would like it much more in a heavy cotton, then I could wear it all summer over jeans for beach and stuff - but it's silk and probably delicate.

OTOH - I love it so much, I kind of want to get it as an investment (when next feeling flush) for weddings etc.

Has anyone got it and can tell me what it's like?

les dawson on a greek island?

muffle · 01/04/2009 16:39

Yes, I can, it's just a psychological step ordering something so expensive - and I know I'll probably want to keep it even if it is a bit short etc. Am going to do it though - worried it will sell out now! Several people on this thread have already been more decisive than me - about my dress...

It's a shame poor Les is no longer with us, as he would be a great model for Toast. That would puncture the overbearingly smug waftiness of their catalogues.

muffle · 01/04/2009 17:19

Les's dress really does look like a toast one!

JCMG I'm going to buy the entire Autumn collection!

Thanks for the link!

Hoxton, thank you for your ideas too. I think that hoss intropia looks very interesting.

Springflower · 01/04/2009 20:42

Thanks BeehiveBaby. Do you know when it expires as I'm away on holiday next week and so was thinking I would order it when I come back if it lasts that long. Thanks

See I got hooked into toast after being totally pissed off with Boden dresses and wayward sizing
So toast I thought @ price but then giggled to spendthrift credit carded self HAH I can return as fit will be shit/unflattering/wrong
But no
'Twas superb
And I've never returned anything yet < empties pockets just lint there nowadays>
Sales there are v. V. Good tho'

Bellebelle · 01/04/2009 22:27

Muffle, just found the code but see that it has already been posted. Really sorry but I don't think it will work for your dress, it is from a mini-catalogue of selected Toast items and your dress isn't there - I've tried it on the checkout page and it doesn't seem to take any money off. Worth looking out for future codes though as Toast do seem to do discounts quite often.

Yurtgirl · 01/04/2009 22:37

I love it but would pay that much for it

They have a discount shop not far from me - I have always felt nowhere near cool enough to go in it though

muffle · 01/04/2009 22:44

Don't worry belle - thanks for checking though.

Yurtgirl - go in! I don't actually think of Toast as cool - a lot of it is plain odd, strange "manly" stuff that looks quirky and cool on a six-foot beautiful model, but would make any normal woman look a bit mad. But like Boden they have the occasional thing I love. They also do great nightwear and swimwear though I wait for the sale for those.

OK so - for anyone still watching this. I ordered it, it arrived and.... it's gone back! Almost feel I have let you all down!

Report for anyone who still fancies it - the length was great, knee length on me and I'm tall, so good coverage. But the neck was a bit too high, and even though I am flat-chested it made me look kind of bulky. Print was nice, but ever so slightly less funky-retro and more hyacinth-bouquet than the pic suggested. Combined with the fabric, which was not shiny silk but that kind of matt-weave very delicate silk, it just had a middle-aged larger-bosomed lady-at-golf-club-dinner vibe to it. Instead of the funky les dawson washerwoman look I was aiming for. Fine line obviously, but a line that was crossed! Good news for my credit card too of course

I really enjoyed this thread though, thanks for the escapist frock chat.

Have given up with Toast. I am not the stick-thin wafty type who their clothes look good on. Had to bin catalogue as it made me so fed up. How much thinner/waftier can those models be?
Grrr.

Mumsfruitandnut · 06/04/2009 11:37

I think we actually need a Topic called 'Escapist Frock Chat'.

muffle · 06/04/2009 11:46

definitely
