..handbag?
If you do, what kind?
Are thye worth it?
If you don't, would you get one if you could afford it, or if someone wanted to buy you one as a gift?

I know a friend of a friend who paid £4K for a Hermes bag

flowerybeanbag · 31/10/2008 19:58

It was

£900

But I do love it ever so much.

Sazisi · 31/10/2008 19:58

Good point re contrast quattro.
I've a bright red coat which might look good with it (it's the marc j klein one in sale sectio - see second link-attempt) but I suppose I won't always have a red coat. And bag must last..

x-post with hf. Clearly mine was a bargain.

'I know a friend of a friend who paid £4K for a Hermes bag '

i reckon that Kelly bag of my aunt's was in that range.

she got a gold Rolex with a diamond bezel out of it, too.

honestfriend · 31/10/2008 19:59

true bargain!

Sazisi · 31/10/2008 19:59

I had a Hermes Kelly bag for one week at the beginning of this year!
DH works in insurance for the rich and famous, one got ever so slightly damaged so was replaced, the company then sell the salvage stock to the office workers.
We bought it for £300 but I felt so uncomfortable even having it in the house, brand new it cost nearly double my car FGS!!
We sold it for £2000 and paid off a credit card (how dull!)

flowerybeanbag · 31/10/2008 20:01

Now I feel all virtuous! I wouldn't dream of spending £4k on a bag, how outrageous!

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:03

i went into the hermes shop in las vegas once.

ooooooo.

it was lush.

Ronaldinhio · 31/10/2008 20:04

swop you a dd for it flowery

(well i do have two.....wheedling unreasonably shallow and envious emoticon)

peanutbutterkid · 31/10/2008 20:08

If you have an expensive handbag, isn't it like a beacon to thieves? "Yoohoo! Here I am, come see what goodies are inside!"

I always feel safest with my money in my pocket. Any kind of handbag is just way too easy to be nicked.

Quattrocento · 31/10/2008 20:12

Tragically, I was once given an expensive but loathsome handbag.

What would you have done:

(a) Ebayed it
(b) Given it away (if so to whom?)
(c) Carried it any way

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:14

well, it depends.

in my circumstances i'd have ebayed it/flogged it.

but if i were a person of means i'd have given it away.

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:16

i would not have carried that white LV bag, though.

naffola.

(apologies to those who think those are cool bags)

Quattrocento · 31/10/2008 20:18

Yes, quite. Horrible isn't it?

I didn't know how to ebay so I gave it away.

flowerybeanbag · 31/10/2008 20:18

Ronald tempting as it would be to have ready-made dd without need for pregnancy or childbirth, think I'll stick with just the one DS + bag, thanks anyway...

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:19

i'd probably have given it to one of my nieces - teenagers.

which model of the bag was it?

Quattrocento · 31/10/2008 20:23

Sorry, linked to the clutches when it was in fact a bag. Alma, I think. Not good.

pardon · 31/10/2008 20:24

i have a mulberry roxanne. i want to marry it. i bought a guitar strap for it (a la alexaa chung) and it looks coooool. but dh bought it for me cos he was sick of me going into a shop and drooling over it and then saying no, i couldn't possibly buy it - it's a rip off.

Sazisi · 31/10/2008 20:25

I saw Jade Goody at Dublin airport with luggage in that LV pattern.
I'm guessing you didn't feel you could ask for the receipt How did you react on being presented with loathsome bag.. did you get gushy from embarrassment? (think I would: oh it's gorgeous!!! I love it!!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:25

oh, yes, in that case, if i were not in need of the funds, i would definitely have given rid of it to a teenage niece.

perfect for them.

'I saw Jade Goody at Dublin airport with luggage in that LV pattern.'

Money doesn't buy class .

I like an LV bag.

But the luggage?

Hmm, I prefer Tumi.
