even though dc hasn't actually arrived yet (overdue),i got an eternity ring for popping out dd (thinking my fanjo was on fire mmight have upped the spend limit on that one!!! ) but as we are officially skint i had mentioned previously to dh jewellery and the like was a no no now for our spending, but today when we were out mooching rould the shops, dh picked out a lovely huge slouchy radley bag, in a sort f pale petrol blue colour with a pale brown mustardy thick soft handle to sit on you shoulder!

Very yummy and i'm very happy with it! But can't have it til dc arrives!

It even came in a nice big boxy bag (not it's fabric protective bag but a radley shopping bag!!!!!
So, what did your dh get you to show their eternal thanks for popping out your dc?

Not a sausage, both times. I didn't really expect him to get me anything, but I was however extremely pissed off when he turns up to take us home with a bottle of bubbly and thank you card for the midwives ( he's made a special trip to the supermarket). He then told me not to bother bringing the lovely bunches of flowers people had bought for me home, and to leave them to brighten up the ward. I thought "Ahh bless, he must have some flowers for me at home". Oh no - just an empty house for me, not a flower in sight! I was a bit disappointed to be honest.

Oh I forgot I also got pate and cheese both times. MIL bought me a bottle of sherry on his advice too as I love sherry and had really missed it. I also got taken out for oysters and bloody steak as they're my fave foods.

a masssosive eternity ring . Missed out on a gift for dd BUT got the ring for ds but I guess because there was such a smallish gap between both its a combined gift.
Im very lucky with dh, he's a good gift buyer .

nothing

HeadFairy · 15/10/2008 16:10

Nothing, but to be fair I said I'd rather he paid off all his credit cards before he started buying jewellery. Perhaps for our tenth anniversary.....

Mercy · 15/10/2008 16:14

I did drop hints about an eternity ring at one stage but he said he'd never heard of them

lilolilmanchester · 15/10/2008 16:18

A pack of maternity towels and a pack of disposable knickers. Very romantic, but far more useful than an eternity ring at the time. 2nd DC - a bunch of carnations at insistence of (and chosen by) DC1 who even at 4 was that his Dad didn't buy me anything when he was born!

VinegARGHHHTits · 15/10/2008 16:21

I got a whole load of stitches in my fanny and a water infection to go with them.

mosschops30 · 15/10/2008 16:31

A selection of crap food that I wanted him to bring in so I didnt have to eat hospital crap (crisps, choccies, curry, magazine, coke etc)
and a tv card so I could watch desparate housewives in my hospital bed.

All was very much appreciated and far more use than a diamond necklace

tonysoprano · 15/10/2008 16:35

sod all, despite the hints. shit head

DH gave me a diamond eternity ring after I had DD1 and a pair of diamond and sapphire ear rings for DD2.

He also bought flowers to the hospital both times and a balloon and huge teddy for the DDs.

I am very spoilt!

I love my DH.

kerryk · 15/10/2008 16:43

dd1-carton of pineapple juice, believe me nothing has ever tasted nicer, unfortunatly i threw it up again 2 secs later.

cant remember his first purchase for me after dd2 but i do remember getting home 3 hours after having her and he made me a cup of tea. yet again nothing had ever tasted nicer and i did not throw up that time

wasabipeanut · 15/10/2008 16:46

A very lovely eternity ring - I am a very lucky lady.

Although I have to say I appreciated the box of stinky cheese & biscuits and half bottle of red he snuck into the hospital almost as much.

kerryk · 15/10/2008 16:47

oh i remember what it was for dd2 now!!!!

he trailed around all the local shops to find me a hot water bottle (after pains from hell, i really thought dd2 must be a twin and aother would pop out)

he managed to track one down. believe me that was a greater present that any tiffany bracelet or similar!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/10/2008 16:47

DD - nothing

DS - nothing

ClosedForCleaning · 15/10/2008 16:49

A savoy cabbage.

expatinscotland · 15/10/2008 16:51

i thought eternity rings were for anniversaries?

PinkChick · 15/10/2008 16:53

yeah an eterntiy ring here too

CatIsSleepy · 15/10/2008 16:55

eternity rings seem to be rewards for having babies in MN-land...(well, parts of it anyway)

actually i forgot -i said i got nothing but dh actually bought me a rubber ring to help me be able to sit down after the birth (it was a Winnie-the Pooh rubber ring)
didn't actually help at all, but it's the thought that counts

ithinkimtallandblonde · 15/10/2008 17:03

A tube of lube and enough contraception for about 2 years .

Guadalupe · 15/10/2008 17:07

DH had loads of time off and heated some rather delicious ready meals and bought tiramisu and cheesecakes and presented them to me on the sofa with wine and chocolates for quite a few weeks.

This was marvellous though a bit habit forming.

edam · 15/10/2008 17:10

When dh bought the eternity ring, I was actually earning more than him. So it wasn't a 'I am the head of the household' thing at all. It was just a present, to say 'wow, we created a whole new person and I'm really glad that I wasn't the shouting FUCK at the top of my voice for nine hours'.

bronze · 15/10/2008 17:11

Nothing but he with the last he had spent the last month bathing me, waiting on me hand and foot and just generally being my rock. I can kind of forgive him for the lack of present though a ring would be lovely I doubt I'll ever get anothe rone.
