Yes, I've done it, thrown out a whole pile of mismatched socks that I can't be arsed to go through and just buying a load of new ones. Socks are a pita.

I throw out all of DS's school socks at the start of a new school year, and buy another ten pairs.

I have done it with my DP's work socks. Threw them all out, all the mangy mismatched vaguely black holey things that they were [disgusted emoticon] and replaced them with 10 identical pairs. That was nearly two years ago. I'm about to start again with 10 new pairs.
