Sheik do you count the washes on a white board - 5 strikes and out?

I have a basket full of odd socks and there is always a bum fight as the kids leave for school to find a pair.

Yes- I did this in August, threw away all socks and replaced. Also ironed on some Stuck On You labels to soles.

notthebubblyseaweed · 21/09/2008 09:41

Marks recently did socks with day printed on sole.

Still rue the day I brought them into ocd household.

Beetroot · 21/09/2008 09:43

I just ignore

moondog · 21/09/2008 09:43

Sort the fuckers the minute they come out of the copper boiler.
Oh, and beat anyone who does not deposit them in the washing basket the minute they come off to within an inch of their lives.

Job done.

If beyond redemption, employ as dusters before shredding and putting in compost or textile recycling place.

Voila! The complete lifecycle of the common or garden sock.

SheikYerbouti · 21/09/2008 09:47

I leave off socks on the tumble drier. I say % washes, but tis probably more. I am not so anal that I tally my washing activities. Thge sock is normally allowed aroun a weeks until it gets used for sock puppetry/dusters

DP's socks are the worst though I find. I have tried leaving them for him to do, but he's fucking useless.

I have a washing basket and a carrier bag full of odd socks. I need to be strong and chuck them. Might do it today. Then again I might not.

ladytophamhatt · 21/09/2008 09:59

The trick is to buy 56,000 pairs of socks that fit the middle boy.

Then small brother has slightly bigger socks, the large brother has slightly smaller socks.

ChippyMinton · 21/09/2008 10:40

What LTH says.
Or buy two different styles - one has plain, the other has ribbed.
And don't have daughters - short white socks, long white socks, grey tights, bottle green tights, plus all the out of school socks, party tights, stripy tights...have had to devote a whole drawer to hosiery!

roisin · 21/09/2008 10:45

Yes, I started from scratch this year.

ds2 had taken to wearing coloured socks to school and odd ones at that (his fashion statement), and ds1 only seemed to ever find ones with holes in, and our feet are all a similar size now.

So (apart from 3 prs of new-ish stripey ones for ds1) I binned all their socks. I bought ds2 10 prs of black ones and ds1 10 prs of grey socks.

M&S socks are fab. And even better my boys wear the same size sock so after washing I share out the socks between them. Odd ones stay in their draws for a few weeks only then head for the bin.

Ds has taken to wearing obviously non-matching socks as some kind of strange fashion statement. So far school have not complained.

Result.

Tortington · 22/09/2008 12:18

yes have done this

i buy all socks the same colour for the boys.

my dd has patterned socks and it is part of her fashion statement at the moment to wear odd and patterend socks - so i guess it means no different.

i think its sometimes more hassle to sort

EffiePerine · 22/09/2008 12:21

I have a bucket full of odd socks. Must just chuck them, but am weedily hoping for spontaneously generated pairs

bundle · 22/09/2008 12:23

we have white iron on labels for this, from one of those MN discount jobbies
