I've realised that I'm quite a trendy/cool mum during the summer but when it starts getting cold I turn into a right FRUMP......I hate it, what can I do/buy to make my winter clothes De-Frump???

Just been on the Joe Browns website and there are some lovely non-frumpy things on there - some nice dresses for about 30 pounds and lots of tunics and cardis.

i find it easier to look good in the winter. all you need is a good coat, good shoes/boots etc, and the rest tends to be covered up anyway. oh, and a hat imo.

ok so where can i find this mythical good coat then? NOT a school run parka but not cashmere - somewhere in between. i need it to be single breasted, fitted and not funnel neck as i am large of nork

oh and preferable not black either

I second the Primark stretch tops, they wsh well and fit rather well too. Good for layering.

Ooooo! Quality of Joe Browns ok. just been ranting about them on another thread. can't afford much but it is my clothes bible. I have there stuff for pressies and special treats...can't think of a good reason that i need a special treat now but working on it as i have the autumn catalogue!!!
i like their stuff cos you can dress it up or down. flirty skirts with layered primark tops, leggings and boots..

Skinny jeans from DPs are really good atm, two for £25.

Then add boots and then nice fitted jumpers. Banana republic has opened here now, and they do some lovely jumpers. I have a couple from there with massive sloppy hoods which look great with jeans and boots.

I think full length skirts with boots look better than shorter ones. I jsut feel frumpy or tarty in shorter ones.

I hate all the dark colours that I'm digging out of my wardrobe, but then a friend suggested primark for some brightly coloured belts to lift outfits.

cycle a lot so skinny jeans out of the question!! thighs like tree trunks.. i like long skirts as well.

i've found cheaper jeans from dp, new look and h&m go baggy and lose their shape over time.

I want to de-frump too! I bought a lovely black and white checked coat from Per Una last year which looks fairly smart, but struggle with jeans and footwear, I get so bored of jeans all the time, with sweaters or t-shirts and cardigans and never know what to wear on my feet, all my boots are flat, as I can't walk in heels - hurts my feet too much. But I never know whether to tuck jeans into kneelength boots or not? Is this fashionable now? Also have fairly chunky calves so not always possible. Can't find nice flat kneelength boots I can afford anywhere, in leather. Any ideas? Also looking for tops for the winter, that aren't going to show my spare tyre, so reasonably long, and v neck or scooped? I tend to shop at Next a lot of the time, or look on Ebay for stuff.

I love autumn/winter colours but also agree I seriously need a decent coat this winter.

White stuff have some brilliant dresses and knitware atm.

Felt I had to post - given my username... . What a great thread. I have ambition to get out of my black work wear, have so far managed to get as far as surprisingly lovely summer skirt from Wallis but in grey/white. Ordered Toast catalogue last year. Spent evenings just dreaming of life in rural Toast land (and sniffing it, particularly nice / odd smell).

Not sure how you feel about ugg boots? but I think they look cool but still relaxd, I might get some...

check out ugg boots but the ones called 'brooks' - they are leather and sheepskin lined - a bit biker-ish - great with skirts or tucked into jeans and not so chavvy or schoolgirly as the ones everyone wears!

Ok, went shopping yesterday.

Bought some new jeans(boyfriend cut) and the fatface skirt I linked don teh thread. Both look cool and trendy are are deffo de-frump me.

I also bought a shrug thing too and 3 plain long sleeved tops to wear under it or whatever.

Now I just need some shoes/boots.

Only truoble is I have titchy feet(size 4) so with my new jeans my feet would disappear underneathe them if I not careful.

What do I wear on my feet then?

I'll look like I'm hovering if I get it wrong....

Boyfriend jeans ace with converse in dry weather or wrangler boots imo.

wilchil64, Duo Boots do great leather boots for all calf sizes. Not cheap but maybe available on ebay?
As for coats, Childrenknowyrlimits, I got a gorgeously soft and snuggly corduroy one from Boden in blue with cheery lining. Also available in green and red. It makes me feel instantly presentable when I throw it over my jeans instead of usual brown anorak thingy. (Boden shd be paying me a commission ! Wish I had the answer for something smartish, warm and waterproof though...
