Style and beauty

I've realised that I'm quite a trendy/cool mum during the summer but when it starts getting cold I turn into a right FRUMP......I hate it, what can I do/buy to make my winter clothes De-Frump???

I mentioned it to SuburbanDryad today and even she aggreed....in a nice way of course

I'm all mumsy and boring.

I want my summer clothes in winter styles.

I'm a bit of a ageing surfer chick style so its not easy.....

i'm with flight attendant on jeans - skinny jeans tucked into boots and then chunky knits, or longer shirt with (dare i say it) funky looking tank top over the top.

although my latest winter purchase is a charcoal wrap cardi so i'm going to look dead boring this season!

I really cannot wear skinny jeans.

Although my legs are massive, the thighs and chins are complete opposites so if I got them to fit the top the bottom would be too baggy and vice versa.

I don't like them anyway regardless of my weirdy legs

no not vice versa. if teh fit atthe bottom I wouldn't get them pass my knees.

I can't do stretchy denim....

i try not to do jeans but if i do i wear a funky shirt with them or tuck them into boots. also a trendy scarf is good.

but mostly i stick to skirts/shorts and tights unless it's snowing or something.

Some flat boots can look quite smart, it depends on what you wear. I find I look frumpy in winter purely because when its cold I want to wear the most comfortable things

The trouble with chunky / long cardies worn as a coat is that it always seems to rain!!

aaagh
I vowed last year that I wouldn't spend this winter wrapped in a grey and shapeless but very warm fleece
It's 8 Sept and our boiler is bust, I'm freezing so I am wearing .... no prizes for guessing
What else can you wear as a top layer indoors without looking like a yeti?

Do you have a decent vest nowire? That's important. Lots of thiner layers are warmer than 1 thick outer one.

Thinner even.

I think autumn is even worse - not cold enough for big coats/cardigans too cold for summer clothes.

How about wide legs jeans with wedge shoes and a chunky knit from Topshop? Or jeans tucked into riding boats and tunic style top. Check out the Oasis and Topshop websites for ideas.

i resisted skinny jeans tucked into boots for years and finally succumbed last autumn - i look better than i thought i would

i also love dark brown for autumn - not as boring as black and charcoal but good and solid! and it's still slimming

Agree about the jeans tucked into jeans...feel and bit contrived at first but generally look good.

Boots and good fitted jackets can work lots of things in winter...

I have 3/4 length jeans that I wear all year round. Flip/flops in summer, boots in winter.

I have just got the Boden urban mac in red. It was only £76 odds with The Times discount.

Someone said on another thread that House of Fraser are selling Frye boots.

Lol Mamag

I used to wear nothing but brown...then one day I realised every piece of knitwear I bought was like a habit. I became concerned that I may have been a monk in a former life.

Gimme that purple and green combo NOW!

Btw have just been wearing skinny jeans with knee boots and did feel dead posh actually. A sensation I am not used to...

what about leggings and boots. You can get them in lots of different colours and if you get good ones with lycra they won't bag and sag.

Nice scarves? Accessorize have great hats in the sale ATM. I think I am the opposite to you and look crappy in the summer or whenever less clothes are required but nobody will help me on the style threads so I will have to carry on looking shit.

Primark have some wool mix belted cardigans (10GBP).

So roll necks (for cold souls like me) nice jeans, boots, cardies.

Then all the above with skirts ? (although I can't quite bring myself to wear tights & slippers )

leggings are just a bit too skinny for me! no matter how good they are you can still see far too much!

will now be spending extra time in front of mirror to make sure i don't look like a turd

must also confess to having bought a pair of fitted 7/8 length jeans to wear with ballet flats this winter

Brown is good for a base colour, brown skirt, brown trousers etc, but brown knitwear with brown base (even if a diferent shade) looks really dull.

I have black and brown 'bases', skirts and trousers, boots in balck and brown and cardis in both colours, but then have pink/purple/red/green, tshirts, jumpers cardis, tank tops and jackets to mix and match.

(I've bought red tartan skirt, and brown pintuck skirt from Boden, a black oasis short A line skirt, also a fab mustard cloured skirt from MandS, I have brown cords, grey skinny jeans and new pair of high waisted wide leg jeans, I'm now buying all the tops to go with these)

Also bought red patent Wedgies and brown cowboy boots.

Coloured tights seem to be in this year and a good way of making a dull outfit more intersting, I've just bought teal and red
tights from MandS.

after being fed up with jeans I have just bought a few dresses, like tea dresses, but empire line due to my 7 month bump, and intend to wear with black or (when feeling brave) coloured tights and boots and a cardi.
