Let's have a round up of this season's possibilities.

I need one; I want one: I'm going to get one. But I am not liking the reports of Boden leakage; and I am not liking at all the Primark one.

I'll start off shall I?

this one only works in black

I quite like this in red but it is too short

parka duffel thingy but quite expensive

that buggy brolly is great
there's your answer wilfsell!

bikerunski · 04/09/2008 10:34

Daaarn it JackieNo you're right, the Pedlar's parka is not waterproof, although i'd hazard a guess it's pretty water resistant.

This one is deffo waterproof though:
patagonia trench but still not cheap!

or these two waterproof down parka and different down parka

My PIL love Land's End and have worn various versions of the Squall jackets for years, for various rural and outdoory activities.

WilfSell · 04/09/2008 11:28

heh heh heh, the buggy brolly is excellent!

Wonder if it works...

Anyhow, have ordered the Lands End stadium squall in black!

Now off to start another coffee-break thread on shoes...

Ooh, am oddly excited even though I don't know you from Adam and won't see you in it!

I'm 99% sold on the Stadium Squall - you do realise that you have a moral obligation to report back as soon as it arrives, don't you?

UpSinceCrapOClock · 04/09/2008 11:57

Also loving the buggy brolly - cept I'm another one who lives in a place that would need a buggy brolly that covers the sides too as protecting a 20cm radius above my head will probably only do just a slightly more than bugger all

No-one has seen a pushchair rain cover that encompasses the person pushing it as well, have they?

florenceuk · 04/09/2008 12:18

My squall parka needs re-proofing - has anybody done theirs and what did you do? It is languishing on the coat hook.

bikerunski · 04/09/2008 14:15

My PIL have both reproofed their squalls, get the stuff that you spray on rather than wash in (Go to Millets or Blacks for wide range of reproofers by Nikwax and Graingers), otherwise you end up waterproofing the fleece inside too. And as with any breathable waterproof fabric, you need to give it a cool iron or tumble dry after you wash it.

LaTrucha · 04/09/2008 15:00

Anyone seen an ageing lady with calf-length mackintosh, collar turned up, and a little plastic headscarf and thought, 'That's a bloody good idea'?

brimfull · 04/09/2008 15:13

cheaper if you can get it from the US

suggy · 04/09/2008 20:53

Am also sold on Lands end idea. How do they fit ? Am a 10/12 normally, but long arms so depending on the fit sometimes have to go up a size. Would those in the know recommend a small or medium ?

hettie · 04/09/2008 21:21

ahha I may have a challenger to the squall.... how about this north face jacket

ticks all the boxes and a choice of four colours- you can get in the UK too

bikerunski · 04/09/2008 22:29

Land's End sizes are huge! I always have to go down a size (or two), even in shoes, even accounting for US to UK conversion.

WilfSell · 04/09/2008 22:33

Ah hettie, someone posted that one earlier - looks good but apparently it packs down very small - which is good in some circs but someone was worried it wouldn't be too warm...

Thanks for this thread! Have just ordered the Lands End Stadium Squall in black -to be delivered to Budapest so it will be interesting to see if and when it gets here.

Glad they are big sizing bikerunski - am a 22/24 so just ordered the UK XL as the plus size (hate that phrase!) 1X says it's a 24/26.

Was also tempted by this in the pink and this! Thought DH might not be to impressed though!

Bridie3 · 05/09/2008 15:19

Have you tried the virtual model on the US Landsend? You can create yourself. It's really good fun, though I realise that I am lot bigger in the squall jacket than I thought I would be, despite not being overweight. Hmmn.

Clayhead · 05/09/2008 20:25

I loved the look of this but (being a bit thick here) where can you get it in the UK?

florenceuk · 06/09/2008 18:07

i've found it here only in white though

TabbedBrowser · 06/09/2008 18:13

i saw a woman in a really cool ankrak type hting the other day
was large white spots on a black backgroud but together enough to looke Kieley esque

JackieNo · 08/09/2008 16:27

Well I've had through my Lands End City Squall jacket and parka (ordered both, as not sure either would arrive - low stock apparently). The parka is just too big - I'm not tall, and it just swamps me a bit. The jacket's better. I think I'm probably going to keep it. I don't really love it though. But I think it'll do for a smart-ish autumn/winter jacket.

Buda · 10/09/2008 09:34

My Lands End Stadium Squall arrived. It fits. It's OK. Nothing exciting about it but it will do for really cold weather.

Am thinking of ordering something else now!
