Let's have a round up of this season's possibilities.

I need one; I want one: I'm going to get one. But I am not liking the reports of Boden leakage; and I am not liking at all the Primark one.

I'll start off shall I?

this one only works in black

I quite like this in red but it is too short

parka duffel thingy but quite expensive

OMG - definitely not an old style one!! I have this one in dark brown and it was half price.

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:39

not bad to buy that
it's nice
I like this so ££££
no hood sorry

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:41

this doesn't look barbourish,he need never know

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:41

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 16:41

This Boden one is showerproof, but no hood. Looks quite nice though.

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 16:45

I like this too but is it waterproof?

Just had an email from Landsend - this is on special offer, no hood, and the fur comes off if you don't fancy it. I'm quite tempted...

brimfull · 03/09/2008 17:10

jackie-I got that last yr in brown, noticed they haven't got t on site this yr.

Tis very warm and really waterproof

brimfull · 03/09/2008 17:12

with fur collar off it looks a bit bikerish

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 17:13

Well I've just ordered the parka version in black (no brown available in my size) and the jacket version in brown. But both low stock, so who knows what I'll get. Maybe neither. If both, I'll only keep one.

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 17:14

yes ggirl - that's what I reckoned. Worth a try.

cremolafoam · 03/09/2008 17:27

i can't believe we all still "making do"
Has no-one heard our pleas for something fabulous in the raincoat domain.
I have the summer weight Boden Mac in red.I love it but there is no warmth in it.And the winter ones leak.WTF?

This debate has been going on for YEARS

and we're still looking at Barbours

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 17:29

Perhaps we should design our own and get MNTowers to manufacture it?

I guess we'd all agree on what we like, huh?

OP posts:
cremolafoam · 03/09/2008 17:33

was a thread to that effect hmmmmmmmmm
last year

oh and the year before.
it goes on and on

brimfull · 03/09/2008 17:33

french connection,?waterproof though

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 17:34

Here's the wish list:

  1. Must be long enough to cover arse and prevent wet thighs
  1. Must be properly waterproof
  1. Must have a hood
  1. Must come in a range of colour options and print/plain options if Boden
  1. Must be light but warm (packability/foldability and removable warm liners optional but these could add to its value)
  1. Must not make one look like a Russian bodybuilder, a teenager with a Croydon facelift (I DO NOT approve of shorty bomber jackets with fur lined hoods and fur pompoms) or the Michelin man. Ought to have a waist (poss adjustable) but be roomy enough to skim (in a fitted but not tight way) fat arses, post-baby bellies and swinging norks (we have children...)

If not slightly waisted, a well cut swingy (from armpits) or empire-line will do...

  1. Must have some decent sized pockets (for spare apples, gloves, cereal bar, phone, keys) but must not look like a builder's tool belt.
  1. Hood must be roomy enough, pull forward enough...
