Let's have a round up of this season's possibilities.

I need one; I want one: I'm going to get one. But I am not liking the reports of Boden leakage; and I am not liking at all the Primark one.

I'll start off shall I?

this one only works in black

I quite like this in red but it is too short

parka duffel thingy but quite expensive

Take it out on the shops mate, not us.

i have ordered this but not recieved yet so not sure how it looks in person. i really wanted a navy one but been stuggling to find one.

bikerunski · 03/09/2008 18:28

Is this the Holy Grail, still £££, but less so.

pedlars' parka

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 18:33

bikerunski, I've seen the Pedlars one too, but I don't think it's waterproof, is it?

brimfull · 03/09/2008 19:18

bettybeetroot-that trench is lovely ,is it really waterproof?

Shortcircuit · 03/09/2008 19:25

I've been looking since April with no joy other than quite liking the Hawkshead one, BUT it's too short.

My fav at the mo is this Stadium squall"

  • ticks the boxes - long, hood, looks ok.
brimfull · 03/09/2008 19:27

lands end is great quality I have city squall jackie linked to

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 19:48

ooh like the stadium squall, thanks! Looks like it could be nicely neutral (ie will work with workwear or casual stuff)

Is the city squall fully waterproof ggirl?

OP posts:
WilfSell · 03/09/2008 19:52

Pedlars one is nice but not quite enough shape for my blobby shapeless body...

Lands End still winning for me...

OP posts:
brimfull · 03/09/2008 19:52

yes it really is

it is warm-I wear it in the winter

brimfull · 03/09/2008 19:53

miffed that it's half price now

bettybeetroot · 03/09/2008 20:11

ggirl - i'm hoping it is waterproof - aigle do outdoor wear so i think it will be good. i have their wellies which are the best and MOST comfy ever! my main concern were the checks so I rang to ask what kind of check (didn't want burberry style!) and it is quite a large square subtle check (apparently!)

brimfull · 03/09/2008 20:13

oh didn't realise it was aigle

UpSinceCrapOClock · 03/09/2008 20:15

I love MN. Have also been hunting for a winter coat and have almost the same boxes to tick as Wilf.

Was really keen on this until I saw on another site a review that says it will pack down to the size of a large mobile phone. So not exactly a winter coat then

Am now completely in love with the Land's End Stadium Squall.

Have never bought from Land's End before (vague memories of my mum shopping from there years ago) - is it really reasonable quality still?

Shortcircuit - you may just have found my winter coat!

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 20:21

that northface one is good though - could be a good autumn/spring coat if it packs away

OP posts:
UpSinceCrapOClock · 03/09/2008 20:30

Definitely - but it aint cheap and I have to prioritise the winter coat what with living in the arse end of Northern Europe and all (ok, not really arse end but it bloody feels like it at times!)

chunglimum · 03/09/2008 20:43

Wtf are princess seams?

I too am loving this thread, thanks for all the trawling. I really liked the squall until I looked at the size chart - up to 5' 7". Looks like it's this www.longtallsally.com/productkit.aspx?CurrentCategory=home%7cjacketscoats&ProdId=09R07&Clr=KHA for me after all. Please tell me it's not too hideous..?

Piffle · 03/09/2008 20:48

get a nice coat and buy a bloody umbrella!
Am eyein up boston boden jacket as under umbrella garment...

LaTrucha · 03/09/2008 21:07

Piffle - you obviously don't live in windy West Wales!

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 21:08

if someone's invented an umbrella clip for a pushchair that idea works piffle. If not, I'm afraid it has gotta be a hood...

Or a rain hat. That's interesting. Not like one of those plastic bags my granny used to wear over her 'wave' presumably?

something more glamorous? Where are rain hats?

OP posts:
dairymoo · 03/09/2008 21:22

When I was younger my mum always used to Scotchguard our coats and trainers to make them waterproof...might be worth a go if you have a coat you like but it's a bit leaky??

Piffle · 03/09/2008 21:33

here buggy brolliez

I used to live in the windiest city in da world actually but since moving to the flattest fen region of south Lincs had forgotten brolly wind issues

In my HO ski jacket
Not pretty but does what it says on the tin and when you have it on,all the fashion ponces glare at you in thinly disguised jealousy
Style vs practicality
And given the UK climate
No brainer!
