I have returned part of my latest order- new catologue.

I wrote a review of a couple of things but they are not upon the site yet- but there is a glowing review of the spotty coat that I thought was crap.

Do you think old Johnnie makes up a few reviews?

fizzbuzz- which things in particular do you not rate due to quality ( cringing in case I have bought some.)

I bought a shirt a year or so ago.

I used to work in the clothing industry, and know a lot about fabrics, printing etc

The shirt was the cheapest type of cotton available (know as cotton sheeting), and the print smelt of yacky cheap factories.

Cardigan came undone at neck and bagged. 3 t shirts did the getting shorter and wider in the wash.

They all smell of the horrid cheap factories I used to have to go in. This is not a smell you get in places like M and S or Principles or whatever. But you do get it in Primark.

Nuff said

Am glad you've said about using the free returns on sale stuff.

I was just about to do so and was feeling a little guilty but will do so now.

girlnextdoor · 12/08/2008 22:23

that's interesting- I wondered why lots of the stuff had an odd smell- they never used to say where the garments were made- not sure if the latest garments do ( is it a legal requirement?) but wondered if they came from a sweat shop?

OP posts:
traceybath · 12/08/2008 22:25

I think they've actually got a little frumpier.

I liked last year's slim fit jeans but ordered the straight leg this time and they're so frumpy.

Bring back slim legs please johnny.

fizzbuzz · 12/08/2008 22:27

No not a legal requirement, so it is very telling that they don't put it in garments when nearly everyone else does.

Must be hiding something, so judging by smell I would think they do come from a sweatshop. Most clothes do but some factories are better than other

I regularly get a free returns label in with my Red magazine which I get on subscription. I wasn't sure if I could use it recently on my first Boden order for ages which was sale stuff but the address was the same as on the return label they sent me which I'd have had to put postage on and I checked with the post office who said it was fine and would be tracked also so no worries.

Have holidayed in Boden-upon-sea this summer, surrounded by children in stripey clam-diggers & am still glare-dazzled by the lime coloured jeans.

fayeso · 15/08/2008 06:45

I have just received my cardigan from the new catalogue-poor quality isn't the word to describe their stock-i would use a slightly stronger word with 4 letters!

My cardigan did not look right on me and my friend and i spent ages trying to work out why-

Anyway we discovered one of the front sides of the cardigan was more than an inch shorter than the other! This wasn't a cheap cardy either...£75.00 might i add!!!

Boden brochure now in recycling bin!!Good riddance to bad rubbish....

I am really dissapointed.

rainbowface · 15/08/2008 09:37

Which cardi was it??

cloudberry · 15/08/2008 11:12

I've just gone onto their website and all the reviews have disappeared. Anyone found this? How strange!

joliejolie · 15/08/2008 11:33

I just received my cord coat and apart from the colour being a little more blah in person, I love it! It is really flattering on my curvy body and I think it will be warm enough for a London winter.

I do agree there is plenty to moan about. The cardigans can be shapeless and really don't wash well and the t-shirt tops are too short and overall crap. I stopped ordering the t-shirts at all because of this!

This coat is really nice though....

joliejolie · 15/08/2008 11:44

Quality like Primark???
I think not. I bought a top at Primark that I wore once because it washed so badly and the material left a lot to be desired.

Sorry, but I also don't agree with the cheap cotton statement. I worked in the industry and I cetainly know cheap cotton (as sold by Primark) and it is not the best, but certainly not cheap. Just have a look at some of the cheaper shops to see this is true. They do sometimes use thinner cottons, but they are not always cheap, especially as some contain lycra. They don't always wash particularly well and I have learned to not buy some of their products because I know they wont last. But I never get more that two or three washes from a Primark t-shirt.

Not trying to big up Boden, but be fair. Primark is Primark. Cheep and cheerful, but you wont own the clothes for years. I have a cardigan from Boden that I bought five years ago and it still looks good!

Boden is as quality as Gap, but they do need to bring their prices down to the level of Gap.

Having said all of that, I cannot fathom why Boden is so successful in the States. The prices are almost twice what they are here (in dollars, of course!)!!

girlnextdoor · 15/08/2008 14:42

Just to defend them a bit too- I am still wearing a long sleeved T shirt that i got from them in the sale about 5 years back- it is quite thick cotton- and it has washed and washed great.
I def. don't find the tops too short but being 5 3" maybe you are all taller?

still think they are too expensive- how can they justify £59 for moleskin jeans etc? I do have some, but only buy when in sale of 20% off.

HI rainbowface-it was the chic textured cardigan in black with the grey edging on pockets and cuffs.

Absolutely apalling as far as I am concerned-its not the first item that has been utterley rubbish either.

rainbowface · 18/08/2008 21:49

Cant believe one side of the cardigan was shorter than the other - what are they playing at!! Boden used to be really nice quality a couple of years back. They are obviously cutting corners now - maybe increasing profit margins or something?! Sort it out Johnnie, stop taking the mickey out of your customers (I still like the kids stuff tho..)
