moan about Boden

I have returned part of my latest order- new catologue.

I wrote a review of a couple of things but they are not upon the site yet- but there is a glowing review of the spotty coat that I thought was crap.

Do you think old Johnnie makes up a few reviews?

Agree about thinness of fabric - I ordered a couple of summer skirts last year and they were tres flimsy and not worth the £50-odd they were charging. Went back.

Boden is very hit and miss but good for the odd thing.

I ordered a pewter belt from there too adn when it arrived all the pewter 'leaf' or whatever was all rubbing off. Crappola. Went back.

lulumama · 02/08/2008 14:00

mind you , i do like this cardi and the funky dalmation print wedges don;t thikn my bank manager will agree, however!

girlnextdoor · 02/08/2008 14:04

I got 20% off cos that was an offer if you ordered ages ago- June I think- got an email with the offer.

My personal opinion is that Boden has one or tow nice-ish things but not as many as before- or maybe I have just got trendier!

They are all grossly over-priced and I never buy unless a good discount or in sale.

I got the swishy skirt for £16-it is okay but no-way would I have paid £££ for it- I am still not sure if i really like it- watch Ebay! it's the green fruit salad one.

One thing that I do like are their trousers, as they fit and don't have really low rises, which are no good for me even though i am just a size 10.

I think Hobbs is frumpy- I can't stand all those circles and bright colours they bring out every season, and they are grossly over priced.

My fave shops are Jigsaw and kew.

I'd get these if I had an office job but price is ridiculous

not a patch on my Dune black patent boots from last year that wre only £100

mylovelymonster · 02/08/2008 14:10

agree, gobbi, some of Hobbs stuff has got frumpy but some bits are just lovely and chic and girly. Good thing is that not all stuff in sale is crap, unlike some sales. I've looked at FennWrightManson, LKBennett, and Jigsaw this year and nothing was remotely interesting.

Sorry, lulu. I wouldn't pay that price for either of those items...

lulumama · 02/08/2008 14:18

no, i agree , i think they are overpriced!

I just think that there's better stuff available for the same price or less. Yes, some Boden things are nice but I don't want to have to order the whole catalogue and then send 90% of it back in order to find the decent stuff. And the quality has gone down drastically in the last 3 or 4 years.

girlnextdoor · 02/08/2008 14:47

malory get with it on the page where you see the item, there is a small line of text above the stock levels and sizes saying "Look at reviews" or Write a review" and there is a row of stars showing latest "score".

Gobbi is rather apt actually!

It's takes more than that to cause me offence!

dexter73 · 02/08/2008 18:19

I ordered this shirt and it is going straight back! When I took it out of the box my dd said 'it's a clown shirt' and my dh said 'it's an auntie mabel shirt'. Neither of these were the look I was going for!!

mylovelymonster · 02/08/2008 18:24

do they do free delivery & returns? I do hope so...........

Wuxiapian · 03/08/2008 14:41

No free delivery or returns on sale items, mylovely, only full price orders.

filthymindedvixen · 03/08/2008 14:44

I ordered black linen drawstring trews from the sale bit - anyone got a pair? Am I doomed to disappointment?

SorenLorensen · 03/08/2008 15:15

I have given up Boden as my expensive winter coat wore out after less than a year - great big hole wore in the lining - it just disintegrated. They did pay to have it repaired - though that entailed a lot of faffing about - various phone calls/emails, taking it to get a quote for a repair, having to find fabric that was a close match for the lining, taking it back with fabric to be repaired, then collecting it - and posting the receipt for the repair and the fabric to Boden. I'd justified the expense (£135) - more than I have ever spent on a coat - by reckoning it would be good quality and last a long time. Even the outer wool of the coat looks bobbly and it hasn't kept its shape well - nope, I am done with Boden.

WideWebWitch · 04/08/2008 07:53

Just came back to this thread to mention that I noticed yesterday that ds's Boden t shirt, which has hardly been worn, it's got a lobster on it, is frayed at the bottom, which is rubbish imo. His Gap and Asda t shirts (which I know are made by children for children, realise it's not a good choice ethically) have lasted much better.

girlnextdoor · 04/08/2008 08:42

soren- in defence of Boden this time- if the coat had lots of acrylic in it, it may well bobble. I have a coat that I love- tweedy effect- not from Boden, which has bobbled.
With respect, £135 is pretty cheap for a coat now a days- you can easily spend £250-£300 on something from Hobbs, LK Bennett etc etc.
