I have returned part of my latest order- new catologue.

I wrote a review of a couple of things but they are not upon the site yet- but there is a glowing review of the spotty coat that I thought was crap.

Do you think old Johnnie makes up a few reviews?

OooooHH!!! Are you waiting for your moment?!

I am like that. Things arrive and sit there till children go away and I can indulge.

Same colour boots, too - they were cheaper!!

Going to look at your other things, back in a bit...

Flightputsonahat · 04/08/2008 19:28

Wow...I wish I'd ordered the necklaces, they're gorgeous!
Love the green cardi too.

Hmm will see if they have any left in the shop when I go to collect

mousemole · 05/08/2008 12:51

Oh sorry to say but Johnny is long gone for me. Now it is JOULES ! I love love their stuff and the sale was really good.

Never bought anything from there..had a look at website for first time yesterday and could not pick one item that wasn´t extremely mumsy..

Overrated

Cappuccino · 05/08/2008 14:10

oh me and my mother laughed and laughed

"this dress will banish any outlandish ideas that everyone else is having a better time than you"

oh it is a magic dress

god I hate it I hate it the smuggery

bikerunski · 05/08/2008 14:16

Oooh, I got the velvet coat last year and LOVE it. Everyone loves it, and it is still going strong.

well I hated the velvet coat- I sent it back- too tight across the bust and too big everywhere else-and I am a size 8-10.

I find it odd the way that Johnnie is calling jackets "coats" this year- anyone notice this? the velvet "coat" is a jacket!!!

MyLovelyMonster - did you get your things???

I have just returned from Hobbs with what can only be described as loooooovely things.

The coat first of all was a flop - it had very long sleeves for some reason (I am Mrs Lanky but they covered half my hands!) and also was too big all over - I ordered a 12 - so their sizes are pretty big I think. I didn't like the material much - very shiny and monotone, lining the same - so it was a no. Also the single breasted thing made me look like a pin

BUT...the dress is fantastic...rreally wearable, nice length, simple and practical.
I loved it immediately and I don't often with clothes.

The tab jumper in black was a bit flimsy but only £15, looked like it'd go with anything and is 100% wool so I was persuaded to take it home...might go back if a bad fit though.

Boots, what can I say? Beautiful, really nice, dark red leather (not brownish as on website) and a good fit - long rather than wide though. Wide round the calf as well but not too bad, I'm a 33ish calf. The width at the top should balance a skirt iyswim.

(Might still go for Duos though, am keeping receipt!)

And I saw the wother of pearl necklace in the shop reduced to £19, and it was so beautiful I got it (first proper necklace!) as it is really heavy and just gorgeous.

Big smiles here. Though I think they suspected I wasn't really posh when I kept refusing their suggestions..'this mac is a key piece'...'is it in the sale?'...'No but it will look fantastic'...'No ta then duck'

Fanlight · 12/08/2008 15:37

wother of pearl, sounds nice, you know what I mean!

KatieDD · 12/08/2008 16:18

The kids stuff is ok, I've never bought anything for myself, I'd feel too old in it.

Bobbiewickham · 12/08/2008 16:35

Well, I ordered loads of things, and they're all lovely except the corduroy coat, which made me look like Paddington.

The dotty flower skirt in dark orange is particularly fab.

Well, I think so, anyway...

fizzbuzz · 12/08/2008 19:05

I want those spotty dalmation wedges as well....but that cardigan with the scottie dog on Would a grown women wear that?

Also think Boden is naff, overrated and mumsy.
Cannot stand the silly little descriptions with each item and the models' poncey names, also think Jonnie Boden sounds like a bit of a tosser...
Have ordered a few things in the past and nearly all of it went back.
Their kids clothes do look quite cool but think they are too pricey and prefer to buy in shops where I can see/feel the quality and take things back easily.

girlnextdoor · 12/08/2008 20:42

In defence of Boden...they do get orders out quickly and refund quickly. Some mail order cos. wait ages before processing returns so you end up paying for the items, then have to wait another month to see the refund on your card.

Some things are mumsy, but I still rate their smart trousers- it is very hard to find wool trousers anywhere for that kind of price.

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 12/08/2008 20:45

What really pisses me off about Boden is the fact you have to pay for returns

notasheep · 12/08/2008 20:52

I agree with mousemole JOULES rules now

SoupDragon · 12/08/2008 20:55

I only ever buy Boden in the sale, otherwise it's overpriced.

SoupDragon · 12/08/2008 20:56

They do have free returns offers now and then. You can keep the free returns label if you don't return that stuff and use it later. Even for sale stuff.

I did actually buy a full priced (well x% off offer) rain coat and got a free returns label which I then used to return a huge box of sale stuff which I'd ordered in 2 sizes to check the fit!

girlnextdoor · 12/08/2008 21:02

doesn't the offer for MNs always give free delivery and free returns?

It does at the moment!

I never buy unless it is a free returns offer.
They also have offers every few weeks with up to 20% off...having said that, they are expensive- I think they are pitching themselves alongside Hobbs and Jigsaw in terms of price- but not close to Jigsaw in terms of fashionable appeal.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 12/08/2008 21:06

Not for Sale stuff.

a friend of mine has a good stock of free returns labels to use when there isn't a free returns offer

fizzbuzz · 12/08/2008 21:27

Yes they are pitching themselves there, but why is quality so crap?

Some of it is really really shit...Primark have some better quality items than them
