How long would you wear clothes for? I only wear tops once before wash, unless I'd only wore them for a short time and hadn't spilt stuff on it or sweated . But I would wear my jeans for ,erm, longer .

Actually I bet it is pretty bad for the environment if everyone is washing clothes after just one wash every time. All that wash powder and electricity to start with.

PinkTulips · 15/07/2008 19:48

coco, no, i just get bored looking the same every day. i dress according to mood every morning.

when i take clothes off they either go in the laundry if dirty or into my pile next to the bed if re-wearable.

thingone, by refusing to let them touch me til they're cleaned.... tis a very loving moment when ds is covered in food and says 'wanna hug mama' and i reply 'oh god no, not til i wipe you down mister'

my kids need clean clothes daily alright but even with them the odd time they manage not to get something dirty it gets reworn.

BirdyArms · 15/07/2008 20:55

Until it looks dirty for everything except pants and socks. I do think I sometimes wear my bras a bit too long , I don't wear them for consecutive days so kind of lose track.

Ds2 has the snottiest nose known to man and is a very cuddly child so in fact I end up washing things after one or 2 wears but I feel slightly miffed if I have to wash after one wear.

triffictits · 15/07/2008 22:05

i wear clothes once then they are washed. I cant wear anything twice that has been next to my skin - whether it is dirty or not.

I have to wear suits for work and I rotate 4 of them - they are dry cleaned every other week, so after 2 or 3 wears.

Long hair and i shower, wash hair, blow dry it and straighten it every morning! really wish i could leave my hair but even when i try i end up washing it half way through the day because it feels dirty.

Dottydot · 15/07/2008 22:08

good grief you lot must have lots of clothes to be able to wash everything after just one wear..!

I wash me every morning - shower and wash hair.

Undies every day, of course, but everything else as and when. Big stain = in the wash. Small stains/no stains = when I can't remember the last time I washed it!

IdrisTheDragon · 15/07/2008 22:17

I change my knickers every day, and change socks/tights evry day when I am wearing them.

Everything else gets as much use as possible out of it.

And I quite often wear the same outfit twice in a row.

And yet I still always seem to be washing....

Dropdeadfred · 15/07/2008 23:27

I am glad to know that I am not that weird or unusual andf that others do understand my need for clean clean clothes every day

triffictits · 16/07/2008 20:28

I understand completely Dropdeadfred

I am a little obsessed with it myself

taipo · 16/07/2008 20:39

once for knickers
once or twice for socks
3-4 days for bras
2 days for tops
5-6 days for jeans

EffiePerine · 16/07/2008 20:43

tops, knickers, some trousers once

skirts, jeans 2-3 times

bras twice, maybe three times if needed

I find commuting + toddler when I get home means things get dirty pretty quickly.

margoandjerry · 16/07/2008 20:52

Am amazed at all the washing you're all doing.

Underwear once, everything else worn till it is dirty so two/three wears unless toddler has intervened. Next to skin is not dirty as I shower every day and sit in an air con office and don't work as a navvy.

The only exception would be work shirts which look better recently laundered but I don't wear anything that needs ironing so they are a rarity.

Don't use fabric conditioner - I consider it the essence of capitalist decadence . An entirely pointless product invented to create a market which then gets deemed an essential.

You are not alone Dropdeadfred!! Am the same as DDF, wear once then wash.

It's not just the dirt you can see, something that you have worn close to your skin for 18hours is not necessarily still clean, just because it doesn't have obvious snot/earth/paint on it. Also even if you are not sweating cobs you will still be perspiring to some degree, or you are seriously ill and a medical mystery!

Plus the second wearing of a top isn't as good, the material goes a bit baggy at the elbows etc and its not as crisp and fresh. There's a small luxury in wearing clean fresh clothes every day and I like it.

At least I don't change into a "home" outfit after work (just put pj's/dressing gown on), only use Ecover (no need for heavy duty biological , wash on 30 degrees and never use a tumble drier - hang everything up to air dry. So it doesn't have to be that environmentally unfriendly.

margoandjerry · 16/07/2008 21:07

well agree that it's not sterile clean but it doesn't need to be.

I really don't like washing clothes too often because although they often go back into shape, they get worn out quicker imho.

Dropdeadfred · 17/07/2008 10:37

use fabric conditioner then they last longer

Bumperlicious · 17/07/2008 10:44

I'm a bit of a slattern, I wash things when they look/smell dirty. I lose count of how many times I wear my jeans before washing. Also as I am still in nursing bras and only have a couple that actually fit comfortably I wear them more times than I should .

Obviously I wash knickers after 1 wear but I have been know to rewear socks - usually because I can never find a clean matching pair!

DH, on the other hand, creates a washing mountain.

Jewelsandgems · 17/07/2008 13:02

For DHs shirts I send them out to be laundered and pressed so just 1 wear.

For me, tops generally 1 wear because of babysick but agree if it is a top worn on top of another top, I will put it back in the wardrobe.

Anything silk goes to be dry cleaned at same place as DHs shirts, so they are worn once then put to one side for cleaning.

Undies just 1 wash and sometimes, if I am going out, 2 pairs a day (or if I shower in middle of day, new pair on)

Jeans though I wear for ages (rotate between skinnies, wide legged, boyfriend, normal bootleg) but the minute any babysick on them that is not baby-wipe-able off, they are in the wash (and now we are giving solids, that carrot does stain!)

Bras every few days but does depend on what top Iam wearing.

Do use fabric softener (comfort creme) but do not tumble dry, always air dry.

beansontoast · 17/07/2008 18:02

monkeytrews....you and me both!..all your posts were posts i could have written.(prob not as amAZing as i think it is,granted..)

filthymindedvixen · 17/07/2008 18:04

If I am wearing a white top, you can guarantee I will spill something bolognaise sauce coloured on it within 3 mins of putting it on

filthymindedvixen · 17/07/2008 18:06

we don't do fabric conditioner here, everyone on my family seems to get itchy rashy, no matter which brand so we don't buy it.

IHadABetterNameButYouStoleIt · 17/07/2008 18:08

tops once, jeans/shorts two days then usually washed overnight and dry for the next day! undies once and i dont wear socks!!

actually i have had the same pair of shorts on for nearly two weeks now!! lol! they do get washed though but im sure people must think i have no other clothes!!

flubdub · 17/07/2008 18:27

Exactly the same as Cali!

babyelephant · 17/07/2008 19:53

Filthymindedvixen, you've probably already tried it but I can recommend Fairy non-bio tablets and conditioner for avoiding the itchy scratchy - I used to itch and sneeze terribly from using other brands but never had that with Fairy.
