I am useless with make up - if I post a pic of my colouring can you help me?

I am crap with make up basically!

I am also very underconfident with my looks. I am thinking of trying mineral foundation and have no idea what shade - everytime i go into the department stores they advise me and I end up feeling its wrong.

I have oily skin so wondered if mineral foundation would suit me.

But....biggest prob is eyes - mine are blue, so what colour shadow should i use and how do i do it so it looks good. I've watched all the videos and still cant do it.

I have a do to go to soon (the ball i have bored you all about) i want my hair curled and want then want my make up to look good but have no idea.

I'll post a pic of me, but bare with me - I hate photos, its the only one i have on pc and I have NEVER posted one of me on here before. And believe me, I'm no oil painting. Please be gentle.

You need to define ypur colour first.
What suits you best white or cream?
If white you need cool colours for lippy/eyeshadow (ie with lots of blue in them)

If cream you need warm colours (lots of orange) in them. You can get away with other eye colours not in your colouring, but not lipstick. Blue eyeshadow looks good on blue eyes, but if you really want to emphasise th blue, go for an apricoty colour, as orang is opposite colour to blue and will really bring the blue out

Know nothing about foundation...

triffictits · 02/07/2008 21:24

thanks fizzbuzz - i have no idea if white suits me better than cream.

I'll post my pic and tell me what you think. Had never ever considered apricoty. What colour lipstick do you think?

I usually always wear brown/beige on my eyes but dont think its the best colour

ok, pic on my profile in a mo

Look in mirror with no make up, and hair back.

Put something white in front of you under your neck (paper, clothes, anything)

Ditto cream. One will make you look better, and one will make you look drained. It takes 2 minutes.

If brown doesn't suit you on your eyes you probably need blue or green or grey.

For years I tried all that stuff, about brown eyeshadow and looking natural. Brown makes me look like death, it took me years to realise it

triffictits · 02/07/2008 21:37

yes i always used brown because I was always told brown/beige is good with blue eyes - i dont think its great to be honest.

I am liking the apricot idea!

My hair is a bit more layered around my face now shitemum - i am going to have it curled for the party. Thank you for the compliment though - very nice of you.

What colour suits you best?

triffictits · 02/07/2008 21:51

no idea fizzbuzz - I wear all colours really - the dress i have for the party is a deep red colour.

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 02/07/2008 22:11

But some colours must suit you better than others? What does black do to you?

triffictits · 02/07/2008 22:13

black is ok on me. I think that grey does drain me a bit. I wear beige a lot and blue too.

OP posts:
winestein · 02/07/2008 22:18

Looking at you I wold say you suited white better, but you look as if you have been on your hols. Nevertheless I couldn;t see you in cream but I can white - so I think you are a "winter" colour person (like me!). You need to choose "cold colours". The best example I can think of is a colour I would never wear but it brought it home to me - yellow. You couldn't wear sunshine yellow but you would look great in acid yellow. As fizzbuzz suggests, look for the sahdes of colours with blue in them rather than orange.

I look like death in beige or cream or any variant. Step away from the beige!

fizzbuzz · 02/07/2008 22:19

Well if grey drains you, then you must have warm colouring, so you need things like which have an orangey/yellowy colour, like coral, peach, scarlet, and ...erm..brown

triffictits · 02/07/2008 22:21

fizzbuzz, why the [frowns] after ever post?

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 02/07/2008 22:21

Yes beige is a killer...I think you look like you would suit white best...which means you would need bluey coours like crimson/green/grey/pink/blue.

If you can just sort out whether white or cream suit you best then we may get somewhere!

Or what jewellry suits you best, gold or silver?

winestein · 02/07/2008 22:22

Ah - but grey generally drains me too (and I mos definitely am a winter colour). It has to be a very dark grey to suit me, and even then I have to compensate with make-up.

winestein · 02/07/2008 22:23

Fizz - I'm looking at the jewellery ont he photo and seeing gold - but wanting to see silver!

PS... Triffic is often used as hmmm as in "considering"

triffictits · 02/07/2008 22:24

yes i had just come back off hols then winestein, so was a bit tanned. I have got a bit of colour now too as I've just come back off hols again.

OP posts:
triffictits · 02/07/2008 22:26

ok just had a look - i agree its white, but i do wear gold jewellery rather than silver - maybe i have the combination wrong.

So what colour lippy do you suggest?

Sorry fizzbuzz if you mean hmmmmmm by your [frown] I just thought i was annoying you with my crapiness.

OP posts:
winestein · 02/07/2008 22:30

I use a l'oreal foundation - all of their range come in warm colours and cold colours. I think the odd numbers are cold and the evens are warm (or vice versa!). I use the lightest in a cold colour. Any consultant worth their salt would be able to tell you what you are - but go with your instinct as I totally ignored the last one and went with what I felt was right - and I was right as I knew my skin in daylight as opposed to the electric light. Go and ask for samples of the right shade in the two different tones. Then you will know

winestein · 02/07/2008 22:33

Once you "get" this, you can wear any colour... so long as the tone is cold and not warm. (I really am convinced you are a cold tone person, can you tell!)

If it looks orange, run, but you can wear strawberry any day of the week.
