Another Mother of the bride......

My daughter is having her civil ceremony on Easter Sunday in London next year. I've bought this Roksanda Maite dress to wear but I'm not sure about accessories with it being such a dramatic dress.
Will I need a coat? I definitely want a hat but what type? I do favour a large hat!
I'm a size 12/14 depending on the cut/ style. Budget is quite flexible.

Ooh I’d keep the accessories light with a dress like that and let the hat do the talking so to speak.

maybe some really sparkly earrings. Or a similar bangle. rose gold tone would be the best match I think.

Hat go for a bold colour like plum, forest green or an earthy brown/cinnamon shade esp as it’s an autumn wedding.

MissFritton65 · 08/10/2026 17:25

@SauronsArsehole I think a hat the colour of the "cape" lining would be good! It's actually spring as it will be end of March.
Do I get a coat or not?

Your look amazing in that dress, your waist is fab.

Drop earrings, simple bracelet/bangle, I actually like your gold watch and bracelet in the pic and leave your other wrist bare.

A burgundy hat, it will tie in with the back of the train/scarf part.

GarlicEverything · 08/10/2026 17:37

I'd say yes to a coat, given the time of year. But probably draped over your shoulders so as not to squash the dress! Here's an example: https://www.houseofbruar.com/twd-db-ct-wbelt-ts23074burgundyhb/

Alternatively, a wide fur stole in brown or cream.

I imagined some sort of sparkly cape but, even if I could find what I'm envisaging, it'd be overkill. I like the idea of a snuggly stole.

Ladies Tweed Double Breasted Coat with Belt

For cooler days, this ladies purple Tweed double breasted coat with belt combines heritage tailoring with a polished full-length silhouette.

No advice, just chiming in to say you look bloody great!

MissFritton65 · 08/10/2026 17:52

@GarlicEverything I'm loving the idea of a wide fur stole! 😀 Thank you!
I agree that a coat over the shoulders rather than my arms in.

@GarlicEverything I've seen a vintage Harrods wide mink stole on Ebay for just over £100 - considerably cheaper than a coat!
If I go for that, what hat, shoes and bag do you suggest?

I'm delighted you've found a mink stole! I'm terrible at hats. I only really like bucket hats, yet am often impressed by other women's extravagantly wide confections.

Shoes - depends. Do you wear heels? Will you be walking/standing on grass (likely to be wet & mushy in March)? Would you prefer a high-cut vintage style, strappy, sparkly or ...?

MissFritton65 · 08/10/2026 18:48

@GarlicEverything you are being very helpful - thank you!
I'd like a large, wide brim hat.
I'm fine with heels; we will be either on pavements or inside!

I'd go to a hat hire company and try loads of styles on. They'll have some amazing creations. When else can you really wear one.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/10/2026 19:02

@MissFritton65 How are you with goosebumps and cold? You
must be outside at some stage? If not and you can put a coat in a cloakroom, great. Without a coat, will you be freezing? I would be!

Im not sure what to advise but for me, I’d need a long cost. Hat - definitely plum. Big hats are more Ascot than weddings these days.

MissFritton65 · 08/10/2026 19:11

@MeetMeOnTheCorner I live in Northern England so okish with the cold! I think I'll be ok if I go with the mink stole. This is a small London legal ceremony before they have a large 3 day celebration in Southern Europe in June which brings a whole new outfit dilemma!

@GarlicEverything I'm liking the burgundy sling backs 😀
Not keen on the gold or the patterned.
I'm thinking along the lines of "old school glamour" with the fur stole and dress shape! I know big hats aren't popular for weddings but I'll only be MOB once so I'm going for it! 🤣

GarlicEverything · 08/10/2026 20:07

Totally agree on old-school glamour! Rounder toes and a waisted heel would suit your dress, I feel, perhaps with a bit of embellishment. My searching brain must have gone for an early night, though - looking for vintage & retro, all I got were second-hand designer finds and unconvincing Etsy links.

I liked the burgundy ones best from Dune, too.

Trawling Next, then going to watch Kim Cattrall coming to terms with middle age (while still looking & acting 20 years younger than she is!) If any of these ideas help focus your style - even by rejection - the job's a good 'un 🙂

No advice but I just wanted to say your dress is absolutely gorgeous. You will look amazing on your special day.

watchingthishtread · 08/10/2026 20:38

That is absolutely beautiful on you.

The dress is a statement in it's own right. I like the idea of keeping everything the same colour. Simple shoes, simple clutch. Understated silver toned jewelry. Let the flash of colour come from the lining, your nails and your lips. I'm not sure it needs a hat but if you really want one try one in the same colour as the dress.

The two-part shoes have sold out at Next (sorry) But Zalando Germany seems to have some. I've never bought directly this way, perhaps others could advise if you wanted to try them?

On the UK site, they have these pink shoes:

and many burgundy styles, including this:

I had to filter for red and purple to get burgundy 😂

Oh wow, you have an amazing figure! I LOVE that dress and the darker colour accessories will be beautiful.

look incredible!

MissFritton65 · 08/10/2026 21:39

Thank you all so much for the wonderful suggestions; you have been very helpful!
Please keep them coming! 🤔
Round 2 is a 3 day extravaganza on a beautiful farm in the Algave so no mink stoles despise a black tie dress code for the main event!

Pearlstillsinging · 08/10/2026 21:45

I love the dress. I would stick to burgundy accessories if you can find the right shade. I do like the Next burgundyshoes but the dress might look better with higher, slimmer heels. The mink stole will look fabulous and I would wear silver jewellery.

hellomylov3 · 08/10/2026 21:49

Wowee you look absolutely fabulous, love the dress 👌 😍
