How much effort do you make with presentation if you sell clothes on vinted etc

I don't buy or sell large amounts on vinted & generally buy new with tags.
I recently bought a Maje tweed jacket & a sezane shirt both marked new without tags & was surprised at the geneal lack of care taken. The shirt was rolled up in a wrinkled ball & smelt strongly of perfume on the collar. Clearly had not been washed before posting

The jacket was likewise clearly worn.

I threw the shirt straight into the washing machine but the jacket can't be washed so i'll prob end up getting it dry cleaned

On the other hand i sold 2 blouses & i washed & ironed them, wrapped in tissue paper before packing so whoever opens them will get a clean, fresh, folded shirt

I can't imagine plucking a worn shirt from my wardrobe & rolling it to to shove it in an envelope!

Hmm, well I launder and fold each item and then pop it into a large envelope. I don't wrap it in tissue or anything.
I recently bought a pair of jeans and received a horrible worn stained shirt instead, do even getting the right item isn't a given xx

DancingNotDrowning · 01/10/2026 22:26

I wash and iron stuff before i send it. I wrap it appropriately but don’t make a fuss.

I haven’t bought anything on Vinted but was looking for a few specific bits recently. It is clear that BNWOT is interpreted as worn a couple of times.

I think the issue is exacerbated by the fact that the description for “very good” includes reference to slight imperfections and so where people have items with no marks or imperfections they list as BNWOT.

I agree - there needs to be a category between VERY GOOD and BNWOT. I sell items that have been maybe worn once, are absolutely immaculate but I would not dare advertise as BNWOT so end up selecting VERY GOOD which is not really an accurate description.

Always wrap in tissue paper and use proper mailing bags.

ItsOnlyMee1 · 01/10/2026 22:29

I pack as I expect to receive. Washed, dried and aired but happy to stuff it into one of those plastic parcel bag things without much folding.

HazelHedgehog · 01/10/2026 22:31

I package in those plastic bags, no tissue paper etc.

Ineedanewsofa · 01/10/2026 22:32

Washed and dried, folded and wrapped in proper parcel bags (although I have had to use carrier bags before but always send an apology heads up!) I don’t use tissue paper or iron things though, I’ve seen how couriers treat parcels so there’s no point!

TheLambtonWorm · 01/10/2026 22:32

Likewise wash and iron as a seller and as a buyer I'd always wash items when they arrive anyway because they're 2nd hand, even if bnwt I'd still wash. However, being on the vinted reddit threads is... Eye-opening. There are some horrors out there. Worst recently I saw was someone sharing a listing of a pair of jeans, complete with period blood stain on crotch and seller informing of such. Absolute tramps out there.

Jackospice · 01/10/2026 22:35

I can’t believe people are wrapping in tissue paper.
I send mine in an old shopping bag taped up. They’ve normally been stuffed in storage for months/years as well. Clean, but definitely need a wash to smell a bit fresher. I’ve received stuff in an old pasta box, and old tissue box, one was wrapped in toilet paper and kitchen roll.
anything I get is going through the wash anyway so I’m not too worried, obviously it would be nicer to receive it boxed beautifully as it sounds like some of you are doing, but I don’t think it’s expected.

OneNewEagle · 01/10/2026 22:37

I’d don’t sell only bought. Had some absolute duds sent out in horrible packaging stained etc. some items had holes and one the holes had been stitched up another the cuffs had been cut off and re sewn. So all of that has had to go in the bin.

Then the last dress I bought was wrapped up really nicely in lovely tissue paper so was really lovely to receive.

I’ve not bought anything so far this year due to the terrible sellers.

dicentra365 · 01/10/2026 22:42

Oh I'm one of those that often wraps in tissue, particularly if its BNWT. I've had some beautifully packaged things from Vinted, not even expensive stuff and I always really appreciate so try to do the same. I wouldn't go out buying tissue paper, but I always save it, so generally have some. I've also received things in carrier bags and it doesn't really matter as long as it is clean.

TheBirdintheCave · 01/10/2026 22:48

I also wash, iron and pack things carefully.

WhatMe123 · 01/10/2026 22:55

Mine is always freshly washed. I aim to package it well in suitable packaging

WrongWomen · 01/10/2026 23:07

I'm on EU Vinted so lots of french brands & i have received some beautifully packaged items including one shirt new with tags & she'd included a bracelet with it! I messaged to make sure it wasn't an error & meant for someone else but it wasn't.

I have sold a few things that have been stored & while they were clean i made sure to wash, dry & iron them before folding. I always use tissue etc

I would be v disappointed to receive something in weird packaging like used food boxes etc

I bought beautiful french bobbies shoes in perfect condition & they had their box etc but the seller just taped the actual box shut with brown tape & stuck the label on so now the box is ruined & if i had wanted to sell them on the box is destroyed. I thought that was pretty dumb

I report listings when it's categorised as BNWOT and then the description says that it's been worn, Vinted always uphold the complaint. Pees me off, I only want to buy things that haven't been worn sometimes and because the free text search is blinkin awful I have to rely on the filters and these people listing worn items as new without tags make that filter rubbish. The sizing mess is bad enough.
I do also love a good condition used item, but I will use the very good category when I want those items.
I also don't bother looking at listings where the item is a scrunched up mess, if someone doesn't take care of their items I'm not going to buy them.
I always wash whatever I buy, so many sellers like to give a quick spritz with febreeze or perfume and I really don't like that, though I appreciate lots of people do, so I just want to get rid of the smell as quickly as possible.
When selling I just fold neatly and double bag, and I'm always very honest about the condition, I give the label size and sometimes add measurements too depending on what it is. My items are always clean, and pressed if they need it.
I think it's lovely when someone uses tissue paper, but I never have any to hand so it's not something I'd do unless it was a special or delicate item.

Bloodysquirellls · Yesterday 00:28

Clean, steam and fold or roll into black plastic mail bags.

interesting PP talk of very good saying slight imperfections.

Any mark or imperfection I list as good.

Very good to me is for a perfect item, has been used but not well worn, and not damaged or marked.

MidnightMeltdown · Yesterday 00:30

I don’t know about Vinted, but on eBay it’s in the terms and conditions that used clothes must be washed before sending. How utterly disgusting to send someone your dirty laundry!

Anything I send out is washed and ironed

TheyreJustNormalCheeses · Yesterday 00:33

I iron and fold things and reuse those bags that you get online orders in. Like a pp I got something wrapped in tissue with a card recently and it was a nice surprise.

I only buy if someone’s bothered to at least make the item look nice in a picture.

MidnightMeltdown · Yesterday 00:34

I’ve twice received items described as new when they clearly weren’t. In both cases I reported a ‘not as described’ problem and returned them.

Isabelle70 · Yesterday 06:29

I use eBay and always wrap with a piece of tissue paper and then in a plastic bag which is normally a recycled one.
I send as I would like to receive.

Floisme · Yesterday 06:40

I only buy. The worst I’ve had was a skirt covered with crusty food stains. I also wish sellers would lay off those scented laundry sprays because some of them smell disgusting and are harder to shift than musty smells. But I’ve had some lovely, thoughtful sellers too. I’m not bothered about what it’s packaged in as long as it’s secure.

SpiralSister · Yesterday 06:58

I send only clean items in a new mailbag. I don’t iron or steam though. I might use tissue paper if feeling fancy.

I have received everything from pristine and beautifully wrapped, to clearly dirty with used tissue in the pocket. New mailbags are rare. Used carriers and old cereal boxes(!) or reused Amazon packaging is common.

Everything always seems to smell of febreze or vile fabric conditioner though. If you do this as a seller, please don’t! I mean, I’m going to wash whatever it is anyway, but it’s rank to receive.

WrongWomen · Yesterday 08:58

Yes, agree - febreeze is the work of the devil & dusgusting! It's very hard to shift.

Speaking of hard to shift, the blouse i bought was in perfect condition apart from a VERY strong perfume on the neck (not poison but along those lines)

As soon as i opened the package it hit me so i immediately washed it at 30 degrees

The smell is still there 😬 It's an excellent, expensive shirt so i'd like yo find a way to get rid of it

Just keep washing? Or does anyone have any tips? It's raining here so can't hang outside to air.

I also agree with pp, i only buy if the seller has bothered to make an effort with the photos etc

This looked great in the pics. She didn't bother to button it up properly & sort of rolled it over rather than fold it properly. All round sloppy. But if i can get the perfume out i'll keep.

Hmmm...maybe I'm getting cynical but perhaps they were purposefully tapping into a very niche market?

I wash and iron and pack well. I know lots of teenagers who use Vinted and they tend to just post it without a lot of fuss and in cereal boxes. Maybe it's partly an age thing? Also if you're selling for a couple of quid, it's notvworth faffing around.

WingBingo · Yesterday 09:20

I use tissue paper, nice stickers and a plastic mailing bag.

always clean and ironed. I get good feedback for this. It’s a nice touch and costs pennies.

WrongWomen · Yesterday 09:23

I guess the selling price has a bearing on how much effort is made.

As i mentioned i'm on EU Vinted & buy & sell stuff up to approx €100. Though generally i stay under €50. There are things on there selling for a lot more!

Even at €30 / €40 for a blouse that was€200 new, i expect care in the packing.

I sold 4 tops recently & made €120 & one sold in 10mins of listing. There's a definite market out there

From reading mumsnet it seems vinted stuff is bought & sold at much lower prices in UK?
