How much effort do you make with presentation if you sell clothes on vinted etc

I don't buy or sell large amounts on vinted & generally buy new with tags.
I recently bought a Maje tweed jacket & a sezane shirt both marked new without tags & was surprised at the geneal lack of care taken. The shirt was rolled up in a wrinkled ball & smelt strongly of perfume on the collar. Clearly had not been washed before posting

The jacket was likewise clearly worn.

I threw the shirt straight into the washing machine but the jacket can't be washed so i'll prob end up getting it dry cleaned

On the other hand i sold 2 blouses & i washed & ironed them, wrapped in tissue paper before packing so whoever opens them will get a clean, fresh, folded shirt

I can't imagine plucking a worn shirt from my wardrobe & rolling it to to shove it in an envelope!

I use tissue paper, nice stickers and a plastic mailing bag.

always clean and ironed. I get good feedback for this. It’s a nice touch and costs pennies.

Same!

Depends how much I’m selling it for , bundles of kids clothes at less than 50p each they’re clean , but I’m most definitely not ironing , or making any real effort , but if a decent coat or jumper of mine I would fold .
I sell so cheaply I wouldn’t waste money on niceties like tissue

DottysCollywobbles · Yesterday 09:31

I’m a tissue-paper person too!

I can’t think of any dodgy experiences, but I must say, what’s with all the offers and not buying now? It’s very recent; I’ve had about a dozen offers on items in the past week, I’ve accepted them all and not one person has followed through.

Growlybear83 · Yesterday 09:34

I wouldn’t dream of listing anything that wasn't new without washing and ironing it. When I’m about to sell things on Vinted or eBay I buy a supply of nice tissue paper and mailing bags and I take care with folding and packing everything carefully. I also always include a thank you card - i buy these in bulk very cheaply from eBay. I’ve always taken the view that anything I sell should be sent in the condition thst I would like to receive something Ive bought, and I do judge people who stuff screwed up clothes into carrier bags. It costs me very little to use nice packaging.

Bamboozled5 · Yesterday 09:35

I’m always surprised people can’t even be bothered to iron clothes they’re selling and just have them all crinkled up in the listing.
I bought some new trainers for DD and they arrived stinking of weed. Took quite a lot of airing to get rid of it but the trainers were good 😩

Abra1t · Yesterday 09:37

I cannot see the point in buying new mailing bags--I always save and fold old ones and reuse. Why have even more plastic in circulation?

I always wash and iron and usually use tissue paper for clothes: again, recycled, sometimes ironed.

I received the most beautiful L K Bennett dress that stank of BO. I can't understand the mentality.

And please no Febreze. There's something in that which makes my stomach turn over almost immediately.

ommadon · Yesterday 09:39

Prices are so low on Vinted as long as it’s not damaged or stained when it arrives I’m totally happy to wash it. I think people lose sight of the fact that you are generally paying less than a third of rrp. You wouldn’t get things as cheap in a charity shop.

i buy and sell a lot. Mostly get fantastic feedback but someone was unhappy because there was a pen lid in a pair of jeans (I’d marked as v good condition - they were and washed but the lid had been through the wash) - I was happy to have them returned and will resell.

WrongWomen · Yesterday 09:39

@Abra1t what did you do with the dress?

@Abra1t what did you do with the dress?

Was tempted to throw out but held my nose and put it straight into the washing machine by itself and then hung it out on the line! It was lovely. I didn't complain as we were dashing off on holiday and I forgot.

Gertibear · Yesterday 09:44

Anything used gets washed and often ironed to take the pictures. I fold it, and package in a clear plastic bag (I try to keep ones when I’ve had clothes delivered but I also buy them as run out too often), it then goes in a plastic mailing bag or a box with bubble wrap depending on contents.

I buy fragile tape, large clear tape, bubble wrap, mailing bags and have in the past bought boxes. I try now recycle old packaging too. I’ve been selling for 20yrs and now there’s an endless cycle of stuff to sell after having 2 kids.

I always take pride in what I’m sending and how to package or properly. I’m always honest and picture any little flaws. I hate it when I get something and it’s marked or stained etc.

Did the smell come out completely? I'd be worried it had premeated the fabric & it would be released as i wore it

Potential BO is my main worry buying from vinted & it's why i mainly buy new with tags.

I tend to buy inexpensive items on vinted, for me that is kind of the point. I'm always surprised when people wrap a £2 shirt or whatever in tissue, seal it with a sticker and use a new parcel bag. It seems wasteful.

What I expect, and mainly get, is a clean item of clothing stuffed into a used Amazon bag. That's good enough for me!

It seemed to! I only wore the dress once, for a few hours, and didn't notice any odour (or if there was, nobody told me.) I then sold it back on Vinted, having washed it again, and got good feedback.

It's been the only time it's happened to me but I tend to buy new things there, usually with tags on.

WrongWomen · Yesterday 09:50

@Abra1t brilliant! I too mostly buy new.

i don’t understand the obsession with Vinted. We all know people are nasty and gross yet we expose ourselves to their second hand clothes. Ugh

WellyBellyBoo · Yesterday 09:59

I use Vinted for cheap purchases, under £20. I don't expect anything other than it is washed. I would need to iron anyway so quite happy that the seller hasn't wasted time doing that. Many people don't even own an iron. I prefer it if someone re-uses a box or posting bag as it's more sustainable (my main reason for using Vinted is to avoid how wasteful fast fashion is. I don't buy plastic bags myself so if an item comes wrapped in a brand new plastic posting bag that cancels out some of the benefit environmentally). I'd feel differently if I was spending £50+ on things and would expect them ironed and nicely wrapped.

Jintx · Yesterday 10:01

Most people are quite good at packaging nicely. You can tell how much effort they'll make from the selling post. The worst post I've seen is a person trying to sell an item while wearing it selfie in the mirror and the the background is a very messy room with half eaten food on the bed.

LividRoasting · Yesterday 10:12

I have hundreds of nothing but 5* reviews.
Don't iron in ordinary life so not starting for stuff I'm selling for £2.
Don't understand the tissue paper - genuinely, what is it doing? - and not wasting money on postcards and stickers.
Stuff gets sent same or next day in a mailing bag and it's always freshly clean but not stinky clean.

Much rather things came quickly than when people take ages to post. I ALWAYS wash things I buy as soon as I open the packets, no matter what the condition, because I dislike the smell of "other people's" laundry stuff and it doesn't feel like mine until it's washed.

Heavens! I never understand photos of the seller wearing something. A) I don’t want to think about the previous wearer and B) they invariably look terrible so I think I’ll probably look just as bad

Puppylucky · Yesterday 10:22

HG odour remover spray from Amazon is pretty good at freshening up stinky Vinted items - although I bought a coat recently that had been drenched in a really strong perfume that wouldn't fade no matter what I did. I'm also paranoid about BO, particularly in knitwear, so will ditch those items.

Oh no - that's my worry with the perfume on the blouse i bought 😕

I agree - there needs to be a category between VERY GOOD and BNWOT. I sell items that have been maybe worn once, are absolutely immaculate but I would not dare advertise as BNWOT so end up selecting VERY GOOD which is not really an accurate description.

Always wrap in tissue paper and use proper mailing bags.

So do I but I recycle and reuse mailing bags.

SilenceInside · Yesterday 10:27

Obviously things are clean and folded neatly. I wrap in tissue paper but it's always tissue paper that I've had from other deliveries/presents, not new. I often use pretty stickers or washi tape, as I have a stationery obsession and have lots that just need using! I wouldn't iron things as they will be in flexible packaging and not stay in that state, so pretty pointless.

I want people to be pleased and happy with the state of the items they've bought from me, even if they only cost a few pounds. It's an easy thing to do and doesn't cost me anything.

marplemead · Yesterday 10:29

Everything is sent washed/cleaned and ready to wear. I only use laundry products for sensitive skin and without fragrance. And waterproof outerwear is cleaned with a tech wash. I always state this in listings.

I don't bother with tissue paper unless the item has sold for a high price and/or is delicate. I always use recycled packaging, and don't list anything unless I know what I am packing it in.

I only leave positive feedback for sellers where some care has been taken, the item is exactly as described and sent reasonably quickly.

Jintx · Yesterday 10:34

I've been lucky with vinted. I've never received any smelly or dirty items. What I really hate is new without tags but then also adding only worn twice.
