Opinions on these M&S wide-leg trousers before I keep them?

Can I have opinions on these trousers please 🙏. I’ve ordered them and they fit beautifully. Couldn’t be better. I’m just not 100% sure about them, probably because I rarely pay full price for anything.

Very nice and a bit unusual without being wacky.

WhereAreWeNow · 30/09/2026 21:52

I like them OP. Well cut trousers are hard to find so if they fit beautifully then you should keep them.
The dry clean only aspect would put me off.

Momrage · 30/09/2026 22:08

They are beautiful but I wouldn't personally. I just don't think the colour is as wearable as it needs to be for that price. It's a bit festive and I also can't help but think of the joke about rich men of a certain age loving red trousers.

cityliving99 · 30/09/2026 22:15

Love them. Very stylish.
Wash them on a silk wash, you will be fine.

KeepPuttingOneFootInFront · 01/10/2026 07:22

Thanks @TheLette .

Well, I have decided overnight that I will return them. Fit, colour, opportunity to wear them - ticks all the boxes. I've got loads I could wear with them.

However, I just don't think that the fabric is good enough and definitely doesn't compare to my Jigsaw and Whistles wide legged work trousers which range from 50% wool/50% cotton and 80% wool/20% cotton boucle.

Do you not wear knickers? I get at least 8 or 9 wears out of my dry clean only stuff and then guess what? I hand wash them.

My tired eyes read that as "at least 8 or 9 years."

I was thinking 🤔

fiorentina · 01/10/2026 09:46

I think they are very versatile and can be worn more casually or dressed up. I personally tend to steer away from dry clean only trousers if I wear them regularly as I commute on grubby sweaty trains don’t feel an air on the line is enough for them to feel clean, but your lifestyle maybe totally different.

If you love them and would wear them, and can afford them, why return them? I don’t get it?

Maybe because I don’t find trousers that work well for me that often, I would pay that price for ones I love and would wear a lot.

NewGoldFox · 01/10/2026 14:09

Are they likely to be massively reduced in a sale? They’re quite striking so may not sell out…

KeepPuttingOneFootInFront · 01/10/2026 14:38

@Optimisticccc because the fabric doesn’t feel premium/worth the price tag.

They are gorgeous, the only thing that would put me off is that they are dry clean only and I am a mucky pup.

Dry clean only - no thanks!!

NicolaMarlowsMerlin · Yesterday 12:51

Love them! Have ordered.

KarlMarx · Yesterday 15:36

I like them visually, but the fabric is a blend (so likely non-recyclable) AND the blend includes viscose which, while technically the product of natural raw materials, is notoriously environmentally unsound due to the way it is processed to be used in fabric. That plus the partial rather than full lining would add up to a "no" from me.

Lovemycat2023 · Yesterday 17:45

Now I want them too! Lovely colour - would work with neutrals and navy. Great reviews too.

They're gorgeous

Wide Leg just no.

Wide leg hell yeah. Good thing we’re all different.

I was just about to say similar! What a pointless comment ...

I love wide legged trousers & always have ... I never did wear skinny jeans, jeggings or anything of that ilk, even when they were the height of fashion!

Same. I love current trousers. Wide leg, barrel, balloon - bring it on.

Nothing to do with the label, it is the fit/cut. I don't think the fabric is hugely impressive, 85% wool is fine, but it is a bit of an odd weave, however, the cut and the fact that they are a bit different seals the deal.

I don't think the Jaegar label is particularly swanky tbh.

Jaeger back in thr day was a good brand, but they are just a markies brand now and markies in my opinion isn’t doing a good job with it.

I think because it's a wool-viscose blend, rather than wool-polyester, it can be recycled/will break down fully. You're right about ordinary viscose though, as it's not Ecovero or one of the other options. But ordinary non-organic cotton is even worse in terms of pollutants & water usage.

If you take all those factors into account though, when you're shopping for new clothes, that's very commendable! I do try & make myself aware, & make good choices - plus I buy almost entirely second-hand - but I'm afraid that if I loved those trousers I would probably have ignored the 15% viscose & bought them!!

I don't like the look of the fabric when you zoom in on it.
