Opinions on these M&S wide-leg trousers before I keep them?

Can I have opinions on these trousers please 🙏. I’ve ordered them and they fit beautifully. Couldn’t be better. I’m just not 100% sure about them, probably because I rarely pay full price for anything.

I think you'd struggle to find 85% part lined wool trousers for £50.

But you can see the point I was making ?
Forget the £50 if you have to be so literal.
If the item was cheaper would she still like it ?

mondaytosunday · 30/09/2026 17:25

Love them!

I don’t see it either, she said the quality wasn’t as good as whistles etc, and can afford, so for her this may not be a considered purchase,

No ‘apparently’ about it. I mostly buy from whistles and jigsaw and virtually always buy with a 20% off code as a minimum.

I love the colour and cut of these, not sure the weave is quite as nice as I expected, but I’m keeping them.

As for the price? £95 is probably where I’d put the garment in front of me, I think that was why I was dithering, the fabric vs the cost. But the colour and the absolutely perfect fit is why I’m going to keep them.

I but most of my clothes from Whistles, Nobody’s Child and Jigsaw. I never pay full price either.

Nobody’s Child have got 20% off right now, Whistles have at least 15% off.

They are gorgeous, the only thing that would put me off is that they are dry clean only and I am a mucky pup.

That's why the model looks so peed off. She's thinking "oh I should never wear dry clean only on a muddy national trust walk 🤦🏻‍♀️"

Markies own them employ the design team, it’s no different to per Una or autograph, just a brand they sell under

It is different - Per Una & Autograph are & always have been labels for sub-brands within M&S - they have never existed independently.

Jaeger had a long storied history as an independent classic British clothing manufacturer, which was bought by M&S when its stores stopped being profitable. It's now sold purely online under the M&S umbrella. It is almost certainly now sharing clothing factories etc with M&S, as it makes sense economically - but has a separate MD, design team, & PR team. Maybe that'll change in the future, but that's been the case to date I believe.

I think they've done a pretty good job so far with retaining their higher quality (compared to mainstream M&S clothing). Still lots of silk, wool, leather etc - though it can also be a bit staid! But that was always the case too - it's best for classic pieces.

PITA22 · 30/09/2026 18:27

I like them, although I think whoever styled the model should be fired.

Sure its heritage is different, but today, now, it is not. It is another brand like autograph and per Una markies operate snd sell on their website and in store.

It isn’t sold exclusively on line, it’s in my local store. And lots of influencers show themselves walking round different markies and go to the jaeger section or the autograph section.

Citronella321 · 30/09/2026 18:56

At that price, if they don't make you clutch them to your heaving bosom, breathing, "You must be mine!" send them back.
Quality is worth paying for but only if you love them.

I think you're missing the point a bit. All that you say is true - but it still operates relatively autonomously within M&S - whereas Autograph etc don't. It's still a different brand - Per Una & Autograph are sub-brands.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 30/09/2026 19:13

Thats the next model too now, they’ve bought some other companies.

These companies are utilising their distribution networks., adding in brands for ‘differentiation’’ as shops disappear from high streets and those that stay operate as collection and return points

Um no it’s not.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/09/2026 19:31

If you’re not sure don’t get them. I don’t like the pleats at the front. I think they make the trousers hang strangely and they will definitely only work if you don’t fill them out! So there you go! There’s a reason NOT to get them.

Sunbringer · 30/09/2026 19:36

I love trousers but I do not like those. Would be worn by an old man called Eduard or something and are a bit like a wealthy Ronald McDonald

KeepPuttingOneFootInFront · 30/09/2026 19:59

ACupOfVintage · 30/09/2026 16:19

I agree.

If the Jaeger label was removed I doubt people would give them a second glance.

Nothing to do with the label, it is the fit/cut. I don't think the fabric is hugely impressive, 85% wool is fine, but it is a bit of an odd weave, however, the cut and the fact that they are a bit different seals the deal.

I don't think the Jaegar label is particularly swanky tbh.

Did you cry at the Sistine Chapel?

No, it's not especially swanky - it was always about good-quality classic clothes (& I think they're sticking with that now that they're within the M&S stable). But it's still an improvement on the "wool-rich" 95% synthetic garments that abound in most high-street stores, not just M&S. At least your trousers really ARE wool-rich!

And I don't think they're a difficult colour to wear, as some have commented. It's good to have something other than the usual black or navy, IMO.

Screamingabdabz · 30/09/2026 20:47

I was quite taken aback at the colour when I clicked on the link. I was expecting dove grey or tweedy brown…Wear those babies nearer Christmas and you’ll look like Santa on his lunch break. 😬

It’s a no from me.

HoldMyWine · 30/09/2026 20:48

I love the shape, not sure about the colour but worn with a deep dark top like navy, they're not bright red so quite sophisticated colour

I wouldnt buy them for rock climbing though.

Oh goodness they aren’t washable. You need to add dry clean costs on top, at least £10/£15 each 2 or 3 wears. Impractical.

Do you not wear knickers? I get at least 8 or 9 wears out of my dry clean only stuff and then guess what? I hand wash them.
