Anyone got the Dyson Airsmooth?

What's it like?

I resisted a hairdryer for years but was given one and it's transformed my unruly hair so hoping the Airsmooth will be the same . I use a Revlon One Step to finish off but it gets very hot so would like something a bit kinder on the hair.

Do you dry with a hair drier first?

No I used it as the dryer, as it's supposed to smooth and wave the ends as it does it. I keep it on the lowest air flow. It does smooth it and dry it nicely at the time, but then within the hour, it's enormous and quite windblown looking. (I have a ton of hair, wavy/curly, but dry it smooth/straightist, or at least try to). It's quite dry hair now though, and needs a trim. But it's always been very difficult hair, and I have a graveyard of products and machines that I've tried!! Best for smoothing/straightening is the AirStrait, but it left the ends looking awful without any bend or shape, and then I can't even curl it afterwards with heated irons or tongs or anything as they just fall out. So I hoped that waving/curling while I dried would mean they'd stay a bit more. My hairdresser can do it with a brush and dryer, smooth and curl it together as it dries, and then that lasts. But I can't replicate it with any gadgets I can use alone!

Are you on about the one in the box with the coander effect curly things?

No this is a different machine - this one is a brush dryer. It has lovely non-tangling bristles, which is great, and does smooth hair - but on me, it then puffs up enormously after a short while. Other people seem to get on well with it.

The coanda one is the Airwrap with lots of attachments. I didn't get enough tension from that to smooth my hair at all. But again, I know loads of people really really love that one too.

Please try the Cantu stuff, it's pretty magic and not expensive so if it doesn't work it's not a huge loss.

Also give it a go drying first , I always 95% dry mine and then use the Revlon and now the Airsmooth. Might make a difference to the puffiness.

yeah I might give the cantu another go with this machine, maybe that will be a new combo. I don't have another drier other than the airstrait, but I often leave it to air dry quite a bit too.

Is it a bit like the GHD duet ?

I don't know,it's similar to the Revlon One Step.

My Dyson hairdryer was £220 I think,it was cheaper than usual as it was last year's colour. It was worth every single penny to me as it's made drying my hair so much easier as it's so light and I can get it dry so quickly. It's mad money for a bloody hair drier but I'm hoping the Airsmooth will be as good.

I've woken up this morning with my hair looking pretty decent before I've even brushed it or sorted it out so I'm pretty hopeful it'll be worth it 🤞

I think people with hair that behaves don't understand how hard it is to work with unruly hair ! In the summer I went curly ,just washed and let it dry, it was really freeing and saved so much time but I can't do that now as it's too chilly and takes hours to set naturally.

The only thing that beats frizz for me is a professional blow dry. I'm going to have a keratin treatment at the hairdressers in November which they promise will be life changing. Until then, I'm not investing in any more products or gadgets. Might get the Cantu though 🤔😂

@LikeGoldToAiryThinness my hair is similar, looks pretty good blow dried but puffs out after a while. It's longer lasting if I use my straighteners but I don't like using them too often - I also prefer a blow dried look to a straightened look.

@HelloFreshly I would be interested to hear how your keratin treatment goes. I keep almost booking one then then talking myself out of it!

@LoafofSellotape I'm pleased you like it, it was all over my Instagram for a bit but all the reviews were from people who had been sent freebies which always makes me suspicious.
