Anyone got the Dyson Airsmooth?

What's it like?

I resisted a hairdryer for years but was given one and it's transformed my unruly hair so hoping the Airsmooth will be the same . I use a Revlon One Step to finish off but it gets very hot so would like something a bit kinder on the hair.

Anyone? I thought all the fashionistas would be all over this 😂

I'm undecided. I bought it directly from Dyson, though it was slightly cheaper elsewhere, because they allow 35 day returns. At the moment I'm leaning slightly more towards returning it, but not sure yet. However, I have really frizzy hair, and not much seems to help. The Revlon One-Step, the GHD Duet blow-dry brush, and the Babyliss Big Hair all tended to make it very big and eventually frizzy/wild, over the past few years. However, I have a LOT of hair, it's curly/wavy, it's quite dry at the moment from menopause, it's not been trimmed in a while, so there are various reasons why it's more difficult than usual. And the Dyson was similar to the others in that it eventually made it pretty big and puffy, despite various attempts with products. On the up-side, though, it does feel less hot, and less damaging, and it's quite fast, and it looked quite nice for the first hour afterwards. And it didn't tangle or pull my hair at all, with the specially shaped bristles. And was quite light, and has a smaller plug than the airstraight. It didn't make my hair pin-straight, which I liked, and give me a little shape in the ends. It didn't give any sort of actual curl, though. (My hair is curly, until I straighten or blow-dry it or anything, at which point it doesn't seem to allow any curl to be put back in!). At the moment, I sort of prefer my Airstrait, which smooths it as much but doesn't make it puffy, at least not the first day, but the Airstrait just leaves me with ratty looking dry ends that just, well, end, with a blunt edge and no shape. I'd hoped this might solve my problem, and it sort of did, but just can't get over the puffiness and windblown look that creeps in within a couple of hours, despite various different products (Dream coat, GHD sleek talker, moroccanoil smoothing cream, other things to make curls stay, etc. - not all the same time, obviously, but in a few experiments!).

So I'm not sure. I have also tried the shark Silkipro, and in many ways, liked that - but the ceramic plate is probably what made the difference, which is going to be damaging, and also it constantly caught my hair on the plates, and felt like it was pulling it out. So that was a no-go. I continue to look for something I can use after the airstrait that will let me curl the ends and not drop out within minutes. I am considering the Shark glossi at some point.

If you have the sort of hair that the other hot brushes do work for, then you might well love this, as it's less damaging, feels good to use, and doesn't tangle. I really want it to work for me but just haven't managed it yet.

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I don't ever use a hot brush to dry my hair just to finish off and give a bit of oomph to and smooth down. I've bought it on Amazon but have 30 days return if it's no good.

That's good - good luck with it! I didn't know amazon had a try and return policy too; I thought it was just Dyson and QVC that did it.

I often buy second hand from CeX or refurbished, because I need to try them out and can't just buy all of them! Or borrow them to try.

I don’t think they do. You can return it within thirty days in the original condition. You can’t use it and return it like you can with Dyson directly.

Yes you can, you can return for free within 30 days for any reason in a used or in used state for free. I've just checked.

Is that sold by Dyson through amazon perhaps? So maybe it's still Dyson guarantee. Rather than amazon itself selling it. Shame that the Shark glossi doesn't have the same, but I think qvc still has that, so I might try that next if I return the Dyson. I just want something that will give me smoothness like the Airstrait, but still do something to the horrible ends.

The best thing I've recently discovered for my similar hair is Cantu weightless leave in conditioner. Has helped hugely with the frizz. It's a cream to leave in curly hair but I discovered it works really well if you apply it before blow drying, really helps hold its shape too.

I'm logged into Prime and just checked, mine says any reason in a new and unused condition so I would definitely take a screen shot @LoafofSellotape of what it says for you, just in case!

Oh god, I would definitely do something like this! Is it worth sending it back without using it and repurchasing direct from Dyson so you can actually try it?

That's a good idea but don't know if I have the will power not to try it 😂

Dyson is pretty fast with delivery - though. not, as they claim on their site, next day delivery if you order by 9pm. I ordered evening on a Thursday and didn't get it until Monday afternoon (I think. might have been saturday afternoon. but it wasn't the Friday, at any rate!!)

I wonder if I can repackage it 😉

It's arrived!

As predicted I had no self control and opened it🙄 I LOVE it! I washed my hair this morning and dried it so just used the Airsmooth to smooth it down and curl up the flicky ends,I have a long Rachel bob. It doesn't get nearly as hot as the Revlon hot brush and doesn't pull my hair out- I had one hair on the brush when I'd finished but that's to be expected. It's also going to be much easier to clean than the Revlon.

I would never dry my hair fully using the Revlon but would have a go with this I think.

All in all very happy 😊

I really couldn't ,I tried to open it without disturbing the packaging but ended up ripping it open like a 6 year old on Xmas morning 🙄😂

It was such a nice present from DH and totally unexpected. We saw an ad on telly and I sighed dramatically and said 'Look at that beauty.' Dh asked if it would be good and I said probably if the hairdryer is anything to go by then he said ' You'd better order one.'

I definitely didn't squeak with excitement 😂

I'm envious that it's worked so well for you!! I hope it continues to do so and stays smooth. I really want it to work for me but can't seem to get over the puffiness/big hair. Ordered more products (small sizes I hope!) today to see if anything else it better than all the things I already have...
