Anyone got the Dyson Airsmooth?

What's it like?

I resisted a hairdryer for years but was given one and it's transformed my unruly hair so hoping the Airsmooth will be the same . I use a Revlon One Step to finish off but it gets very hot so would like something a bit kinder on the hair.

For fellow frizzies who can't spend £200 on hair dryers, I recently bought a Remington Wet2Straight Pro Hair Straightener.

You use it on towel-dried hair. It has steam vents. Self-adjusts for the changing moisture level in your hair, so (according to them) you don't need a heat styling product.

It does do what it says and is very responsive. I'm really bad at hair styling, so am still training myself to treat it in sections and keep the movement straight - if you already use straighteners, these will be a doddle and genuinely save time.

They look an absolute bargain!

I know this isn't what your asking but I bought the Shark Silkipro 2 in 1 2 weeks ago (new version that is all in one) and, it's absolutely brilliant. For the first time in my life, I can get my hair looking straight and silky and even the morning after, a quick wizz through with the straighteners sorts it for the whole day. As it's all laying flat, it also feels super soft and not like straw.

I have super frizzy boofy hair that even my hair stylist struggles to get straight so I'm delighted and relieved as it was a lot of money when I've tried and failed so many times before!

Ooo fabulous! I didn't think about the Shark as a friend told they tend to be quite heavy and I need something light,I should've looked by the sounds of it. I'm going to wash my hair tomorrow and have a proper play with it and try drying from wet.

The shark Silkipro is one of the most recent ones I tried and returned just before the Dyson. It gave me a nice effect (because of the ceramic plates i think), but the plates really pulled my hair and it seems to catch on the edges of them every time I pulled it through. It also took ages and didn't quite dry it in the end, which then went frizzy (but if you are the sort that dries it first with another hair dryer, that might work for you!).

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 19/09/2026 07:24

I'm wondering about the Shark glossi, for wet-to-dry, and smooth? Anyone compared that to the silkipro or the dyson? I've had the GHD duet before, and the normal revlon one - haven't tried the wet-2-dry one though.

LoafofSellotape · 19/09/2026 12:42

Right, washed my hair this morning and tried to dry it from wet with the Air smooth - quicker than the Revlon but would take far to long. Blasted it with the hairdryer until 98%dry then smoothed over with the Air smooth - worked a treat . I went over it with cool air at the end to lock it all in.

I've also now seen that the new Airwrap has a new straightening attachment that looks kind of like the Airstrait, but round, and with plates that heat up just via the air, not directly. I am wondering if that would be what I need - if I could dry, straighten, and curl the ends in one machine, which would be amazing. But the airwrap is so expensive if I don't need the other bits. I did order and return it before, but it didn't have that attachment. I didn't get on very well with the other attachments as my hair just blew around too much when I tried to curl it, and the curls didn't stay it, without enough tension.

I am going to see if the local John Lewis happens to have it in stock, so at least I could get a feel for whether the plates on it pull my hair or not.

I may also try a combination of drying with the airstrait as that's quite fast at just drying, and then using the airsmooth to see if I can get some body/wave in the ends, but I suspect once it's dry, that's it for curls for me.

Itstheyearitstarts · 22/09/2026 13:46

I got an AirSmooth yesterday after slithering between this and the Airwrap. I decided on this as I couldn’t see myself using all of the attachments and really wanted something to help control frizz. Used it this morning and really happy with it. Definitely feels like it will take a few goes to get the hang of it but very pleased.
Suspect I won’t use the Dyson hairdryer to much now.

minnowonthesay · 22/09/2026 20:13

On a Instagram a d_kear does a really good few reviews of it, even saying that it works better if your hair is really wet when you start, rather than 80% dry with the airwrap

cotedazur28 · 26/09/2026 22:01

I’ve just got one today from DH for my birthday and I’m excited to try it next hair wash. I’ve not seen it before so it was a total surprise. I usually use a Shark hot brush so I think this will be much better for my poor thin menopause ravaged hair.

UpToonGirl · 06/10/2026 09:56

Are you still loving it @LoafofSellotape ? I've just got mine but I washed my hair yesterday (can't get away with daily washing) so I'll have to wait. I've got mine direct from Dyson and I've made myself promise I'll send it back if it's not great for me. I have a huge collection of hair gadgets so I don't need another that's just going to collect dust.

I've been watching a few videos on people using it and while the majority are blasting their hair to mostly dry, then using it, some are saying it's best for frizz to just go straight with it on wet hair. I think I'll try both options and report back if anyone's interested?

I do still love it,it's so much more gentle than the Revlon one step.

I haven't used it on wet hair,I dry mine then go over it.

I have found a great product for frizz - Redken Frizz Dismiss. I prefer it to Cantu. Expensive but you get a huge tube and only need a bit.

Hope it works out for you,I really love mine 😊

Just to add to the poofy hair conversation…. I have this too. I’ve got fine hair but there’s lots of it, and as I’m getting older it’s getting curlier, but the underneath is VERY wiry. It only looks ok if I use heat on the underneath parts so I tend to use the revlon one step once a week or so - it looks great immediately afterwards but then very quickly I get lots of flyaways and fluffy bits and the bottom just seems to puff out? If there’s anything even like a mild wind it goes all over the place and never seems to sit nicely again.

i bought a mini bottle of colour wow dream coat to try and it makes my hair look lovely, moves around all swishy and stays sleek. I purchased a full size immediately afterwards!

UpToonGirl · 08/10/2026 18:01

Used it yesterday, hair is lovely and smooth with a bit of bounce. It has stayed smooth and not puffed up (unusual for me) but I've also used some dream coat so that is probably helping. So far so good. No snagging which is what I was most worried about.

minnowonthesay · 08/10/2026 19:06

Nadine Baggott did a good review of it yesterday on Instagram - she says her hair is fine, difficult and poofy

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 08/10/2026 19:55

I"m still struggling and trying to decide whether to keep it or not. I've used so many anti-frizz serums or leave-in conditioners etc. It looks lovely for the first few hours, but then gets poofy again. It doesn't snag, though, and it gives more shape than the Airstrait, so I'm leaning towards keeping it. But still trying to find the right products. Even DreamCoat extra-strength, that used to help, hasn't been working in this weather!

caffelattetogo · 08/10/2026 20:02

I have a T3 Aire 360, which is cheaper and I think easier to use. It’s also dual voltage, which I find useful as I travel a fair bit.

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 08/10/2026 20:04

the airsmooth is also dual voltage though, which is unusual for Dyson

Mine has kept shape for a few days now which is unusual for me. I did use it on pretty wet hair - normally I would blast my hair and then go in with a styling brush but I saw a few people saying to try from wet so I'm not sure if it's that which has made a difference. I did also use dream coat, which I've not been impressed with previously but this time I put it in a misting bottle so I could really coat my hair. I also used Virtue leave in conditioner for this first time which has good reviews for fluffy hair.

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 09/10/2026 11:17

I've not heard of Virtue. I"ve been trying a cantu leave-in, a moroccan oil one, a GHD wet-to-dry one etc, but not much luck yet. And dream coat.

I think my hair is not getting as fully dry with this as it did with the airstrait, and maybe without as much tension, which might add to the fluffiness. It looked quite nice today right after I dried it, but an hour or two later now it's fairly fluffy again, and still has a vaguely damp feel - not really damp, as it doesn't seem like it is when I touch it, but something is just not quite as dried/finished as with the airstrait, so maybe there is more moisture hanging around. It looks nice than with the airstrait right afterwards, though, more shape to the ends etc. I just wish it wouldn't get so puffy later. And also that I could add some curls somehow! But nothing I use seems to last - they just fall straight out. (And I normally have naturally curly/wavy hair!)

UpToonGirl · 09/10/2026 13:49

Snap, I have wavy hair naturally but can't get a curl to hold. Even when I've had it done at the hairdressers, it falls out within an hour. I can also rarely get the waves to looks good anymore, they used to on holiday but the last few times I've been away I just look like Haggrid 😂

LoafofSellotape · 12/10/2026 09:39

I've just dried my hair using just the Airsmooth and I have to say it looks loads better than just using it as a smoothing/ finishing too after using the hair drier. I used a minute amount of WOW dream coat sprayed into my hands and smoothed onto my hair - if I spray directly it's too heavy and looks lank- and it dried super quickly and it was easy peasy.

For comparison I was never able to dry my hair from wet with my Revlon One step,it took too long and drier my hair. I have shoulder length hair.
