What is the new Uniqlo half moon bag?

Hi 👋
Wondering what’s going to replace this viral bag? (Handbag style: not rucksack)
I have a couple; they are bloody brilliant but are they becoming dated?
I love that I can stick them in the wash and the cross body means I don’t have to make an effort to keep it on my shoulder like I do with a tote or a shoulder bag.
So those who are ‘on trend’ …. What’s next after the Uniqlo one ? I suppose my style is quite Arket/ Uniqlo and I would consider leather but I don’t like anything twee or blingy…… and I hate those camera bags that say RIVER ISLAND or MICHAEL KORS down the strap.

I’m on the same mission, OP. I had a root around in & Other Stories, Arket, Cos, Reiss, Uniqlo at the weekend - came away with nothing.

I want a crossbody bag (for comfort) and a zip (for security). Big enough to take basic stuff plus a small umbrella. I’d like chocolate brown for the winter.

I can’t find anything that ticks the box. So many of the bags I’ve seen are open at the top with just a feeble magnetic popper to keep the top vaguely together. Hopelessly insecure for London.

Also can’t bear those twee camera bags with ‘fun’ straps.

momager22 · Today 11:13

Yes I also need a zip!
I’m still traumatised by the Cambridge satchel days 20 years ago where I could never be arsed to do up the buckles - then I’d bend over and the whole contents of my bag would spill out.

The COS Trullo bag is extremely popular at the moment but seems near impossible to get one.

I noticed the other day Arket have a bag not dissimilar to the Uniqlo but in leather: https://www.arket.com/en-gb/product/crescent-leather-bag-black-1318984001/ for something similar but much higher end there is the Lemaire Croissant bag.

This also has a Toteme vibe but with a longer strap https://www.arket.com/en-gb/product/suede-shoulder-bag-dark-mole-1372055001/.

I don't think the Uniqlo bag will look dated yet. I suspect it will become a bit of a classic. I could really do with one with more zipped compartments though as I am forever rummaging for stuff.

I really like the little JapFac ones as they seem to have compartments but they’re very small and the string strap puts me off.

My friend has a Primark dupe and I think it has compartments.

@user593ooh the Trullo does look lovely and strap can be extended to cross body. Going to keep an eye out.

I have this in black, it’s great. It has a zip around exterior pocket you can fit a brolly or water bottle in!

I like the Uniqlo Drawstring bag for winter. It's roomy, it's got a couple pockets, it's got snaps and the drawstring and can be carried like purse or cross body. I got one in hunter green because I wear that colour quite a bit.

I think the half moon bag is a classic but it could be improved with a divider.

This Arket has the top fastening arrangement that I’ve seen everywhere (and have moaned about further up the thread). This sort of fold-over style with a feeble magnetic arrangement to attempt to hold it together is just not secure enough.

  1. pickpockets will slip a hand in really easily to take your phone
  2. As OP experienced with her Cambridge Satchel, if it ever tips upside down all your contents will spill everywhere.

I really want a zip to feel secure but these foldy-flap-magnetic-button set-ups are everywhere.

After trying every type of bag from designer to Uniqlo, I have realised that my lifestyle- London, walking everywhere, squeezing on crowded Tubes- needs an ugly and non- stylish bag with tons of pockets. So have bought a Kipling Gabbie in navy..( Cringes).
It may be frumpy but so, so useful, light and easy.

MalcolmTent · Today 14:49

Oh I like that. Except my preferred colours are sold out.

OsfameronTanamoril · Today 14:49

Yes, I need a sturdy zip, not an arty bobble!

Lentilcakes · Today 14:50

I love mine, only got it a couple of months ago so late to the party! I bought a v expensive bag from JL w some vouchers I was gifted and I barely use it 🤦‍♀️ - it’s more of a winter bag, but still ..

This is lovely, but the price of it 😳

(I’m the wrong target audience for S&B so will bow out quietly).

It's discounted. Quite a good deal at £49. I like the Bordeaux but still not enough pockets for me. I carry headphones, a bottle of water, a Kindle, a small fan, a wallet, a compact...

I wouldn’t even pay the discounted price (as much as I like it). As I said, I’m not the right audience. I have an Amazon Kipling dupe with I think I paid less than a tenner for 🫣

It's ok, I paid £ 30 for my Kipling. 😀
I do have leather bags. I just don't carry them on the Tube as they are too heavy.

And it's such an impractical colour as well.

I have a very similar style bag. It isn't stylish, but it is so practical with it's many pockets and compartments, making everything easy to find. I take it on holiday and out on day trips. I can even store my Seasalt thin raincoat in it.

OsfameronTanamoril · Today 15:12

I like this too.
