Where do over 55's buy their clothes?

I'm 57, I don't keep up with the latest fashions, but like to look nice. I've been told I look late 40's, and love hair and makeup. I get my hair coloured etc and always where foundation.

I used to buy from Next but I don't know what their buyers are thinking, as the current range is awful!

I work for M&S but not sure what to get.

Where are you buying your clothes please and can you suggest any people to follow on Instagram.

I love M and S and buy loads from them.

I buy knitwear, dresses and blouses from sea salt and white stuff but basics are cheaper in supermarkets like jeggings, jeans, knickers which offsets the price of the more expensive things, and Asda has had better bras online than M&S.

COS is my go to at nearly 50.

I went in H&M yesterday for my son and it was horrific. Wall to Wall polyester.

I don't buy much from M&S as the quality is awful. I buy their trousers mainly.

If you know what suits you but it’s currently not à la mode then Vinted is your friend! Look for brands and colours you know you like, filter for brand new with tags and you will be astonished how much there is to choose from

Unpopular opinion but Shein. Can’t beat for variety and price, but you do have to be careful and look at size charts and reviews. Also Etsy. I’m very tall and have found a few more unique things there. Used to buy a lot from Long Tall Sally but since they were bought out the quality and style has gone way downhill.

I live in a town, so there aren’t many shops nearby. I usually shop at supermarkets, charity shops and M&S. If I’m after something specific and can’t find it locally, I’ll buy it online, visit outlet stores, or head into the city.

I’m 55 and I’ve built up a pretty big wardrobe over the years. I enjoy putting together outfits with old and new clothes, and I tend to buy what I need rather than what I simply fancy.

I’m 64 & I like Uniqlo, John Lewis, nobody’s child, Mango, Seasalt, White Stuff, M&S, Boden, Lucy & Yak, Masai, Zara, Gap, New Look.

I’m 61 and apart from Uniqlo and tkmaxx i shop exclusively at charity shops or on Vinted. I prefer natural fabric and not polyester. Uniqlo is fantastic for basics that are well thought out . Most of my wool is secondhand because I simply can’t afford new wool these days . Footwear i get wherever the price is the best . Underwear usually supermarket or M&S .

I might need from the supermarkets or M&S. Being older I have a full wardrobe of classic peices so don’t really need anything new.

I like H & M their premium range, Arket , Cos , whistles . Jigsaw and All saints. Occasionally the white company. I used to like white stuff but feel their clothes art frumpier than they used to be or my tastes have changed.

The first thirty years of my wardrobe shopping life was entirely predicated on knowledge gleaned from Vogue: where to find the best vintage / secondhand stores and what to look for; More Dash the Cash; where to buy the perfect black suit; how to mix High St and Sloane St in one outfit; the treasures to be found in the men’s department of M&S. The second thirty has been all about the FT How To Spend It (now HTSI) magazine and eager Saturday morning burrowing down rabbit holes. If Matches Fashion still existed in its original form my shopping would still be hugely influenced by the emerging designers they championed. Without them - and particularly since I ceased to need black suits - I’ve been on a more and more focused quest for craft driven design. (Sounds wank but it’s true.) I don’t overly care about me in the clothes - and most of my clothes could stand up by themselves anyway, I just want to discover everything that creative ambition can do with the maddest fabrics.

I’m also quite fond of the odd Zara purchase.

The last thing I bought (delivery today) was a pair of brightly coloured Wales Bonner shorts that I’m planning to wear to yoga.

I adored that book, it was inspiring. (Some might say I've never moved on )

I wish I could think of a modern equivalent.

Editing because you might have been thinking more about the Vogue column which I also loved. But there was something about the book that's stayed with me because it was so much more than a shopping guide, it had a real 'Be your own stylist' vibe. Not that anyone had heard of stylists then!

There was a book, wasn’t there? I probably own it! Was thinking more of the intermittent magazine supplements. I recall I used to actually run to the newsagents if I’d heard there would be a new edition.

I mainly wear jeans or shorts and tops. In winter I wear leggings and tunics a bit more.

Not a fan of Zara/Mango.

Yeah I bought the book again second hand a couple of years ago and re-read it in one sitting. What really struck me this time around was that (as far as I remember) there were no shops name checked other than generic vintage shops, sports shops and army and navy stores. If they did something similar now you can bet it would be sponsored by Burberry or whoever.
