Where do over 55's buy their clothes?

I'm 57, I don't keep up with the latest fashions, but like to look nice. I've been told I look late 40's, and love hair and makeup. I get my hair coloured etc and always where foundation.

I used to buy from Next but I don't know what their buyers are thinking, as the current range is awful!

I work for M&S but not sure what to get.

Where are you buying your clothes please and can you suggest any people to follow on Instagram.

I aspire to Toast but it's mostly too expensive so I don't have much.

I think you’re struggling because you don’t know what your style is. 55 year olds are not all walking around wearing the same things. I think M&S is a good all rounder ( although the quality has gone down hill ) but you need to think about your life style and what you realistically need rather than purely what catches your eye. There are various ways of identifying your style if you’re interested but it takes a bit of work. Once you understand it it’s much easier to shop.

The best advice has already been given on here. It doesn't matter if you're 55 and "look late 40s". It matters that you seem to have lost your way with clothes. I have an aunt who is 92 and always looks great; she loves clothes and fashion and it brings her joy. So whereas you may feel that your age is limiting, that's not the problem - you just need to find your style.
You can think about your budget, lifestyle and personal tasre and have a look at the new autumn collections in the shops now. Do a bit of trying on, see what suits.

Yes, and I think sometimes that goes hand in hand with a lack of confidence and feeling you want to disappear.

I'm 62 and shop mainly at Tk Maxx online as it's one of the few shops left in my nearest town. I tend to look for decent fabrics, so recent buys have included Poetry Cashmere, Levi jeans and an Aligne wool blazer. I do love a J Lewis Shop when I visit my parents and picked up some great Raspberry Cashmere in the summer sales. Plus a pretty cotton pointelle cardigan from Hush.
Melissa Murrell and Invest in Style are both worth following on Instagram.

Not brand loyal (and still only 54 so not quite the demographic) but for me, mostly Vinted and charity shops.

Zara, Stradivaris, Mango, H&M, M&S. Ive not bought a single thing from Next for years.

Go on tiktok and type in M&S womens clothing haul or similar and you will find loads of try ons coming up and you will get loads of inspiration. Lucky you working for them and having the staff discount! They've got loads of nice autumn and winter stuff in at the moment.

Jumble sales, like most oldies. That's as far as the state pension stretches.

I agree with a previous poster re tops not being long enough - I'm 5'9" and rarely find tops that fit in length and this was even b4 the more recent trend for cropped length tops/ cardies/ jumpers etc. If anyone has an suggestions for shops/ brands who's tops tend to be longer I'd be most grateful.
This summer I refreshed my wardrobe b4 a holiday and found lots of linen mix stuff in Sainsbury's Tu that I love - blouses/ cream shorts/ beige wide leg trousers.

Charity shops/Vinted/carboots/ebay...with a focus on Joules, Boden, White Stuff, Joanie, Sea Salt, Monsoon, M&S, John Lewis, Popsy, Hell Bunny.....no particular favourite but I like print and colour, perferably both at the same time!

I'm 51 and get clothes from TU, M&S, Uniqlo, Next, Desigual, Oliver Bonas, Nobody's Child, Joe Browns, Mint Velvet, Reiss, occasionally shops like Urban Outfitters, Superdry, River Island. Can't see this changing much in the next few years unless new players enter the market.

I am late fifties and thanks to a 5.5 stone weight loss, I have replaced my wardrobe (twice!) in the last 18 months. This is no hardship, as I adore clothes.

I look for decent fabrics and quality making. With my budget, that means second hand, mostly. Or sales. I spend money on knitwear and footwear.

M&S for jeans. Decent quality and the fit suits me.
Monsoon Twilight on Vinted for going out things. I have 2 beautiful British made silk maxi skirts from the 80’s.
Dilli Grey - block print dresses for everyday
Meadows - defunct but widely available on Vinted. Rather expensive, witty and unusual clothes.
Vintage Anokhi - delicate Indian block print, dresses and shirts
Kemi Telford - great skirts, have never made a dress work from her
Haruka - independent designer, affordable good quality Lycra and beautiful knitwear
The Woolgatherers Workshop - I buy everything they make, so beautiful is it.

Obviously my style might be wildly different from yours, but one thing that works for me is to look at things that you really like for shape, fabric, design without worrying about whether I could ever afford them. Then find similar elsewhere.

So, I lust after the red tutu skirt from Kindred of Ireland (I think this was @PhaedraTwo’s influence!) but can’t justify it on price or cost per wear basis, so I scratched the itch with the red silk maxi skirt mentioned above for a barely comprehensible £25! It’s not the same, but it makes me feel somewhat the same, I imagine. And I wear it in the same way.

64 - I shop where ever something takes my fancy, meets my criteria for quality, and I have an OK budget, but have found price is not necessarily an indicator of quality. I don't do age marketing or believe age dictates style, body shape and lifestyle is more relevant. Go play, visit shops, order online, try brands you've never considered previously and try on anything and everything and have fun. Some great suggestions on here, enjoy finding your style.

66, pear with a waist, 12 top 14/16 bottom but sizing is seriously weird just now.
Over the last couple of years my successes have been Next or Fatface for jeans and trousers, John Lewis own brand for dresses, and sales at Seasalt, Massai and similar for tops. Shoes and boots Adidas and Gabor. Regular look at TK Maxx.
Frustrated by changes in the shape of jeans, by the price of artificial fibre knit wear and by the move to online. Have gone back to making some of my tops and dresses.

Lovely clothes, good level of quirky but for me only their sale stuff.
