Where do over 55's buy their clothes?

I'm 57, I don't keep up with the latest fashions, but like to look nice. I've been told I look late 40's, and love hair and makeup. I get my hair coloured etc and always where foundation.

I used to buy from Next but I don't know what their buyers are thinking, as the current range is awful!

I work for M&S but not sure what to get.

Where are you buying your clothes please and can you suggest any people to follow on Instagram.

Im a bit baffled by your post. Do you think that past a certain age everyone suddenly changes where they shop? I shop in any shop I feel like where they are clothes that I want to buy. The security shutter doesn’t suddenly metaphorically descend in front of me because of how old I am 😂

WRT Next, I agree that their stores are not always filled with the best stuff, but their online offering is very varied and they have certainly nailed the online shopping experience. I don’t think physical stores are as good any more. If you work for M&S, don’t you get a discount? There is loads of choice there too and again online is best

Yep, all of these for me too (esp Reiss) . Plus Mint Velvet, Hobbs, Phase Eight, Karen Millen, even Oasis in the sales recently. Next (on line) has a huge range of brands these days, though I never shop in store.

I don’t think age matters - I just buy what appeals to me and suits me.

My local charity shops - I live in a v fancy area and these are packed to the gills with high quality designer brands. I have Agnes B, Joseph, Armani etc lots of occasion wear so try hard not to get too distracted with that. Shoes, boots, trainers, underwear and sportswear are the only things I buy new. I haven’t tried online / Vinted - I enjoy the instant gratification. Also some of the best buys are scarves, belts, bags, jewellery - it’s nice to have a collection of nice accessories to pull an oufit together.

I'd love to buy a few new things but can't seem to find anything in the shops as the colours are all horrible and tops are all short in the body.

I hate Internet shopping as you can't feel the quality and I hate the palaver of returning stuff.

Can't see me buying anything new this year.

I am late 40s and buy most things from Vinted. Once the algorithm knows you, you’ll never have to worry about where to buy clothes from again - it’s addictive!

Errr ... the same places that I bought them from when I was under 55!! And under 45 - maybe even a few of the same places as when I was under 35 & under 25?!! The shops/brands that still exist & haven't turned to shit, that is ...!!

OP, you already have a source of some pretty decent clothing at M&S. I used to buy a lot from the M&S Autograph range in my 30s, when it first launched & had people like Betty Jackson & Hussein Chalayan design capsule collections. It then became very staid for quite a while - but in the last few years it has been great for cashmere, silk, wool & cotton pieces that are excellent wardrobe staples. The bags, & occasional bits of jewellery, have also been good.

I think you have to be quite selective with the rest of the M&S clothing.

Well over 55. I wear a lot of vintage (1940s-70s) mixed in with more contemporary clothes. I assume you’re not interested in where I buy vintage (but happy to tell if you want) so I’ll stick to new, contemporary clothing bought over the last 18 months. It’s quite a short list:

Toast Reworn - their own 2nd hand site. (Prefer it to Vinted etc as you can return.)
Uniqlo, mostly their C and U ranges.
M&S
H&M
Sainsbury’s

I buy a lot second hand but that’s mostly vintage too. I’ve reluctantly turned to Vinted / Ebay / Etsy as so many local charity shops have sadly turned to shit.

I’m 58 and mainly wear the White Company and Boden, with a few Mint Velvet pieces. I’m looking at WNU for brushed cotton shirts but I’m hesitant because of the price and not having bought from them before.

So long as its not the Chums catalogue you're good. Also be adventurous and try things you'd never normally try like barrel jeans or a silky skirt. Im 64 and recently bought a silky feel slip new off ebay thinking it would look awful but it looked great.

I forgot to include YMC on my browsing list. I look often but not bought yet.

I assumed the age cut off was to do with the menopause rather than what’s age appropriate. Considering how many threads we have on how the menopause can play havoc with body, skin and hair, I think that’s reasonable.

If you work from M&S consider them first as you get staff discount. They have some gorgeous stuff for autumn this year.
