The “perfect coat” for the sidelines this autumn??

Every year I stand on the side of a pitch in the rain & wind watching DC do “sport” and shiver/get wet/overheat/feel bedraggled

There is always a stylish mum looking amazing - where is the perfect coat?
i need it to be well below knee length with a decent hood that comes well over my head (blooming Schoeffel and their stingy hoods!)

I have looked at Didriksens, Ilse Jacobsen and Rains - anywhere else to try? I’m thinking Nordic/Scandi brands might be best for this?

(please don’t suggest Seasalt - I’m tall and their long coats aren’t long enough)

Equestrian brands are really good (horsey dds and football ds here) but very ££££

I'd like to get one but feel as I've never gone wild swimming I don't qualify for one! What if I've got it in and other women ask me about where I swim? These are the thoughts that run through my head 😂

I wear waterproof insulated walking trousers pitch side so it allows me to not have to wear a really long coat! So maybe an alternative to consider?? And Within my usual waterproof coat i have invested in a heated filet to wear under it!!

Ilse Jacobsen are rubbish. Weird fit and totally not waterproof. Look lovely though and colours are amazing.

If it was for sideline comfort in any weather I'd go with the Lululemon Snow Warrior. I don't own one but am thinking of getting one this year.

I've not sure it's a smart look but you need layers, a waterproof padded jacket with large hood, warm socks and boots, warm gloves and a warm hat. Things like having good thick socks and thermal underwear can make a difference. The good thing about the Regatta ones is that you can usually just stick them in the washing machine and tumble dryer. May need to re waterproof them every now and then.

Why don’t you look at a dry robe type? I bought the Mountain Warehouse version and lived in it for the last 2 winters. It’s long, warm, waterproof and has a hood

I have an Ilse Jacobsen jacket @Mary28 and it is waterproof as it is made of a kind of plasticy material but it wouldn’t be warm at all and is not much longer than below knee length on me 5ft 4 inches.
It wouldn’t be my choice for watching a match on the sidelines.

Rather a bold statement. Mine fits absolutely perfectly and it's the second one I've bought. They are all different materials so you can't say they are not waterproof.
I have this one https://www.ilsejacobsen.com/products/rain37-3-4-raincoat-raincoat-army and it's very waterproof. It's slightly fitted which is why I like it. Their sizes are strange, I remember that. I'm normally a 10 and I had to buy the equivalent of a 12 or 14 I think.

@Sickoffamilydrama I like the look of your Delta Roam coat - but what is that clip for on the upper back? Does the hood roll down and away somehow?

No hood doesn't roll down, I prefer it that way as it offers good wind protection.

The loop on the back is a standard dry robe thing so they distort when being hung and to allow circulation of air around the inside.

Mountain warehouse do good coats. I have one for watching my daughter ride. Very warm and waterproof

I stumbled across this when looking for a dry robe.
It’s an equestrian coat/robe, I suppose for mucking out horses? so completely waterproof, fleece lined, fleece pockets but it’s slightly nipped at waist, so not as unflattering.
its also very long which for me is its only downside - at 5’3” it snags on the back of my ankles - but if you’re a bit taller and want properly long it should work.

i bought from this website because I know its a legitimate equestrian centre local to me. Go for normal/usual size.

I asked a very similar question a couple of years ago and lots of people here recommended Didriksons, so I got one of their Parkas. Huuuuge hood, warm and totally waterproof. Worth every penny.
