Boots to wear with M&S carrot jeans ?

As recommended on here I bought some M and S carrot leg jeans. They are great for me being 5ft 2 size 8. Can anyone recommend me some boots to go with them for the coming autumn / winter ? I always struggle with boots , hate anything pointy, have wide feet. Need to be flat.

I don't have a suggestion, sorry, but was also thinking of starting a general boot thread. Lots of posters talk about wearing outfits with trainers in summer/boots in winter and I would be curious as to what style! Also looking for wide toe box but not massively chunky everywhere else as I have skinny ankles and it looks ridiculous on me.

Me too! I was going to post to ask what to wear with ankle grazing jeans/cords in the winter to not freeze.

@Vintageroses can you describe the carrot jeans, would you recommend? I tried barrel leg jeans a few months ago and felt like a complete tit in them as they made my legs look like a cartoon cowboy.

Are they just what used to be called "mom jeans" rebranded?

Xiaoxiong · 18/08/2026 13:30

PS with mom jeans, I wear chelsea boots with a high shaft so they go under the hem of the jeans, so maybe those would work for carrot jeans too?

Vintageroses · 18/08/2026 13:55

The only barrel jeans I’ve tried were some hush ones and they just swamped me. The carrot jeans are said to have the barrel shape without the volume which I think is right. I got size 8 short and I think they look quite nice.
I’d like Chelsea boots with a wide toe box and not too chunky, if they even exist !
let me know if you’ve seen any nice ones. I usually prefer brown to black.

Currently being sorely tempted by these (they have lower shaft and also chunkier models but these are the sleekest with the highest shaft):

They're a D width fitting which google assures me is a wide fit, which is putting me off (I have narrow feet!)

They're not cheap, but they're made in the UK, and apparently you can send them back to the company and have them refurbished so they should last forever. https://lanxshoes.com/pages/re-lanx

They look good , I like the look of the reed ones too although they may still look pretty hefty on me.

I bought some brilliant Chelsea boots from Timberland Kids last winter. I'm sure they were reduced once the main sale had finished. https://www.timberland.com/en-gb/p/kids-10138/courma-kid-chelsea-boot-for-youth-in-dark-brown-TB0A25GK931

Edited to say I bought Junior not Youth. Junior go to up to about a UK6.

Boosting as selfishly I am the same size and height as you and also have these jeans and have no clue what winter shoes may go with them. I have black docs but the denim is too pale to look good with them in my opinion and my tan chelsea boots I think would have the flipped effect of when you stick on really casual shoes to take the bins out with your smart work trousers still on!

Alwayswonderedwhy · 18/08/2026 17:40

I'd probably go with classic DMs or Blunderstone.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 18/08/2026 19:06

I got some of these last year for a steal from their "seconds" page. There's a slight missed thread on the lacing round the edge but it took me ages to find it 🤣🤣 I'm looking forward to wearing them with my carrot jeans and slightly shorter leopard print "mom" jeans as well.

I think all of these are still too clumpy. Carrot /barrel jeans work with a much narrower shape which is why trainers look good. I tend to switch to high tops in leather or suede in the winter.

DoraDont · 18/08/2026 19:22

Blundstones, love mine.

minnowonthesay · 18/08/2026 19:29

I wear sock boots like @Namechangewegovyjune26- I find chunky boots look better with leggings on me.

BleedinglyObvious · 18/08/2026 19:46

High Waisted Carrot Leg Ankle Grazer Jeans by M&S. I haven't got any.

@Canonlythinkofthisone , I have several pairs of boots by that brand.
The outlet part of their site is great.

MyDriver · 18/08/2026 20:48

The model is wearing loafers. These are quite 'in' and the young women in my family wear those with dresses and jeans.

I tend to wear Chelsea style boots, flat with a chunky sole if possible.

Carpedimum · 18/08/2026 21:07

Part of the issue is the length of the jeans - a cropped length is edgier so suits a low profile high top trainer if a casual outfit or loafers for a slightly less casual look. Smart boots would need to be long enough to fill the gap and slim to the ankle/leg. A full ankle length jean or even floor grazing suits a cowboy style either low or high heel, they don’t need to be pointy but the shape of the boot does matter to the overall balance. I’d only go for a chunky boot style if the waist and top are close fitting, otherwise the look is heavy and potentially shapeless and unflattering.

Tardigrade001 · 18/08/2026 22:54

Desert boots?

OnlyUsername · 18/08/2026 23:10

I've got Dr Martens Woodard boots for winter with barrel and wide legs, but I like to look "clunky"!

I like these, but too expensive for me, sadly.
