Turning 50 - what can I do to make myself feel better

I’m fifty soon. Not been feeling great about it but have decided to use it as an excuse to do lots of beauty stuff. I’ve contacted someone to try Botox for the first time. Got some nice oil and cream to try and sort my hands and nails out. My hair is alright at the moment, I have a good hairdresser. Don’t know what else to do really, I’ve never really bothered. Get a make up consultation? I don’t wear it at the moment but maybe something basic? Would love any suggestions to get me to feel a bit better about being fifty years old (why does it feel so much older than 49?!)

@PenelopePritstop , I had 6ml done, it cost just over 500 pounds, and then the plan is I can just keep on top of it, with regular top ups, say every nine months or so, there is another type of injection she said I can have which prolongs it, but I need to email her and confirm what it is.

i was aware of pricing, of the different volumes, and asked her to just do what was required to achieve the effect I wished, she explained the process, which was to fill marionette and nasolabial you don’t just go into that area, you fill at the bottom of the cheek bones, normally you do the top. But I have high prominent cheek bones so she said although normally they lift there, it wouldn’t be good for me, so she went to at the bottom edge of them, this then lifted my face, smoothing the folds, and she then did the lines from my nose, as it was much less signifant at that point,

she then did under my lips, to smooth the marionette, then did those, then did a small amount under my chin, where I had a slight jowl, and then a little on my chin, which smoothed my jaw line and removed any sag,

she marked my face up with a chalk pen, before she started, and then as she did every section I looked in a mirror to check progress. She then spent ages tweaking to make sure everything was symmetrical.

that seems very expensive for 1ml. Like seriously expensive. I’m in Surrey, went to a small clinic , and prices for all of them are about 200 off for 1ml, then escalating for each one, the first being most expensive due to the fact it includes the work rather than ghe product.

@bittertwisted @BigSkies2022 @WigglywagglyWanda thanks, yes I’m pleased, my daughter and husband were all you don’t need that, it’s not bad, as said up thread I wear good make up, but as soon as they saw me they were like that looks really good.

and yes if you know me you’d probably think I look more smoother and lifted, but as no one sees the before and afters it’s hard to pin point, and I don’t think it’s like Botox, as my face moves naturally.

id recommend fillers to anyone, I see a lot of people with a face of two halves, a smooth forehead and naturally aged from the eyes down, but many of us need filler to balance it.

That is incredibly cheap! The first clinic I used was £600 for 1ml. (Harley st) I've since tried another clinic as an appt was so hard to get - booked months ahead - and now pay £350 for 1 ml. Both practitioners are qualified drs or dentists.
I've recently had Teoxane which is pricier anyway, regardless of the clinic. I only need it doing every year to 18 months.

Clothes! Find what you love and what suits you. I found that candy pinks, reds, and jewel/vibrant colours look 100 times better than grey, beige and black. Keep up with trends but not slavishly, and wear things that you love. Don’t keep your good things for best. Enjoy them now - wear your jewelry. It’s no use in a cupboard.

Another south London here. I would be very grateful for a DM Venus. My dentist does injectables of all kinds, but I have never discussed fillers with her- feels like an area where the more information the better!

I'm interested in her training etc. She's done a great job on you but I've never come across anyone who is a dr or dentist with aesthetic training charging £100 1ml syringe. The actual product is more than that - ie Teoxane. Surrey is Home Counties and prices are often similar-ish to London.

There are all sorts of qualifications. I'm not disputing yours at all but as the industry is unregulated anyone looking at finding a practitioner needs to do serious homework into exactly what training they have- I was shocked to read some do 1 DAY of training, given by someone else who has done 1 day of training.

There is someone near me who does that. My dentist who's done lots of training is horrified this is allowed to happen.

My other practitioner was a dual dentist/ surgeon and a medical doctor.

Can I ask, what weight dumbbells do you use? (Total beginner):

I have a few different sets of cast iron dumbbells, so you can vary the weight as you improve. I got them second hand. In her videos she lists the different sizes needed for that session. Start up costs can be expensive if you have to buy new, but then it is free forever! I only spent about £60 as I got lucky, and my husband already had some.

Think that you may be turning 60? Or 70?

I divorced at 50 and it has boosted my life (not financially!).
I think you have to have the basics right to look good: A healthy diet with minimal processed foods; little or zero alcohol; exercise (cardio; strength and flexibility mix) ; enough sleep. If you have those then everything else is so much easier. And I would say sleep and diet take priority.
