Turning 50 - what can I do to make myself feel better

I’m fifty soon. Not been feeling great about it but have decided to use it as an excuse to do lots of beauty stuff. I’ve contacted someone to try Botox for the first time. Got some nice oil and cream to try and sort my hands and nails out. My hair is alright at the moment, I have a good hairdresser. Don’t know what else to do really, I’ve never really bothered. Get a make up consultation? I don’t wear it at the moment but maybe something basic? Would love any suggestions to get me to feel a bit better about being fifty years old (why does it feel so much older than 49?!)

I’d be very surprised, not only has she not had tens of thousands spent on her face, clearly, her make up range is fantastic, there is no way thays settling on anyone’s lines,

What?!! She's very clearly had a hell of a lot of work done!! And has spoken about problems with her skin when younger.

At the end of a long hot day, it doesn't matter what make-up you wear or how it's been applied - there'll always be a degree of fading/smudging/settling, especially as you get older.

Though I am now leaning towards Trinny ...

On top of whatever skincare/makeup/fashion choices you make - try reformer Pilates 1:1 with a good trainer!

50+ here, at goal weight and feeling great.

Religiously look after my skin - Tret, Medik8, La Mer eye cream, facials

Pilates, yoga, weight training and running

I wear a bit, but not a lot of makeup. I don’t need it as I have the best skin of my life now. It’s flawless because of the Tret.

I eat healthily, buy good ingredients, use lots of olive oil and drink good red wine

I’m not really into fashion and clothes. I have some nice casual ones but I’m more interested in health and fitness, than expensive clothes and makeup.

I haven’t done Botox or fillers.

I always look after my feet by doing an annual Footner and I have a gel pedicure every 2-3 months. I use a Japanese manicure kit and do it myself.

Be good to yourself, turn your nurturing skills on you.

50 seems daunting but I am happier and healthier than ever before. I walk with confidence and I don’t care what anyone thinks of me except my DH, my DC and my dog. 50’s means no longer caring what people think. It’s liberating.

I got my colours done when I was in my early 50s. It was fantastic. I discovered that I suited different colours than I'd been wearing most of my life so now my wardrobe works well together and flatters my skin tone.
It was also a really good excuse to buy new clothes 😁

I don’t think she looks remarkably different no, she’s no Madonna . I think she’s had Botox and fillers, but I don’t think she’s had facial surgery. I could be wrong, but I simply don’t see it. If she has it’s very good work. And I don’t think as she had bad skin when young means she’s lifelong going to have it.

and no you’re absolutely wrong on the make up. I’ve good skin, I’m 57, I use Victoria Beckham the drops and there is no fading, smudging or settling. There genuinely isn’t.

try it.

A walking pad and working out on a vibro plate with light weights, five days a week.
Giving up alcohol, cutting down on sugar and upping fruit, veg and protein
Nightly prescription tret.
A walk at first light.
Magnesium and zinc before bed time for better sleep.

@birdsintrees In terms of skincare- spf 50 every day- 365 days a year.
Consider retinol at night. I've started om Medik8 and it's really good.

Some one up thread said polish your jewellery and I raised an eybrow, but they are completely correct

jewellary becomes dirty as it ages, and we have all seen images of people wearing rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces that look old. Even though they are gold or silver,

just give them a clean, I bought one of those sonic cleaners from Amazon, cost about 15 quid, and my jewellery all looks like new.

I've only read @birdsintrees' responses.

Take a crapload of photos. When you're 60 or, as I am, 70, you'll look back and think how hot you were.

echt · Today 10:37

In the meantime, exercise, wear sun screen every day, hat and sunnies, moisturise everything.

What red light therapy did you get?

Great list
