Is H&M now stopping customers ordering two sizes to compare?

Has anyone tried to order more than 1 size from H&M recently? I want a pair of trousers, but the measurements make me either 12 or 14. I tried to add both to the bag, but after giving me a message about the environmental cost of returns, it keeps chucking out the other pair! Wtf?

I’m impressed you only need to get 2 sizes to see what fits! I’ve given up ordering anything from them as found the sizing totally random.

They must get a lot of returns, so if they have stopped then maybe that’s why.

Women’s retailers really need to be asking themselves why there’s such a problem with returns then don’t they.
Why do women have so much trouble knowing which size to order when men don’t?
Even leg lengths - i ordered a regular length recently from Next after checking the size guide which said regular was 29” inside leg (which is what I measure as). The trousers were easily 3” too long.
My DH is the same size everywhere- always the same waist and leg measurement. Sometimes a M or L in tops but once he figures out which from a particular store it’s consistent

Glad there’s a button to keep both.

I would say retailers can’t have shit stores where not everything is stocked; encourage you to shop online and then get funny about size checks. Or close down stores and leave our high streets dead.

Well they can. They can do what they want. But they are shit and making us all poorer.

According to their sizing, I'm a 12 waist and 14 hip. Just. It drives me mad.
I have the added complication of being tall- but at 5'9, only just tall.

And yes, dh helpfully suggested trying on in store. Except, the physical shop has hardly anything in!

H&M sizing has always been very erratic. Maybe they should that out first.

One good thing about ordering loads online is that one website has got the measure of me. Literally.

Based on previous purchases and presumably returns, it has started recommending a size (anything between an 18 and 22!) and it's spot on. I'm equally chuffed and ashamed 😀

Yeah, i ordered 5 pairs of jeans about a year ago. Two were same size but different colours. Sizes were worlds apart.

Once upon a time, in the early 2000s, hm fits were great. I still wear a pair of trousers from way back when. And the shirts had sleeves that fit.

I'm anything between 10 and 16. It's ridiculous. And shoes. Am I 7, 7.5,8? I don't know anymore!!!!

I've given up ordering shoes online. The sizes are all over the place

i’d guess it must be costing them ridiculous money to deal with returns so it’s a smart move but yes, crap!!

I try and go by the EU sizing on shoes. 7 can be a 40 or a 41 depending on brands (or even within the same brand sometimes!) I tend to need a 41 which can also be an 8. Nightmare!

And I'm different sizes in flats, sandals and heels😆

In my vision of shopping, there are huge warehouses - a bit like Argos - where there is a ‘shop’ front with staff and lovely changing rooms and they have maybe 8-10 different shops in the back. At home, you order everything you want to try on then go and wait in a changing room whilst they bring it all to you.

If you need different sizes they go and get it from the back and anything you don’t want you give straight back. They only charge for things you keep.

Solves the financial, environmental and sheer fucking faff cost of deliveries and returns and you get the benefit of ordering and browsing a large online range AND the benefit of coming home with stuff you know fits!

It's one of the reasons I've stopped ordering from H&M, apart from the poor quality. I used to order most of my basics from there & my boys clothes.

 I have to say in contrast the Zara sizing guide is brilliant. Once signed up it recommends the right size for me each time. Also there's a section which recommends certain items in a capsule wardrobe just for me. It's bang on. I'm apparently anything from a small to a large. I've now switched to Zara for all my basics

I read the returns terms on ASOS recently and decided not to bother ordering. Unless I misunderstood, if I buy, try on, and return one item that’s a 100% return rate and they flag it or at least frown on it so you might have issues ordering in future?

I despair of the faff that shopping has become. There’s minimal choice in store, unless you go online and I don’t have the time or spare money to order and return multiple items.

I got this from asos the other year. I must order once or twice a year from them, but suddenly I was flagged as a frequent returner. And we all know asos don't even measure their clothes- just fire a label confetti gun and see what lands.

I think this is why the phrase 'cheeky fuckers' was created.

We have H&M in Australia but they've never offered this? I don't know any stores that do unless you pay for both then return one is that what you mean?

I think you can scroll and get the two sizes, or more, as long as they are in stock. It's very cheeky because it's like they think we are deliberately wasting everyone's time including our own in ordering multiple sizes.

I've been getting AI help with online shopping and even it's getting frustrated. Was looking at a few things on the Woolovers website and one had the garment length and one didn't. ChatGPT is just as lost as I am as to where the garment will hit on me because in the photos, different colours look different lengths, presumably based on the height of the model. Just a fraction more information would reduce my uncertainty - garment lengths, rise and (accurate) trouser length being key. The amount of places that just say 'oh here are some trousers' with no idea of how long they are.

I don't get why the effort isn't bought forward in the process so more attention paid to product descriptions and good, clear photos. It's so odd.

Yeah, i usually have to order two of each size in trousers, then pay, then send back what doesn't fit.

It's annoying enough when you have to pay for returns because their sizing is unreliable, but this appears to want me to pay separate delivery too. More annoying when you've already scoured the Internet and checked their sizing, but still don't know.

Don't get me started on 'ankle length'.

Dd is 6 inches shorter than me. Ankle length on her is capri pants on me!
