Are expensive hairdryers worth it?

I’ve always used standard, cheap ones. Is it worth paying hundreds for a Dyson or similar? Do they really make any difference?

I have both, a £20 one and a £180 one, the £180 is a bit more powerful and dries my hair probably 3-5 minutes faster but it gets significantly hotter which makes me paranoid about using it.

I love my shark one, drys my hair so much faster and requires a lot less straightening. I remember how much I love it every time I try and dry my hair at the gym.

so is it they are just more powerful or do they improve appearance of hair?

What do you need it to do?

I have vvv thick hair, so I got a high wattage one. Revlon I think. It might burn some peoples heads!

The nozzel attachment is what makes the air come through more powerfully so could lool for a dryer with a narrow slit on the nozzel.

The best thing I bought for my hair was a hairdryer stand on amazon, so it clips to that and I just stand under it and dry my hair in 5-10 mins just standing there, while I have a turbo floor fan cooling the rest of my body.

I also bought the widest plated straighteners (Babyliss) I could find.
Defo quicker than what I had.

So its least effort fastest result.

I’ve got fine hair but a lot of it. Hair can look a bit flat and fly away. I was hoping it might make hair sleeker and shiny. Am I expecting too much

I have a Dyson, yes, it’s worth it, it smooths the hair, cools down when it approaches my scalp etc but it works differently to a normal hairdryer, it uses air to dry the hair where as others use heat.

I've got the Cloud 9 Airshot Pro with the volumisers and would replace it immediately if it broke. My frizzy fine hair is now all swooshy and full of lovely bouncy loose curls. It looks like I've had a salon blow dry every day.

I particularly like that all the attachments fasten on with magnets. I love clunking one off and the other curl direction attachment just snapping on.

Really don’t bother with hair dryer days like this it’s dry in 10 minutes. Probably different if I styled it but I don’t

I've got a Dyson and it's dramatically improved the condition of my wiry grey hair. I'm really pleased with it.

The Dyson sounds like it might be good for me. My post menopause hair can get a bit frizzy, especially in this humidity and in the rain.

Shark with the sleek fly away attachment excellent.

I didn't think my Dyson made a noticeable.differemce until my hairdresser commented on the condition of my hair saying it was really good so actually l think it does make a difference.

I have the Dyson Supersonic with the concentrator nozzle, flyaway attachment and some other wavy thing I don't understand. I have collar length, fine and curly but very dense, heavy and pouffy hair.

It's good but it does shift a lot of air very fast, and I've found it makes the ends knotty even when I'm blow drying it smooth with a radial brush on the slowest setting! I can't add more product as it tends to weigh my hair down, and bizarrely, the smoothing attachment is SO effective it also turns my puffy hair into flat, lank locks.

I daren't switch back to a cheap one, my DH bought it very lovingly as a super expensive gift I hadn't asked for...

I want a hair dryer stand! Where can I get one?

We have similar hair and I love my Dyson. I didn't buy it with "real money" though. It was 3/4 years of Boots points. It's great, but not THAT great if you see what I mean.

Thick, straight hair, mid length (bottom of shoulder blades) which used to take 17 mins now takes 7 with the Dyson. More importantly it's not getting burned and the ends don't frizz. I don't think it's worth it for short hair though, it's a big outlay.

I have a Parlux for my hair (fine but thick) and it’s brilliant - it really does dry it faster and with less frizz overall. It’s also serviceable which I like because I get attached to things and don’t like throwing them away. Mine’s a Parlux Advance Light Ionic and it’s seven years old and still fantastic.

I have thick unruly hair and have a Dyson. I would replace it tomorrow if it broke.

Someone on here recommended me a Diva a few years ago and I’ve been very happy with that.

How long is your hair? I've fine hair, but enough for 4 people. I've found a heated drying brush best, I'm using the Revlon one at the moment and it's just fab. My hair is only shoulder length though.

The GHD one is brilliant and I’ve also got lots of fine hair. It’s so quick and makes it easy to get volume and shine. Got mine from Vinted to see if it’s worth it and it is.

I've got similar hair to you OP. Tried a Dyson on holiday and it made no difference at all to my hair.
