Are expensive hairdryers worth it?

I’ve always used standard, cheap ones. Is it worth paying hundreds for a Dyson or similar? Do they really make any difference?

I used my friend’s ghd hairdryer on holiday and it was fabulous (don’t think they’re the price of Dyson)

I’ve used a Dyson and a ghd at different sisters in laws’ houses I thought the ghd was better. I’ve got an old Remington one which gets too hot

Love my Dyson - sooo quick to dry my hair, also the cool setting has been fab in this weather

I have the shark, I think it’s called flex style? I have really thick curly hair. I wouldn’t recommend it as a hairdryer as it lacks power and takes forever to dry my hair. My gym has the GHD Helios hairdryers and I much prefer them.

I paid around £25 for a shark look alike one from amazon and have been really pleased with it. Really smoothes my frizzy hair and dries really quickly.

I splashed out on a Parlux as my hairdresser uses/recommended it, it’s fabulous although a bit heavier to hold but had it six years now and would buy another one straight away, think it has a ten year guarantee. Used my sisters Dyson on holiday and hated it, made my hair really frizzy.

I used a Dyson for the first time at a hotel yesterday, it's the only hair dryer that has ever made my very straight hair feel frizzy and not smooth and sleek. I'll stick with the cheap ones.

Due to a series of very fortunate gifts I have a Shark hairdryer and GHD Platinum + straighteners, my hair is completely different, and so much better!

You need products not a new hairdryer imo.

I second this! The minute my first GHD hairdryer gave up the ghost, I ran out and replaced it with same immediately. Fast drying, gives volume, straightens hair. I love it.

I have a newish Parlux and a cheap as chips hair dryer that’s around twenty years old. No noticeable difference in drying and the Parlux drives me mad as the button placement is just where I hold the dryer, so it keeps turning off. Also the balance is better on the cheap one, the Parlux makes my arm ache.

I tried a Dyson hairdryer when I was staying in a posh hotel and to be honest i didn't get on with it, my revolution one seemed to dry my hair quicker.

I've had several over the years varying in price. I liked the GHD but didn't love it, then I had an ETI dryer that was recommended by my hairdresser. It was really good but quite heavy. My current one is a Babyliss which DH bought me a few years ago and which I used as a travel dryer. It is great, dries my hair really quickly and is lightweight. I usually rough dry my hair and then straighten with my trusty GHDs. I've looked at the Dyson and similar, but I just can't justify the price.

Same here. I have fine hair and this has helped it massively.

I am interested in people who bought the expensive hairdryers that claim to be healthier e.g. ion technology etc.

I leave my hair to air dry recently but am planning ahead for winter.

Is there a cheaper alternative to the Dyson? I want one that dries with air power and not heat, my hair is bleached and heat just makes the condition worse.

Parlux driers are fantastic.

I was given a Parlux for Christmas about 10 years ago.

It’s still going, although the switch that controls the speed didn’t switch on for the ‘lower’ speed so I have to dry on the higher speed. I’m sure I could get it fixed if I felt that strongly about it.

I’ve had 2 Dysons and both have broke on me.
One I sent back and the other, I put out for recycling ♻️
I didn’t think they were worth the £100’s I paid for them.

I wasnt convinced as i already had a ghd hairdryer, and surely they're all the same?
I got a Shark flex styler for Christmas, and I haven't touched my ghd hairdryer or straighteners since.
If I just want to blast it dry, it takes less than a minute. If I want to use a nozzle to brush dry straight/ diffuser to curl, it's a couple of minutes. If I want to use the hot air brush, it's a couple of minutes/ 5 minutes. You use it on one setting while wet, then switch a button to dry styling and it changes from being just air to air and ceramic heat.
The straighteners have my hair smooth in a few minutes too.

The only thing I haven't got my head around is the air wrap things, but I'm not bothered enough to keep trying.

Shamelessly jumping on to ask for any recommendations for thick, wavy very frizz prone hair that usually takes absolutely ages to dry?
