Recommendations for an affordable wig after a disappointing haircut

I’ve had a terrible haircut. The hairdresser is new to me and clearly made an error. These things happen. I said I would sleep on it but after a wash it looks terrible.

Salon manager is very apologetic and has refunded me in full but I have this hideous cut to grow out. I think I need a wig.

Any recommendations of a cheap ish one that will see me through a few months?

I’m a grown woman - I know that it won’t be exactly like the reference picture but it’s honestly nothing like it. I’ve had a little cry, DH has sent me the pic from Fleabag and we’ve had a laugh but I’m so disappointed that I’m going to look shit for a few months now.

I think you are being over critical because it's not what you wanted (I understand this). But to neutral observers your hair looks perfectly lovely with no need to hide it with a wig. I think you just need to give it a week or so to get more used to it.

I'm a pretty straightforward person and not known to beat around the bush if asked for my opinion and honestly @Merryoldgoat it's nowhere near awful just not what you thought it would be. Give it a few days, get used to the length and styling it and I think you will feel much better about it, it's not the disaster you think it is right now.

Agree with PPs, if you go back or somewhere else just explain that you want a bit of the bulkiness taken out. They will snip a bit away so it sits a bit better around your jaw. But discuss ways to style it first.

I had a truly terribly haircut in the early 2000s. I took in a photo of Cynthia Nixon with a bob as her hair was very much like mine with a bit of wave in it. I had short styles often. The hairdressers seemed to be cutting some very short layers in, then dried it, then started to iron it flat. Then added a few random twirls with a curling iron. I paid and found out that I couldn't even use the discount voucher from Cosmopolitan which was the only reason I went there. For anyone wo knows Birmingham, I rushed to Rackhams a couple of doors down and held back tears all the way up those six escalators until I got to the loos at the top and cried.

I had to use kirby grips to hold down the two inche long layers on top of my head for weeks.

@blarn that sounds dreadful - it’s so shit when you put your trust in them and it goes so wrong.

I have added in a bit of texture but the shape is genuinely terrible. No layers at all. I will sit on it for a bit and get it fixed in a few weeks.

I acknowledge I have nice hair itself - it’s shiny and in good condition and photographs well. It’s just not what I wanted and I feel really uncomfortable with it.

It looks like you have some layers at the back , I think it looks much better when you have added some texture in, if you wear it curly it is too short for that at the moment

@Merryoldgoat - I'm not just saying this to make you feel better because I would have ignored the posts otherwise but the first photo you posted at 09.42 yesterday looks really really lovely to me. Very stylish and rather chic. Now easy for me to say because you've said it wasn't what you had in mind , but seriously I reckon your idea of a disastrous hair cut is different to mine.
Do your styling magic whilst it grows out & I'll bet people compliment you.

I went for a curly vibe today and it’s not as good as straighter with texture but it’s not hideous.

I am going to give it a couple of months before finding a new hairdresser so I have a bit more length.
