Recommendations for an affordable wig after a disappointing haircut

I’ve had a terrible haircut. The hairdresser is new to me and clearly made an error. These things happen. I said I would sleep on it but after a wash it looks terrible.

Salon manager is very apologetic and has refunded me in full but I have this hideous cut to grow out. I think I need a wig.

Any recommendations of a cheap ish one that will see me through a few months?

I’m a grown woman - I know that it won’t be exactly like the reference picture but it’s honestly nothing like it. I’ve had a little cry, DH has sent me the pic from Fleabag and we’ve had a laugh but I’m so disappointed that I’m going to look shit for a few months now.

However, yours really does not look bad at all. Lots of people would love to have your hair. No wig needed!

You certainly don't need a wig, that's ridiculous. Just tie it back til it grows a bit.

I think a wig will be more noticeable than the haircut - it will soon grow and the shape will begin to change. I think I would just style it out until it grows - it won’t take long.

I would look at a few salons near to me and then call a a few seeing if you could book a consultation with a senior stylist to teach you to style your current cut. If you have one near you, I’ve always liked Toni and Guy but any decent salon will be willing to help.

Keeping it curly / poufy will make it less noticeable .

I tried loads of wigs when I had cancer but found Shein did the best ones and they were way cheaper than many of the others I tried. Got more compliments with my cheap Shein ones which cost a tenner than some of the others that were vastly more (or would have been if the NHS hadn't covered the cost of them)

I can style my hair properly - I’ve had a whole array of styles in my life that I’ve done lots with. The issue is it’s been cut badly and too short.

The salon manager didn’t even attempt to tell me it was ok. She just apologised profusely and offered to try to fix it as well as refund me. That tells me very clearly they know it’s botched.

I need to either leave it and accept it’s shit for a bit or get it re-cut but that will mean a more radical cut which I’m not keen on.

OP, you are being ridiculous. Seriously. And I say this as someone who lost all their hair during chemotherapy, so not only did I have no hair for 6 months, I had shit hair for almost 18 months following treatment. At no point did I wear a wig. If I can get through this, you can give your hair a few weeks for it to recover from the shock of being cut!!!

I don’t actually think yours looks awful but I appreciate it wasn’t what you wanted. Could you do some half up / half down / all up / pony tail with hair piece playing around? Some little plaits or twists at the side to change the shape. I’m growing out my very short hair and it’s now at mushroom length ( not helped by humidity ) and I’ve bought nothing away with me like an idiot. Another one here who thinks the cut looks okay. I think if it was longish then having a lot cut off might be a shock? Could you get your usual stylist to take a look?

This is no help/comfort but my grandad used to say that there was only a fortnight between a bad hair cut and a good one.

I’m very confused, is the dark hair yours? Did ai change the hair cut? It looks lovely.

Your hair looks nice but if you straighten it it will add a lot more length. Rather than a wig I would be finding a decent hairdresser to tidy it up.

In my experience a good hairdresser would have talked you out of the pic as looking at your lovely curls that would be hours of styling regularly.

Because he didn’t give me the blond cut - it’s a good 2 inches shorter.

It’s not hours of styling. I’m nearly 50 and have had cuts like the inspiration pic many times.

My hair is very curly but very fine and soft - it straightens extremely easily and I used to go from wet to the inspiration pic in about 30 mins. It would hold for 2/3 days with a minor bit of smoothing in places with a straightener.

No. It’s the exact hair but it’s changed my face bit made me more attractive and the cut admittedly looks great on whoever she is. If I looked like that I’d be fine.

Can you go back to the stylist who gave you the haircut you used yo love? Hopefully they can fix it up for you but as others have said it does look nice as it is.

It was like the cut got away from him if that makes sense? He clearly took too much off and there’s no fixing that.

Another one thinking it looks nice but I'm the queen of getting bad hair cuts so totally understand that it doesn't feel right for you and not what you asked for. I've got similar length hair at the moment, maybe experiment with a couple of different styles to see if any feel more comfortable..I'm a fan of half up at the moment. Straightening it and then putting a little wave back in might also give you a little bit more length. Hopefully in a few days it'll have settled in a bit too.

Look, you don’t have to be agressive about it. It’s a suggestion to book with a better stylist to help you mange the current cut. Or cut it better.

But, by all means, moan and ask for wig suggestions 🙄
