Holy Grail lip care/balm

I am a chronic lip licker and my go to for several years has been Nuxe Rive de Miel (or however it’s spelled) It kept my lips hydrated and I rarely had flare ups or chapped lips.
The last few months, my lips have been terrible! It’s probably hormonal, I’m peri menopausal and on HRT.
My lips are so, so sore. The Nuxe isn’t cutting it.
I’ve got some aquaphor at the moment which is barely helping.
Please can I have some recommendations!
Vaseline/Carmex/Burts are all out.

Any high end recs welcome - I’d pay anything for relief!

Sadly, I don’t like how it feels on my lips.

Elizabeth Arden balm and the lanolin nipple cream in the purple tube are my go to for sore lips.

TheYorkshirePudding · 13/07/2026 21:10

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (it’s an orange coloured Vaseline) and it’s ace. Chapped lips? Put it on over night and your lips are fabulous in the morning!

twirlypoo · 13/07/2026 21:10

Was coming here to say nipple cream - nothing else is as good!

AncientBallerina · 13/07/2026 21:12

Honestly Vaseline

CuriousKangaroo · 13/07/2026 21:14

I have tried everything listed on here so far and possibly everything you can imagine. But nothing beats Lansinoh nipple cream!

Lararoft · 13/07/2026 21:14

I find Lanolips to be the best

GellerYeller · 13/07/2026 21:16

One of my DC had horrendously chapped lips due to licking. The pharmacist recommended Blistex Medicated relief cream (in a white metal tube with a red cap). It did work but you need to smear it liberally on your lips and outside your lip line, we found.
Smearing Vaseline or 8 hour cream over it at night should seal it in.
I like Carmex as it has acids in it that exfoliate but I know some don’t. I get the fruity ones.

Honestly Vaseline

I really don’t get on well with Vaseline, does absolutely nothing for me.

I think I had some when I was breastfeeding, could be worth a try.

I also had Kamillosan when I was BFing, never really had sore nips but that stuff was like magic on my eczema and nappy rash! Sadly, it was discontinued.

I know no Vaseline but Vaseline Intensive Care in the tube is the only thing that works for me.

efeslight · 13/07/2026 21:29

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is wonderful

Popstarrrrr · 13/07/2026 21:33

Any chance you can revisit using Carmex? It's the only thing I've found that works. Heals when they are sore and properly prevents dryness.

minipie · 13/07/2026 21:33

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream
Burts Night (in a pot not a stick)
Blistex intensive moisturising.
Also Blisteze in the tiny metal tube
Eucerin Aquaphor

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/07/2026 21:41

Lanolips 101 - I have the driest lips in the world TM and this is the best

Clinique superbalm was similarly good but a bit thicker - but it's about 5x the price and you can't buy it in the UK now

101 is a gloopy ointment like texture, when my lips are under control I use O'keefes chap stick for during the day - it's the best of the solid chapsticks.

O'keefes overnight lip balm is quite good also, but not a patch on 101

(I am allergic to Eliz Arden / eczema)

JaneIves · 14/07/2026 11:07

Thanks all so far, hopeful bump for the daytime crowd.

Aquaphor was my number one when I was on roaccutane. I tried everything and it came up on top - I also found it significantly better than lanolin/lansinoh which I know lots of people recommend

Megjobethamy · 14/07/2026 12:19

Cicaplast by La Roche Posay is excellent and used in Nursing Homes. Also Laneige, especially the sleeping mask

ActuallyComfortable · 14/07/2026 12:23

I react to everything - lip balm helps for a few weeks or months then needs applying more and more frequently and finally I realise it's actually makes my lips worse. Apparently there are additives in almost every lip balm which can do this (I did a lot of reading on it a few years ago but have forgotten the details as I found a solution).

I have been using plain 100% shea butter for several years - a revelation, and it's cheap. No reaction, and it works. Takes a few days to get used to but now I think everything else was a total con.

whirlyhead · 14/07/2026 12:23

I swear by elizabeth arden 8 hour cream. It's the only product I consistently buy and I put it on my lips every night. I made the mistake of buying some Laneige overnight balm and it's terrible compared to my elizabeth arden! I've tried lanolips and vaseline and EA still wins.

BettyBettyBoop · 14/07/2026 12:24

Dr Lipp is great!

Apileofballyhoo · 14/07/2026 12:24

Perhaps Balmonds Skin Salvation ointment. It's like pale green vaseline but it's not petrochemical. Omega 3 supplements and drink more water. Avoid using anything harsh on your face.

RachelshouldhavegonetoParis · 14/07/2026 12:24

Augustinus Bader - it’s £££ but the best one I’ve ever used
