Holy Grail lip care/balm

I am a chronic lip licker and my go to for several years has been Nuxe Rive de Miel (or however it’s spelled) It kept my lips hydrated and I rarely had flare ups or chapped lips.
The last few months, my lips have been terrible! It’s probably hormonal, I’m peri menopausal and on HRT.
My lips are so, so sore. The Nuxe isn’t cutting it.
I’ve got some aquaphor at the moment which is barely helping.
Please can I have some recommendations!
Vaseline/Carmex/Burts are all out.

Any high end recs welcome - I’d pay anything for relief!

I also have eczema and allergic to Methylisothiazolinone and the only thing l have found works for me is Eucerin intensive lip balm which you can pick up in boots, l also used to use the Nuxe one but found it wasn’t cutting it. You might also want to consider if your toothpaste is making it worse? Most toothpastes contain SLS which is not good for sensitive skin, some types of sensodyne are SLS free and l find are good when l’m having a flare up.

Went out and bought the La Roche Posay this afternoon, definitely feeling some relief so thanks for the recommendations! Also bought some Lansinoh as a back up and have found that I can buy Kamillosan from online pharmacies too.

Having allergies/sensitive skin totally sucks at times.
I used to suffer hay fever terribly, thankfully I grew out of it (in my 30s when I was pregnant!) but I wonder if the warm weather has contributed?
I’m loving our proper summer though, despite being an eternal sweaty mess with sore lips!

I solely use the dark blue Nivea.
Just to say, layer it on thick before bed. I find it soaks in well over night and helps massively.

Lanolin is brilliant

i had the exact same problem last year, nothing worked. I decided to go to my Drs as I was so fed up, they were sore and literally fraying. She examined them through a special device and told me I had Solar Keratosis, this is caused by the sun, I’ve always worn sun cream but not on my lips. I’d used a normal lip balm, mostly Burts Bees.

The treatment I had was for 4 weeks, applied at bedtime, not pleasant but it’s worked, back to normal now. Make an appointment for piece of mind, I’m glad I did, my husband said I was daft going with fraying lips, you just know when something isn’t right 🤗

Nipple balm!! I’ve tried every expensive lip balm out there - good old lanolin is by far the best and most cost effective. A 10ml tube of Lansinoh has lasted me an entire year. I find that other lip balms leave my lips craving moisture and it becomes a vicious cycle. La Neige in particular took weeks to recover from - awful stuff, my lips were absolutely wrecked and so dry without constant reapplication.

Horrible stuff. Contains exfoliating acids that absolutely wrecked my lips. They’ve never been so cracked and dry in my life than in the few weeks I used it!

Is it possible you've tried so many different things over the last x amount of time that the best bet would be to do nothing for a few days and then try again? Just a thought.
Im another that thinks Carmex is brilliant. It sorts mine out in a way that vaseline doesnt. Weirdly..... it can be addictive (I didnt believe it either but theres an article online somewhere) so best used in moderation.

I like the overnight o’keeffe’s and the cheap Hyluronic acid ones from Temu!

Avenue cold cream lip balm. I have been using it 25 years.

Glossier Balm dotcom. The name is stupid but the product is great. Burts Bees did nothing for me, ditto Vaseline, but somehow the combination of ingredients in this is exactly what my lips need.

Oh this is interesting, thank you. I wouldn’t think to seek out an SPF lip balm, which seems so silly thinking about it! Lips have definitely worsened with the current high temps.

Another vote for Lansinoh!! If you don’t like the feel of it, just use it overnight. I’ve done this in the past with chronically chapped lips - it’s wonderful stuff and cheap so worth a try!

It was a cream applied before bed, a type of chemo treatment as the cells could have been pre cancerous. My lips would bleed slightly and a little scabby, but a small price to pay. I’ve found my holy grail spf lip balm, Calypso, it’s lovely and hydrating when I’m out and about, when I’m indoors I tend to wear anything and my lips are fine again.

I wish the adverts for sun creams would alert the public to the fact that your lips need as much protection as your skin, it’s so important. Definitely make an appointment for peace of mind, what I had is also called actinic cheilitis, everything is healed now, thank gawd 🤗

Yep completely awful, I feel like I look like I've smoked 5 packs a day my entire life because it's made my lips look "old" and I'm only 31! I've also somehow lost most of the pigmentation in them because of the all the reactions, so I'm now having to use tinted lip balm during the day and slather on the aquaphor at night just so I don't look like a corpse. Every dermatologist/GP I've seen has just said it's eczema, even though I know it's not!

As someone who has worn lip balm for 30 years and who applies it every 30 minutes I can highly recommend Aquaphor or Blistex Balsam intensive care treatment (white tube). Nothing else works for me and Nuxe is very low down on my list 😂

Hope the products you have now bought work for you OP but just to add another vote for the Blistex relief cream - this is the only thing that works for me!

Completely agree. I’ve been a lifelong lip balm addict and tried most mentioned on here, but have only used Aloe lips for the past 1 years - it’s amazing!

The orange one on Amazon, it's really cheap and the best ever! I think it's called OKeefes? So cheap and when my lips are feeling tight/dry/cracked it literally reverses it in one day
